  1. I started one like this on 3 A Down Low--with first & second choice...Lets see the difference over there, where folks are from other areas..... 5A Houston Bellaire #2 Klein Collins 4A CC Callallen #2 Nederland 3A Bridge City #2 Cuero or Taylor 2A Buna 1A Evadale Am I ever a homer!! ;D
  2. The spread can be effective with a very high-intelligent Coach calling the plays. If it is used about 20% of the time to augment conventional hard-nose football: then it is a good tool. It seems that the 100%er type Coaches just modify their schedules down to finding the weakest teams they can play to keep their win/loss record good enough to get another job when the time comes. ;D My beef is the poor training for conventional "fire out line football" that big kids in the line never learn in HS; playing for the 100%er spread coaching.
  3. Jasper can whip any 6 and 4 team that I know of...
  4. OF is just too strong for this 22-3A Liberty team!
  5. I called "Chip" at Baseball USA and it is off completely at their location, but the game is still on against Cameron on Monday the 18th there.
  6. Last I heard it was Friday night......Why doesn't the school run some buses for fans...We are willing to pay a fair price.....
  7. Real solid team player....Some college will be getting a good one!
  8. "Hurry, call the ball game we just went ahead!"...... Wow, What a wonderful place for a playoff ballgame! The Yoemen and Cardinals will have a wonderful game to remember.
  9. Again, I would love to see OF play Longview Spring Hill earlier that same day at the Baseball USA facility...Or maybe Lufkin Hudson vs Sinton the night before and Cameron Yoe could play Carthage earlier on that first day. I would spend the night over there to see all those quality games.
  10. This can be a real touchy subject....As shovelhead stated the most important people on the field may just well be the big guys down in the three point stance and four point stances. In my home town, BC, the offensive linemen don't get down and blast-out a block; they simply shield runners and pass block. Consequently, they are not prepared to get scholarships to the bulk of colleges that run plays that really utilize linemen blocking in historically conventional manners........I ask some big ole athletic boys why the did not play football and they simply answered, "Doing the 'West Brook Squat' instead of firing out and blocking is real boring and I would rather spend my time on other sports and adventures."
  11. I certainly enjoyed being a spectator for this event....Hope they do it every year at this time. What amazed me is the strength of the bench; I saw some terrific plays being made both offensively and defensively by those spending part of the time on the bench through this season. What a loaded team.
  12. Is their any information out saying Coach Wayne M.-- being the new AD at H-F next year?
  13. I was in Madisonville at the ballgame on April 9 and the Yoemen won 11-4. They have won out with scoring around 8 runs per game. They handled everyone in the District but Taylor pretty well. They have a new Coach...a young team... seem inconsistent...capable of giving a good surprise performance: but vulnerable in some savvy-needed areas . A few years back BC pounded the Yoemen over at Baseball USA, in the Quarter-rounds of the playoffs. I respectfully disagree that this is a weak District....Taylor rightfully has been as high a #2 in 3A ratings and always in the top five. Rockdale has been rated also. Remember Cameron has played Taylor to a 4-2 ballgame--they have shown a toughness beyond their years of age. They also lost to Robinson 5-4 early on and Robinson is a rated team. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now I saw the whole softball game and the very young Cameron team beat the District Champs Madisonville 9-0 that night. I pick them to win 2A next year when they drop-down.
  14. There is a funny story from years back when a high ranking faculty member approached the Coach and stated, " I want to see the best 8 that we have on that field...and also my kid." ;D
  15. It seems so strange.....I invited a visiting Contractor working in BC fixing flood victims houses to the OF/BC game Tuesday night. Well it turned out it was the only time I have seen Matt Hicks really labor--in those two first innings-- hitting two and walking three or four. This man has an 8th grader that is a hauss Select Pitcher Star playing in the Greater D-FW area. This youth already has a proven stat record: and seems to have a great future to develop somewhere. His Dad found me toward the end of the game and said, "We are moving down here because of so much job opportunity. My kid will play for the Cardinals." I ask why? and he said--"All Pitchers struggle once in while but this phenomenal defense behind him shutdown a no-out bases loaded first inning and also an almost similar situation in the second inning! A place that fosters teamwork with proven defensive results is where I want my boy to learn his HS baseball." So maybe we have another developing young Freshman Pitcher to learn from our two Ace Seniors--Matt Hicks and Keleb Kellogg, next season.
  16. A good article about a good team! 3A should be little easier but not too much. EBTU: Who are they warming-up against? I wish it was Longview Spring Hil; I would think it would be good for both teams to scrimmage....
  17. Sinton is good but I am way surprised to see they jump that far up! : I see this fellow is still hanging on to Longview Spring Hill down in the valley of 3A softball strength areas...LOL
  18. BC 6 OF 3....in an exciting game with two teams ready for the postseason!
  19. No one said anything about not winning! There has been a lot of good Pitchers utilized thus far. He has been effective in mixing up the pitching... and winning games.
  20. You know their is another way to look at the present situation. BC has the District Championship wrapped up and some might think it would be a good time to work the brace of other Pitchers besides K. Kellogg & Matt H..... When you hit those harder 3 game playoff series having-- Wallace, Cessac, Zoch and all the others having faced OF & HF(maybe even some scrimmage situations); might give an added edge. If the defense has to work a little harder then that may be a good thing also..........Just another way to look at the situation LOL
  21. Yes, All of the teams in their District have lost more total games through the whole season than they have won. The 2A team Hallettesville that beat them 6-5 has lost two or three games in their 2A District play. That is in no way saying that Cuero does not have a top ten team: it is just saying IMO they have not played the strength-of-schedule that a lot of other teams in 3A have played...Example Giddings, Bellville, Sweeny, Lufkin Hudson, Sinton, Taylor, Rockdale, Robinson, Wylie, Huffman, Carthage, etc:
  22. Just a litle reading material about Cuero baseball....They are going to play West(a 3A out by Waco) and also Smithson Valley on the weekend, in warm-ups prior to playing BC on Tuesday night April 5. Sports No. 1 Gobblers first to 20 wins by Richard Morton, Record Sports Wednesday, April 15, 2009 8:09 AM CDT As the No. 1 ranked Cuero Gobblers (20-1, 6-0) enter the final two weeks of the regular season, they stand alone as the only team in 3A with twenty wins. Over the past week, the Gobblers pushed their win streak to fifteen with 16-9 win over Yoakum and a 14-0 win over Palacios. Senior Troy Ruiz beats the throw as he slides safely into third. The Gobbler’s are now on a 15 game winning streak and the first 3A team to reach 20 wins. (Record photo) Jennings Boothe (5-1) took the hill for Gobblers in Yoakum on April 7, picking up his fifth win while recording eight strikeouts on six innings of work. Cuero and Yoakum swapped runs in the first inning, before the Gobblers took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third. After gaining the lead, Cuero never looked back, adding six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Both squads added four more runs in the seventh, with Cuero leaving Yoakum with the 16-9 victory. Jake Rangnow lead the Gobbler offense with a 4-5 performance including two doubles and 4 RBI's. Boothe was 4-4 on the night with an RBI, Tyler Arndt was 2-5 with 3 RBI's, Tanner Hoffman went 2-3, and Klayton Smith was 2-4 on the night including a homerun and 3 RBI's. Thursday night, the Gobblers faced the Palacios Sharks with Gobbler ace Ross Goebel (7-0) getting the nod for Cuero. Goebel picked up his seventh win of the season allowing three hits on three innings of work. Kolton Smith took the mound in relief recording one strikeout in his two innings of work. The Gobbler bats were hot once again with the first three hitters in the lineup combining for an 8 for 8 night at the plate with four walks and eight runs. Boothe was 4-4 for the second game in a row, with four runs. Chance Harryman was 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI's. Arndt was 1-1 with 3 walks. Kolton Smith added 2 RBI's on a double, Rangnow added another 3 RBI's with a deep triple, and Ross Goebel helped his own cause with a 2-3 night including a double. This week the Gobblers (20-1, 6-0) stay home to face the Goliad Tigers on Tuesday night before heading to Gonzales on Friday to face the Apaches. As the regular season draws to a close, the playoff picture will start to become more clear. Cuero will look to close out their regular season with four more wins pushing their win streak to nineteen games. Print this story | Email this story
  23. In many ways--Baseballjunkie--we might all agree with you....In one game it seems that the hard grounders seem to just be hit right into the gaps(in the old days called seeing-eye-hits). On other occasions your best effort are hit right to the gloves etc: Also, grouping your team hits together even for one inning can win a crucial tight ballgame. Normally--errors, wrong quick-decisions, hesitant Coaching signals, or misjudgement calls can cause a loss. Luck has a lot to do with winning the really tight games most of the time; that is why it is hard to go undefeated even when you tend to put the better team on the field.
  24. To HawkHeckler4: Don't quit your day job and try to major in English.....
  25. EBTU: First of all I think it is great for the better ones to play other exceptional teams. I wish Huffman or one of the other 21-3As could make arrangements to play Longview Spring Hill, Taylor & rated others, etc: Oh yes, I think BC wins because of the caliber of play they have faced... I would hope they could play a double hitter; therefore, that would allow some of their Pitching staffs to be subjected to more hauss hitters. That location would be a nice place to have a host of postseason warm-ups! ;D......all on the same day! Sinton and Lufkin Hudson would also be a good matchup.
