WO-S Names Offensive and Defensive Coordinators
WOSgrad replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads

Coach Thompson wasted little time in naming his coordinators. The new defensive coordinator is a familiar face in Orange County, Coach Mike Pierce. Welcome back, Coach Pierce! The offensive coordinator is also a familiar name, Coach Stan Hodges, who is a former head coach as Kountze who most recently coached at Deer Park. Welcome to the family, Coach Hodges!
This summer Evadale is playing summer league baseball and a couple of young men searched the internet for the most unusual mascot they could come up with...well I think they found it! If you google Banana Slugs you will find that it is the mascot of the University of California Santa Monica. They are a D3 NCAA progam and they are known as the "Banana Slugs". The Banana Slugs "Evadale Style" will be made up of underclassmen from Evadale. The Rebels had 8 seniors on this years team and six of them were starters so the underclassmen will be able to get in plenty of work in the summer league to prepare to step in and perform in 2012. The Banana Slugs schedule is June 2 vs. Vidor 5:30 PM June 7 @ Hampshire-Fannett (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM June 21 vs. LCM #2 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM June 28 vs. LCM #1 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM July 5 vs. Orangefield (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM July 12 vs. LCM #2 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM July 19 vs. Warren (DH) 6 & 8 PM July 26 @ Vidor (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM Good luck to the Banana Slugs and I am sure that the shirts will quickly become collectors items so be sure to order yours early!
Thanks for the info, RY and good luck to the Banana Slugs, whatever the heck that is. LOL!
He has Dale, Jr. to thank though.... No one who watches NASCAR will remember what happened to that kid!!!
True, it was a fantastic day of racing. One little word of advise to Fox Sports, if you go to the radio communication between driver and crew chief immediately after their car's engine blows without any sort of delay built in, expect Mike Joy to have to apologize a lot for language used! Especially when that crew chief is Chad Knaus! -
It is nice, but only 750 seats? Uhhhhhhh.....
I believe the UH field is already being used in the 5A Region 3 finals.
You're correct on that. My bad, Coach Long.
-
Seating for 750, huh? Let's just say it is a good thing that Coach Long has continued the Cubs' winning ways or I would warn him that he might want to wear asbestos lined underwear for the next few days. LOL! From the Banner article, I noted that Cougar Field at UH wasn't mentioned....I know the Cubs have played there in the past and I think they could accommodate a series. I guess I shouldn't question two coaches who have managed to get their teams to a regional final, but the choice at this point kinda baffles me.

I figured that some would call Coach's words unambitious. I prefer to call it tempering enthusiasm with realism. I love that football is back at Lamar, but let's not make this program something that it is not. It is not a program that has a lot to offer a Top 20 FBS team for that team to come to Beaumont. I'm not saying at some point that it won't. But let's step back folks! At this point last year, a team from Lamar University had not played a football game in over 20 years. You don't go from that to FBS ready in a year. I don't care about UTSA or others....Lamar is not there yet! I think of it as sort of a coup that in merely the 4th year of the revival of this program, Lamar will have managed to land on the schedule of a BCS conference team! Of course, I harbor no illusions as to why they will be visiting Stillwater, Waco, College Station or even Honolulu for that matter. It is for those schools to provide an opportunity for their fans, alumni and boosters to see their school kick the crap out of somebody. I still remember when ULL (then USL) went on their barnstorming tour which lead them to Jordan-Hare Stadium where Bo Jackson literally ran the Ragin Cajuns back to downtown Lafayette. They got exposure alright...an entire nation saying "Those poor, dumb bastards." But think of it this way, those that support the A&Ms, the UTs or the LSUs. Do you think that they flock to the games to see who has come to town? No. They flock there to see their teams play whoever it is that comes to town. That is why even when lil' Lamar University comes to town, Kyle Field will be filled to capacity. Whenever Lamar has that sort of following, not a following drawn by the novelty of the program or a concert following (that is a following drawn by who happens to be in town for the weekend), then it will be ready to host FBS teams.
Well said grad.
Grad's first loyalty is WOS, period. It appears to me that he doesn't want Lamar's football team to be better than the Mustangs. That's kind of sad to me.
NOTB, I certainly hope that this comment was made tongue in cheek.

I saw that the Brenham/Magnolia series will be played at "Mumford." Now I have heard of some very out of the way places, but never Mumford. I looked up on google maps and found a Mumford which is a 1A school about 15 miles northwest of Bryan. Is that really the Mumford that they are talking about? If so, why the heck are they playing there?

C'mon! A BC player or coach was named on 4 of the 5 superlatives and the entire BC starting lineup was named in either the superlatives, 1st team or 2nd team! Exactly what more do y'all want? -

Completely nuts! Gotta feel for the Hildebrand kid though! And the shot ABC showed of the soldiers in Baghdad reacting to the crash didn't help matters.
