Im not sure if he has a clue of the ramifications if he passes up Cornel. There will be a Mass Exodus from Mustang land. Mr. Colbert could turn this school into 1A with one decision. Like I said before, I have heard nothing but great things about the man. hopefully were all over reacting. Cornell Thompson deserves that job. He IS Mustang football. Look what happened when he left in 99 season. We had one of the worst years ever. He comes back in 2000 and we go to the BIG game. Surely someone with intelect could rationalize that argument, surely. Like I said before, if he doesnt get it, Im gone. Reason being is the respect I have for that man and what he molded us into for adulthood. Put it this way, when I had my first college practice I thought it was a joke. i thought, surley college has to be harder than highschool? HAHA was i mistaken. Even Pro ball was way easier than the WOS program. That dicipline and work ethic that he demands is reason alone to give him the job. Why in the**** are we even having to talk about this??
Kicker, I didn't think Cornell left in the '99 season.  I thought he left after the 2000 season for three years ('01, '02, '03) and was back in '04.
You're correct, stangfan.
No, not Colbert, but y'all are getting warm.  Reports over the weekend that I got indicate that Colbert's media tour looks like it was merely to lower some guards and that some of the "qualities" that he and his blue ribbon committee are seeking have NOTHING to do with coaching ability.  Those that wish to dismiss on the basis that Colbert is a "personable" guy or knows all about sports, well that is your right to do so.  However, those that wish to see Cornel Thompson as the next head coach need to take a big interest and contact the folks at the WOCCISD and let those folks know that they are being watched.
 13. Congratulations to you and both of your boys, Yeller!

 17. Damned insomnia! Craig, your view is a little more enlightened than others with regard to participation.  At least in your case it is decided at the very outset where everyone stands if the student values the commitment to select sport rather than the high school sport...that is no participation whatsoever in the high school sport. That being said, I can see how such ultimatums can sour a high school coach or athletic director on select sports.  As a coach, part of their job is to mold and train the athletes that they are given.  They must do so on a schedule that is dictated to them by the UIL, so the flexibility a coach can exercise is somewhat limited.  So for a parent to go to said coach and say "This is how it is going to be", I could see where select sports earn the nicknames like "daddy ball."  But at least in that situation it is settled.  The pet peeve of mine is when the parent does the above and when the decision is made that the student not participate in the high school sport and the parent, or even worse the coach of the select team, comes on to forums such as these and complains that the high school coach or administrator is some sort of unyielding jerk simply because they have set some reasonable guidelines as to participation in that sport. As Craig doesn't expect to hear any complaints from coaches once the decision is made, coaches don't want to hear anything from the parents, either.
 18. Well, I guess since this school year started with girls and boys blowing off volleyball and football for select softball and baseball, we have come full circle. In all seriousness, though, during the school year, high school sports should take priority over select sports if that person commits to being a member of a high school team.

 20.
Thought it would be cool to have an all inclusive Texas World Cup or some other given name.. I kinda like the World cup name. But it would include all high school soccer programs... I would like to see how the 4a champs would fair against the 5a champs and UIL against TAPPS.. and so on and so forth to be called the true Kings or Queens of Texas.  Could rotate between Houston, Dallas and Austin.. I am not sure how many programs there are but you may have to be first, second or possibly third in your respective districts to qualify.. just thought it would be cool. probably could get some scouts out their to take a look at the crop of Texas players all in one venue.. make it happen WOSgrad!
Hahaha! RIP, your perception of my political pull far outreaches reality! Unfortunately, the UIL has prohibitions against such post championship games as does TAPPS.  It is a grand idea and would be a good showcase.  Perhaps the idea that would more likely fall more within the UIL and TAPPS guidelines would be an all-star game in the area.

 22. To get ready for the 2011 Football Season, I started last week sending out questionnaires to the coaches who teams SETXsports.com will be doing previews on.  The first batch went out last week and I just got back from the Post Office where I deposited the others for delivery.  Coaches, if you haven't gotten a questionnaire by next Friday, please shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] so that I know who may be missing one. As soon as these schools coaches for 2011 are determined, I'll be sending a questionnaire out to them. Coaches, thanks for helping me out on this!
