  1. Hicks is good at any position;however, when he pumps a fast ball--he is pitching it in the upper eighties. He most always puts a lot of spin and slice-spin on his pitches; at lower speeds. Watch him sometime when he is- pushed- on a throw from SS, he can throw a rapid ball.
  2. Yes, Dillon will shine this season whereever he is needed. Some of the others showing promise as pitchers included Hubbard, Robertson, Rhodes and Breaux. Does anyone know of their current baseball status?
  3. You know, It was brought to my attention that stalwart performer Jadon Dillon is pitching-training under Sam Moore from Orange! With Dillon's excellent strong demonstrated athletic ability and proven pitching savvy that gives Bridge City a multiple punch from the mound. I also hear that Forrest Zoch a freshman may prove to be a premier pitcher as the years roll on. Can he help out this year? We will just have to let the season take place. Forrest is a future D1 prospect, he may be like Hicks was as a Freshman. It will be interesting to see if he is even needed this year.
  4. I am hearing that Snyder and Cessac have matured a lot at Bridge City. That gives a very loaded deep pitching squad! I remember about three years ago when BC took out Lufkin Hudson in 3 games, in near 100 degree temperatures--fairly deep(Regional Finals), in the bracket play. A big tall Senior burley kid named Kirk Vincent was all BC had left because the pitching staff was flat spent. Kirk Vincent started kicking high and drawing a good bead and looked like a big ole Arkansas farm boy chunking stream-rocks. It turned out that a deep pitching hard ball covey made the difference that day as Hudson did not quite have the deep pitching squad that BC did; thus. BC prevailed over the #1 team. I guess you could say that Kirk had "his day in the sun"! Clark, Hicks and the select others will get more time in District play but the depth factor sometimes counts in the playoffs.
  5. Congrats to Friendswood for a great year of volleyball.
  6. Wimberley again wins the 3A Championship this year. Congrats
  7. Casey Jackson could prove to be the best catcher in the state this year. Look for Jacob Felts of Orangefield to be the next premium player at catcher, as time progresses.
  8. Congrats to a good Friendswood team....I saw you play LC-M-- you have a great team, hope you win the championship.
  9. Can anyone share some additional recent data/info(copy/paste?) on China Springs, Hutto, & Columbus. They will be the teams, along with BC that will be playing in the Regional Tournament tomorrow night and Saturday at Bryan High School.
  10. China Spring tough in the playoffs for last four years. They went to the State Tournament last season! copy/paste print out China Spring takes out Taylor in 5-set thriller Wednesday, November 07, 2007 By Chad Conine Tribune-Herald staff writer Not too long ago, the China Spring volleyball team had never won a playoff match. Now the Lady Cougars are the team that thinks it is supposed to win when a playoff match goes to a fifth game. China Spring outlasted Taylor, 3-2, in a regional quarterfinal match Tuesday night at Robinson High School. By taking the fifth game, 15-8, the Lady Cougars advanced to their third straight regional tournament. China Spring (34-5) will play the Bellville-Bridge City winner in a 3A Region III semifinal on Friday at Bryan High School. The Lady Cougars, who advanced to the 3A state semifinal in 2006, are two wins away from again reaching that stage. However, China Spring coach Stacy Meyers said her team has already overachieved. “We’ve outdone what a lot of people thought we might do,†said Meyers as the China Spring fans and players exuberantly celebrated the thrilling victory over Taylor (25-8). “This team has got a lot of heart.†The Lady Cougars showed they also have a lot of nerve. After Taylor rallied to win Game 4, 26-24, the China Spring players displayed steely resolve going into the deciding game to 15 points. Lady Cougars outside hitter Stormie Elwood put down a kill to start the deciding game, then Karlyn Meyers and Kalie Ketner took turns setting up Jenna Dutschmann for a pair of kills. After a Taylor error, China Spring had grabbed a 4-0 lead and control of the fifth game. The Lady Cougars’ versatile attack at the net kept up the pressure as Meyers posted three kills and Raylan Witten and Dutschmann had a kill apiece and China Spring surged ahead, 10-3. By that time it was easy to tell which team had been to the state tournament the previous year. “Until four years ago, we’d never won a playoff match,†Stacy Meyers said. “Now they expect to win. “I think they just wanted it. They deserve to be here.†Karlyn Meyers finished the match with 20 kills and 18 assists. She was the difference maker at the net for the Lady Cougars as she kept Taylor guessing whether she would be hitting, setting up a teammate or dinking the ball into an open zone. Ketner’s effective serving also played a key role. Ketner served for four crucial points in Game 1, boosting the Lady Cougars’ lead from 20-17 to 24-17 and they eventually won, 25-18. After Taylor won Game 2, 25-20, Ketner again served for an important four-point run in Game 3 and also served for the final point of the 25-19 China Spring victory. Finally, Ketner started in the Lady Cougars serving spot and helped them grab the early 4-0 lead on the way to closing out the match.
  11. Well it was China Springs that topped Taylor 3-2 that will play in the semi-finals against Bridge City. This is a town to the northwest of Waco. It will be played at Bryan High. BC is a spirited bunch that will take a mighty good disciplined team to take them down at this point. I pick BC to take out China Springs and then face that premium team from Columbus for the right to go to the final four. Wow what a BC fan base last night at Klein Forest HS--band music!, awesome cheerleaders, a preforming Strutters drill team. Thank you Gina Mannino for your community leadership efforts!
  12. Well it happened again--conditioning of seasoned powerful athletes over came a really good Bellville team. BC came on strong in the 4th and 5th games to pull out a win at the quarter-final level. They will now go against the winner of the Taylor vs China Springs game tonight at the regional semi-final level. Will someone post the score of this contest here as soon as it is posted on the UIL board or other sports forums.....Thank you.... I think Taylor may well be the winner of this match-up tonight, but at this lofty bracket level it gets harder to give a sound prediction. LOL
  13. The UIL said it's at "Klein Forest" can someone put the directions on here?
  14. Again, I think Jas. & BC stand above the best, even on state ratings! I too would put OF as the probable winner of the #3 spot--good Coaching, good attitude, good work ethics and good fan base.
  15. The advent of the "Flamethrower" has kind of diminished with the advent of the high-tech pitching machines. Everyone who has coordination can hit a fast ball. The answer to great hitting comes with hitting the varied torquing multi-speed deliveries. I see Jason Clark and Matt Hicks dealing some great low ERAs this season. BC has other good pitching as does Jasper but Hicks and Clark are a class above all the attempts at "flamethrowing".
  16. Well BC plays Bellville on Tuesday night in Bellville(or maybe at Klein Oaks HS?), is what I hear.... Is there a poll out there that has Bellville #1, Monahans #2, & Columbus #3? I was proud of H-F for beating Bellville one of the four games. Bellville has been the State Champion fairly recently when they ousted Monahans. If BC can hang and get into the fifth game they could post a major upset! Remember, BC turned back OF, Sil. and LaGrange in the fifth game on shear stamina, athleticism and raw strength......Bellville will be their biggest challenge of the season. If BC were to upset Bellville then they would have to play the winner of Taylor vs China Spring. If they would win there; then they most probably would have to play the winner of the Caldwell vs Columbus contest on the other side of the Region III bracketing. I would look for Castroville-Medina Valley to represent Region IV and Monahans in Region I in the final four-----Regions II & III are too close a call to make a prediction LOL
  17. BREAKING NEWS: Upset, LaGrange beats Needville 3-2...Therefore Bridge City will play LaGrange
  18. Tuesday night, as expected H-F topped Splendora and also Silsbee topped Kingwood Park. Now it gets tough: Silsbee plays an excellent Columbus team. Bridge City probably plays a tough Needville team and H-F goes against a perpetual power in Bellville. Caldwell beat Wharton; thus, setting up a good game against Tarkington.
  19. I could find the first time they played in District play and Columbus won 3-2------ Scores: Col. 25 Need. 14; Col. 25 Need 13; Col. 16 Need. 25; Col. 23 Need 25; Col. 15 Need 10 I could not find the scores of the recent match-up but since Columbus is the District winner one must assume they won the last time they met. Both are projected to be good playoff candidates.
  20. Does anyone know the District 24-3A scores between the top teams--or can find them LOL? Scores like Columbus 24-3A winner vs Needville 24-3A runnerup would be interesting to project from; since our 21-3A teams will might well play them early-on....
  21. I am afraid it's just wishful thinking to try to project H-J into the equation with BC & Jas. These are your polling-#1 & #2 teams in the state for 3A to begin the season. H-J will be lucky to compete with OF and H-F this coming season.
  22. Unfortunately for 22-3A any of 4 teams in any order will be able to take out 22-3As top three teams. It's just one of those years......
  23. It's very early but we can guess and then update the bracket projections: It looks like Sil. gets an easy win then plays a very good Columbus team. It looks like H-F can win their first game and then play a tough Bellville team. It looks like BC plays a tough Needville team, after a bye, by representing 21-3A.. Caldwell may well be in the bracket picture also.
  24. Wow, 21-3A should be proud of the two front runners. My take was that maybe Sil. had the best Volleyball players, as was noted when they led-two to one after three games. However, in the last two games the strong athleticism, strength and stamina of the BC squad started to prevail; thus giving them them the coveted come-from-behind sweet win. Congrats also to H-F for prevailing over OF and getting the 3rd spot nailed for the bracket playoffs.
  25. I don't have a dog in this fight; however, it appears that the girls in the corners making important decisions are getting younger and younger at every game that I have attended. I saw a very young child that was making decisions with her hands when the ball was midway between the net and the boundary-line area-- falling near the back boundries--over and over again! I think schools should swap the girls and not use girls from the same schools that are playing the game. I would not hurt to use High School Seniors that have at least proven that they can be very attentive of the game at hand.
