  1. Can anyone read and comprehend a thing that I have written. I am giving credit where credit is due to Coach Stewart, no doubt it is what it is. As for the rest of my point, I am not talking about that waste of our time, skills and well whatever else you want to call it, but I am advocating those that gave their all and made an impact over history.
  2. That is all the truth, especially the later and makes you feel as if we all just has our time wasted.
  3. AJ certainly attains the level of best receiver, but the others recently have been terrific and honestly before the last several years Dayton just never really had any receivers.
  4. Here is just a list of the QB's I can remember and they build up to the answer I believe. There are others that if I know I am leaving off the list, but anyway. Josh Day Curtis Trousdale Tony Sandels (God only if he had 4 years and a good coach) Derrick Briggs (biting my tongue) Zach Smith Rick Davis Dakari Pearson Bobby Little Calvin Davis Gregory Charles (Did more than any QB in school history as the 3rd stringer, got to love the story) Cody Green (By far the most talent to play QB, if nothing else the only pure true QB I can ever recall)
  5. I am aware of that sign and I it had some mistakes on it I might add!
  6. That program as far as I can knew has never been for former athletes and their accomplishments. Tell me if I am wrong, but it is more teachers, board members, staff and all I thought. Did several stories on it when I was with the Vindicator. Anyway we need to do something. My stall comment might have been out of line, but it was a poke at myself.
  7. Tell you all what, if I give you Stewart and the field name, can we have a Wall of Honor for all of those that have made an impact over the history of the team, and a plaque over a bathroom stall for me, LOL! I really do hope that someone will try and do something to recognize the greatest Broncos over the course of time to name a few Smitty, Stewart, Durio, Pruitt, Allen Smith, Herman Rip, Pearson, Joe Carter, and yes my Grandfather Barney Clifton Payne. So many already have departed from us and there are so many that are to make their legends over time, but let us honor them all.
  8. I am taking nothing away from Jerry Stewart and no one can either, it is what it is, no doubt. But Dayton has been here for a long time and it has gone through change after change, look at the old buildings and places from the past that were really just torn down and brushed aside. Then ask yourself what has always been the one constant that has always been there and every year we get to live another chapter, that is Dayton Bronco Football and I feel it all is part of great story. Call me a sentimental fool, dreamer, but I just love it all.
  9. Come on now Dayton made the playoffs 11 times in the schools history with a record of 6-9-1 over a 63 year period. That is 7 playoff years with a record of 2-7 Dayton was 9-41 the five years before Stewart got here. We were a terrible football program going nowhere. 13 playoff seasons in a row with a record of 14-12. I suppose we should all drink some purple kool aid too, but you can not just dismiss the 1931 and 1941 Regional Titles(1951 also I believe not looking at my history book right now), which I might add was the pinnacle that one could reach in those days. All of the stories that folks have shared over the years and the personal heroes that are our friends, fathers, uncles and grandfathers don't matter. Remembering players over the years Glen Pruitt, Calvin Westcott, Ivory Durio or my all time favorite Quinn Wood just is worthless to waste our time with all because they were not in this era, shaking my head on that one! Again Dayton needs a Wall of Honor for these past greats. I will admit Will Moore and Larry Sherman made sure to honor the 1941 Broncos for the 50th Anniversary of the stadium and that remarkable team. To all of you young men wearing purple and white keep it up and never quit, be great and whether or not you are better than past teams every single one of you will always be a part of the story, always.
  10. Toups you are the man! Love all you do, as it lets me get in on things I don't get to see hiding up here in the Pineywoods!
  11. Sorry but for many of us there was great deal of love for the Broncos and the stadium, we were filling it up Friday nights with an 0-10 record at one time. I respect Stewart and I mean this without offense to him, but Dayton Bronco Football was here long before he was and the pride of that past still holds water for many residents, and those of us scattered around other places. Now any idea otherwise may come from all of the newcomers to our area, I do not know for sure, but the purple blood runs a lot deeper than some of you folks may recognize. Ask me sometime and I will tell you about every Friday night and how I spent way before I lived in Dayton. On topic I am planning on getting down there, got a basketball game to cover that afternoon but I am planning on being there. Should be a good game, this is not Terry from a year ago and I think that is a blessing, anyway Dayton should take it to the house.
  12. See the memories are so touching!!!
  13. I am not a fan of naming rights, with exception to a clear beyond any other option name. As for one you are looking at quality names, all true and we need a WALL OF HONOR in Dayton for all of them, way past due my friends and that brings all of those names together in Bronco Stadium. Another issue against naming for someone throws cash and wants the no offense, Johnny "Goat" Dudley Stadium and I do love ya Goat, but nah not in for that. But hey go ahead and name it after a great former Bronco if you must, but even though my Grandfather (scored first ever TD in Stadium and if you ask the older generation I promise they will share his name with you, anyhow) and many other relatives played there is not the deal here, I would and only would upfront without flinching agree to place Schmitty on the Press Box, who crossed over more generations of Broncos than that fine man???
  14. After that hit you took they should name it Toups Graphics Field!!!!! how bout jerry stewart field!!!!! nice ring to it. i feel if it should be named, that name fits it good for all he's done for the program. 13 straight years in the play-offs tells it all. think about it. No offense to Jerry Stewart, because he does his thing but Bronco Stadium has stood on that site for 67 years now and I think that is the way it should always be all about the Broncos.
  15. Yeah about that, with you all being so crappy we are going to rename the county for any team that wins state. So it is possible we may be living in DaytonClevelandHardinHull-Daisetta County when all is said and done, Liberty has to go.
  16. Giant turnout of Dayton and Elgin fans dressed in purple, or largest gay pride rally ever
  17. Listen in live Tuesday, Dec. 2 as the Tarkington Longhorns will do battle with the Diboll Lumberjacks at 7:30pm. The game will be played at Angelina College in Lufkin. Also at 6pm the Diboll Lady Jacks and Bullard Lady Panthers will battle it out for East Texas braggin' rights, as the No. 2 and No. 5 teams in class 3A. Tarkington fans, actually all Liberty County folks tune in as yours truly will be providing the color for both games.
  18. Tune in Dec. 2 at 6pm if you want to hear a great contest in girls basketball, when the Lady Jacks of Diboll do battle with the Bullard Lady Panthers at Angelina College. Both teams bring impressive post players and point guards to the game, should be a battle. Most likely this will serve as the Class 3A Region III Championship preview. So all of you folks, especially the hometown Liberty County faithful tune in as your native son will be providing commentary. The Tarkington vs Diboll boys game will also be broadcast at 7:30pm.
  19. Its all about an attitude and with a big win in two weeks they will definitely capture that attitude!!!
  20. Dayton eats Elgin's lunch and enjoyed the sausage
  21. That would be great for the area and Abe Martin would be a terrific facility for these two contests. Some of us folks here in Diboll will just have to play host to all of you!
  22. Seeing as how I have Dayton and Cleveland both winning state, I am with both!
  23. There could be a real nice East Texas flavor next week, can ya'll imagine WOS vs Gilmer and Cleveland vs. Carthage, very likely to happen!!!
  24. Diboll is not that good. They gave up 60+ to Carthage, 54 to Gilmer, 48 or so to Coldspring. I know Carthage and Gilmer are good, but that is no defense. Diboll had opportunities to do things and killed themselves with turnovers. It is easy to score 54 when you are given a short field 4 or 5 times. Gilmer is a good team, don't get me wrong, but they are not unbeatable. You just have to sustain drives and not have turnovers to keep the ball away from them. For the record Diboll is a very solid team and they hung with some great competition all year long. They have some issues on the D, but they only lost to #1 Kirbyville by 6, and Carthage and Gilmer, well the winner between those two is likely on their way to a state tile. Bottom line Diboll has a heck of a good offense and they were shutdown. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. I KNOW WE HAVE A DATE SET WITH CALDWELL THIS UPCOMING WEEK, BUT IF WE GET PAST THEM, AND YOU GUYS GETS PASSED MEXIA, LOOKOUT FOR THIS SHOWDOWN IN 3A. No offense, but WOS does not want any of Gilmer this year!!!
  25. Dayton will get back on track this weekend and maybe all of us should have a little less Ice Cold Purple Rocky Top Soda for a few rounds.
