Yes, w. I am a fan of Ronnie Anderson. I imagine there are quite a few of those. I am also a fan of stability. That is how it has something to do with this. Stable programs have done well as WO-S. When those programs lost their stability, like the revolving door of baseball coaches that followed (including good coaches like Coach Thompson, Sam Moore, Steve Parkhurst and the like) that program had fallen on hard times. I would like to see some stability in the WO-S athletic program and I don't see that turning the program over to 61 year old will bring that. If someone were to tell me that Coach Thompson was committed to carry on 8-10 years after Coach Hooks hung it up, I would happily reverse myself. I just don't know that will happen.
When did Steve Parkhurst coach at WOS???? Isn't he an attorney??
Sorry, td. It was Westbrook I was thinking of.

Need updated standings in 19-4A
Think again, please take a look at the standings which were updated this morning.
I'll just say they aren't current and leave it at that grad. We are 2-2 @ BH. Someone help the WOSgrad out.
Yes, I need some help, because as I just read what my update was earlier this morning, Barbers Hill is 2-2 in district. Believe me I need help, because there are districts where I get hardly any scores, so I have difficulty updating the standings. But I think I have the district standings in 19-4A pretty much up to snuff, with the exception of King and NF because I don't know what the score of their game was Friday night. -

Okay, before I start there are a couple of things: I love what Cornel Thompson has done for the West Orange-Cove CISD and I believe he would be a wonderful AD if ever selected for the job and would be a good candidate for assistant AD. That being said: 1. Tabbing Coach Thompson as the heir to Coach Hooks at this point and time would be a foolish thing. As both men are around the same age, I don't see Coach Thompson hanging around the coaching ranks much longer than Coach Hooks. In fact, as I have said many times, my belief is that the two men will retire about the same time. Even if they don't, Coach Thompson would probably be a one or two year replacement at most, rendering him basically a transitional coach and AD. One of the reasons that programs at WO-S have done well is stability. Three members of the football coaching staff (Hooks, Thompson and Mark Foreman) have been there since I was in junior high. One the reasons that the WO-S baseball program used to be the best was that Ronnie Anderson was there forever. Once he left, a virtual revolving door of coaches (including Coach Thompson) left the baseball program in shambles to the point where it has seen success only recently with the revival under Coach Jesse Riojas. Why would you have the keys turned over to a person who probably doesn't have teaching in his long range plans? I am quite sure that this is what Dr. Collins had in mind when he tabbed Coach Newton as the assistant AD. Coach Newton, a man who does have some roots in Orange who does have a commitment to the program long term. 2. Why would we think that Coach Thompson would want the position? Recall that Coach Thompson did have his opportunities as the head man (head football at Palestine and head baseball coach at West Orange-Stark) and from what I understand, found both experiences pretty bitter ones. Not to say that Coach Thompson isn't ambitious, but these past experiences may have lent Coach Thompson to be content with the position he has right now! There are plenty of things to blame Dr. Collins for in his tenure as superintendent, but I don't think this is one of them.

The article is not exactly correct. Peters' streak ending loss did not cost Brenham the championship that year. That is because Peters' loss came in the second game of a best two out of three. Brenham's other undefeated pitcher, James Nix, won the 1st and 3rd games of that series. I believe it was a regional final.

Looks like I might be able to make it on line tonight...but is there a surprise team for either you or Mike to this point in the season?
I'm one of them.
...and I am not. But the rankings look good to me! -
First to answer the "how were they chosen question": After we received the nominations, each head coach and coordinators began to fit the personnel around their offense and defense. We set the number of players from each school before we began. For example, PN-G was to have 3 players chosen while Orangefield had two. We took all the nominations and fit these into the offense and defense of each head coach. For the West team with Newton running a RUN oriented offense there needed to be enough running backs where the WO-S offense needed more receivers. I know that last week we didn't choose some running backs for the East because we needed more receivers. I hope that answered the question. Second: I have not had contact with coach Barbay in a couple of days and I was not there Wednesday night so I can't give you the names of all the coaches for the West but this is what I know: East: Coach Hooks, Thompson, T. Foreman:WO-S, Mike Pierce:LC-M, W.T. Johnson: Kirbyville, Offensive Line Coach: PN-G, Ty Quick: Jasper, Verril Young: P.A. Memorial West: Curtis Barbay, Newton Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, Bryan Barbay: Coldspring, Darrell Barbay: Anahuac, Assistants from: Evadale, Crosby and West Brook. As soon as I get the names of the PN-G coach, Evadale, West Brook, Crosby coaches and Newton's Offensive and Defensive coordinators I will post them. Many questions will be answered at the News conference this next week and we will be going on Sports programs in the next few weeks to answer questions. Hopefully we can get invited on all three TV stations within the week and maybe some radio programs. It will be exciting. I do want to reiterate that I believe all of the young men chosen deserve this honor and unfortunately there may have been some left off that we just as deserving...hopefully we will make this thing better each year. This is a learning year and we hope to build a tremendous tradition with it.
Thanks, Coach Foreman. We appreciate you giving us the scoop on this Inaugural Event!
