  1. Moody won tonight in 4A Also, Giddings beat Bellville, in 3A 1st game.
  2. The team of 1960 went to Regional; that was a far as you could go in Bracket Play back then
  3. It's always fun to be a Saturday Morning Quarterback..... Looking back at the last game--I think I would have started either Zoch or Cessac and tried to get just one inning out of them. Then, I would have pitched Matt Hicks for up to three innings only(he was legal for as many at 10 innings on Saturday). Then, I would have pitched Kellogg for an additional three inning(he was legal for up to 10 innings on Saturday)...... It's so easy to look back and have an alternate opinion.
  4. THE FILMS WILL SHOW THAT THE AGGRESSIVE ACTIONS BY THE FIRST BASEMAN WERE COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE! This blabber by the two SH people on here is simply and grossly not true. Robertson was quietly walking to the dugout with one Ref by his side. When the attack by #20 began; that Ref and the others that were actually close-by simply "froze" and did not intervene in the aggressive attack. Robertson put his hands up and simply backed-up: keeping silent.... Send the films to the UIL and the Officials' home Units and see if these four men can maybe be put on probation, or something, to keep this type poor Officiating from being ignored in the future. This type in-action by the Officials could well be used on into the future in training films to show(using as examples), how Officiating should NOT be handled in the future. Go Carthage!
  5. What I saw was SH blocked every base our runners came to with semi-pass blocks....In this case in the third game the second baseball characteristically set up--out in front of the second base-- dead in the middle of the base path. Just as Robertson got to the base he stepped to the right to go around him(SH 2b) and at the same time the second base took a half step that same direction and--he leveled him! Could have been accident that they ran together. What needs investigated is why as Robertson was quietly leaving the Diamond--the first baseman 6' 5" #20 came running at him and hit him several times. Roberson was looking at his Coach and the four Referees in astonishment as the 1B youth kept pushing and hitting and NO Official even did any thing but watch! The BC fans began a loud chant during the fiasco, "twenty goes too!", "Twenty goes too!", on & on. After many chants and the protest of the plumpeting delievered to the ejected player and the fact that #20 was not thrown out--the Officiating went straight down hill from that moment on. Every outside ball was called a strike against BC.....I wish the films could be submitted to the Refs Associations about the other boy not being thrown out of the game!
  6. It has long been rumored that the officiating from mid-East Texas and north-East Texas inject themselves into the projected outcomes of ball games in favor of their local teams. I wonder if this also means a number of strikes that are 12" to 20 " outside the home plate. I am pulling for Carthage, it should be a non-bias ballgame because they are from the same general area.
  7. That is interesting Red Bird 5....How did you get your squeeze--thoughts on to my thread...I looks like I wrote it when I did not.......
  8. We met some of the BC crowd there and enjoyed a meal together. An array of 6 meats to choose from: plus, drink of choice, three vegetables from a big choice & home made cornbread. By the way--all for $ 5.99 Bring your cooler with ice in it and buy the best Ribeye Steaks I have tasted-- from the meat reefer that's right in the restaurant; to bring home for later. Maybe see you there for lunch tomorrow?
  9. You know I think the BC Coaching did a good job; but fact is, these two teams had two of the best Outfield sets of distance-arms that you could find. It was a strategy issue: SH chose to respect our OFs good accurate arms(especially Kellogg's) and BC Coaching chose to try to get a few errant throws to get a few more folks across the plate and also to third. Fact was the Out Field for SH just did not break-down and the risk/reward of this-- stretch bases-- strategy did not pan out last night. BC has good Coaching and should be a factor in tomorrows contest. Good luck Cardinals on this big task of beating the #1, in two contest.
  10. As you pass through Huntington turn right at the Post Office and there is a restaurant/meat market about 500 yards down on the left of the small street. What a variety of good food!
  11. Spring Hill wins to sweep Robinson Listen to this article or download audio file.Click-2-Listen By RICK KRETZSCHMAR Sunday, May 24, 2009 CANTON — Spring Hill baseball pitcher Garrett Methvin had few problems getting 20 outs on Saturday, but getting one more out proved difficult. Fortunately for Methvin and the Panthers, Dylan Brown took care of out number 21. Needing just three pitches for a save, Brown preserved a 4-3 Spring Hill win over Robinson to conclude a 2-0 sweep of a best-of-three Class 3A Region III quarterfinal series at the Canton High School Baseball Field. Robinson nearly rallied with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases on three Methvin walks, followed by a RBI infield single by Matt Walker and a two-run double to right-centerfield by Boone Weiss. Brown relieved Methvin at this point and struck out Taylor James to end the game and preserve the win for Methvin. It was Brown's second save of this season, but he said it was the first time he had earned a one-out save. Spring Hill coach Griff Mauldin said he felt confident in Brown's ability to get strikes on his curveball. "I threw two curveballs and a fastball. I felt like I had him when it was 0-2 because I thought I could get him with the fastball," Brown said. "I wasn't nervous. You just go out and play your best." Spring Hill (28-2) advances to the Region III semifinal round, where the Panthers will face Bridge City or Orangefield at a time, date and place to be determined. Bridge City and Orangefield played the third and deciding game of their Region III quarterfinal series Saturday night. Robinson's season concludes at 24-5. Other than the seventh inning, Methvin had another strong outing, improving his season record to 12-1. Methvin had 11 strikeouts and allowed five hits. Four of Robinson's five hits were doubles, including two by Josh Lemon. Methvin pitched a complete-game shutout in Spring Hill 4-0 area-playoff win over Mexia on Tuesday. Methvin said Saturday was the first time he has pitched on three days rest and fatigue was a factor in the seventh inning. Methvin said getting behind in the count hurt his seventh inning as well. "I was still able to spot my fastball, but Robinson was a better hitting team than Mexia," Methvin said. "We've been told this is the furthest Spring Hill has advanced in the playoffs. That motivates us and we want to go as far it will carry us." Spring Hill scored what turned out to be three critical runs in the third inning. Ryan Lacy led off the frame with a bunt single and Brown reached base on a fielding error by Robinson second baseman James. After Methvin was hit by a pitch, Miles Peloquin drew a bases-loaded walk. Brandon Arden followed with a two-run single to right field. Robinson pitcher Walker suffered his first loss of the 2009 season, dropping to 8-1, but settled down after Arden's hit. Walker pitched a complete game, not allowing a hit in his final 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing two earned runs. Mauldin said Lacy's bunt was the key to the third inning. "Lacy has good speed and he bunts the ball good too," Mauldin said. "We like to strike early. We felt if we could score four runs, it would be enough for Garrett." Fifth Inning Spring Hill denied a scoring opportunity for Robinson in the top of the inning. Lemon led off the inning with a double to right-centerfield and went to third base on a Philip Hurtado groundout. Zach Yelland followed with a walk. Methvin struck out the next batter, Walker. Spring Hill catcher Ryan Small dropped the third strike, but because Yelland was at first base, Walker was out and Yelland could have stayed at first. After Small's drop however, Yelland broke for second base. Small quickly recovered and threw Yelland out at second for an inning-ending double play. Notes Spring Hill scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning. Small singled to left and the ball got past Robinson left fielder Yelland, allowing Small to advance to second. Small's courtesy runner, Tyler Leath, scored on a two-out single up the middle by Peloquin ... Spring Hill had no extra-base hit and no batters with more than one hit
  12. Spring Hill was ranked #2 but Cuero lost and vacated the #1 spot......In a way this is the #1 Team Longview Spring Hill facing the #2 team Bridge City! I too say three games with BC advancing.
  13. I think H-F has a cake-walk this week. Cameron Yoe gave Taylor all they wanted in two games this year and they are an extremely young team. H-F wins big with absolutely no problems.
  14. I appreciate that....can you give the exact location of the Baseball USA site that we will be playing at so we can go to mapquest and get the correct one There seems to be two separate locations showing up????
  15. CAUTION; I tried to open the site Bobcat4life(map) has above here and it locked up my computer....it took a lot of work to get a virus out of my system......
  16. If it is all sunshine Taylor may win....if it starts raining H-F has a good chance of winning LOL
  17. I think BC will blitz them early and come on and win stoutly.
  18. Some Reflections: Occasionally Matt has a bad start: he did have one against that first four and others at the warm-up; however, did you see how he handled these tough hitters after that. I was also impressed with Zoch. He looks like a sound closer: an off-beat Lefty with accuracy and an unusual pitch array.
  19. I think that Boothe is considered their strongest Pitcher and he pitched second. They pretty will pitched there viable staff except for Arandt(sp) who played CF.
  20. I am trying to get info on any broadcast--for our shut-ins and folks not attending=== gobblersports.com sets up live feeds also, www.twitter.com/gobblersports may be the specific site. Would someone astute in all this stuff please try to get use-able sites and info for local and Texas-wide folks? This "Twitter" sites sounds interesting---folks can get signed on and text messages live from the games and thereby keep a live info stream of information flowing via a site on the Internet..probably skewed a little according to the bird team they are pulling for.. Someone please flesh out this tech info. Is a local broadcast effort a possibility?.... Also, Here is another routing to the game.... DIRECTIONS: IH-10 to Beltway 8....Then turn right at Wilson Rd. exit(in Humble). You will stay on Wilson and Wilson will cross both Atascocita Rd. & Clayton Parkway before you get to the school....Go past the H.S. and the Jr. High then turn right into the ball park. From the Wilson Exit Sign on BW-8--- total distance 3 miles.
