So based on what I've seen over the first 3 weeks of the season this is my prediction of how the district will end up and the 4 teams I believe will make the playoffs. 1. Brenham 1. Montgomery 3. Huntsville 4. Waller 5. Rudder 6. Willis 7. Mag. West 8. Magnolia 9. Caney Creek 1. I put Brenham and Montgomery both at #1 because quite simply they are the two best teams in the district and most likely the game at Bear Stadium October 12th will decide who takes home the 18-4a hardware. I put Brenham over Montgomery only by default because year in and year out they always seem to find a way to beat the Bears, but this year may be differant. In any case we'll just have to wait and see. 3. I think Huntsville is the only team so far in the district other than the other two teams listed above that show any consistancy week in and week out. They have good overall team speed and a lot of athletes that can make plays on both sides of the ball but in my opinion they just haven't turned the corner to reach the level Montgomery and Brenham have achieved. 4. I put Waller as the 4th and final team to make the playoffs but honestly they could flip flop with either Rudder or Huntsville depending on how they handle playing Brenham after getting thrashed by El Campo. 5. Rudder gets my 5th place vote due to the fact that they did manage to beat Magnolia which has a lot of returning starters, but its the same Magnolia who has yet to prove anything in 4a. The teams I ranked 6-9 are all beatable for them. 6. Willis just makes too many mental errors and are way too sloppy as far as play execution goes, which is a far cry from the team that has made the playoffs the past few years. They will win enough district games to keep from being the team in the basement but the lack of depth and size where they need it keeps me from putting them any higher than 5 or 6. 7. After starting off with a strong showing in week 0 they mustangs have lost 2 straight and were straight up out played in both losses. The lack of team speed and execution as well as metal mistakes is what slides a team that was the #3 team in district 17-4a a year ago down to a 7th place team in the new 18-4a. They might surprise a few people and finish in the top 5 but I don't really see them rising any higher than that and certainly don't see a playoff birth this season. 8. Like I stated earlier, its Magnolia. They have yet to prove anything since moving down to 4a a few years ago. I would've picked them to finish higher had they not lost to a very young Rudder team that is fairly new to 4a coming up from 3a. Magnolia should battle Caney Creek for the basement title. 9. Caney Creek started the season with hype of how the team would be in 2012 only to follow that up with a loss to a team that hasn't exactly been good in the past decade in New Caney. They did win a game agaisnt a lack luster Porter team but the game was close until midway through the 4th quarter. Then followed the win with a loss to Willis. They should be the frontrunner for the last place finish.

Battle Of The Brazos: Brenham @ Waller- Predictions?

BrenhamFan, I'm going based off of what I have seen so far. My statement wasn't intended to be disrespectful and I know that Brenham has fast athletes, I played them in high school and they have always been a fast team. That being said, Montgomery has 6 players on the offensive side of the ball and a couple on defense that run legit 4.4 40's and most other skilled players (starters) that average around 4.5 - 4.6 and can move like that in pads. I know most of them and I've witnessed this first hand. Over the past few years Brenham has had excellent team speed and this year I haven't seen what they have, but based off what I've seen , and when the two teams meet I'll get a chance to see, Montgomery has more team speed than any other team in 18-4a. I'm not saying that there aren't players on other teams that are fast but as a unit the amount of speed that the Bears are putting on the field this year is overwhelming. Both Dawson and Angleton had problems with them in the second half of the games and like I said before had it not been bad weather Huntsville would've been out of it early. But I am anxious to see THE Brenham Cubs take on the Bears this year. It's all gonna come down to coaching and which team is better diciplined and conditioned. I think we can both agree that after our two teams there is a HUGE drop off in team caliber so 3rd and 4th place will most likely be a toss up. -
Montgomery vs Caney Creek Predictions

Im just going based off what I witnessed when I watched them play Porter, and they must have had a culture change or something before you played them, they are the main reason I began wearing a visor my sophomore year. I'd look for Montgomery to get that W this year, Brenham is down the game is in Bear Stadium and Montgomery has a very talented young team that seems to be gelling now. If it weren't for the rain last week Huntsville would've been down by 28 after the first half. The run game and deadly down field threats for Montgomery this year are gonna be too much for anyone to handle in district this year especially if Josh Bolfing keeps progressing as a passer and game manager like he has so far. -
Battle Of The Brazos: Brenham @ Waller- Predictions?

I think this year it's gonna come down to Montgomery vs Brenham for the district title. I'd have to give Montgomery the nod right now considering how close they played the #1 and #3 teams in 4a losing by 10 and 11 points respectivly, I know Brenham has had the Bears number since the series started, but both teams are essencially the same teams with all the underclassmen starting and Montgomery I would have to say definatly has the more talented team and they are extremely fast they can literally turn the corner with anyone of the 5 skill players they put on the offensive side of the ball at any given time and I just don't think any team in 18-4a has the speed to keep up with them. Both Angleton and Dawson had hard times containing them. -
Montgomery vs Caney Creek Predictions

I would have to say yes to the statement that we hate Brenham but at the same time Willis and Caney Creek are in there, I played for Montgomery and we played Caney Creek when they were actually good. They just talk A LOT of trash and as far as sportsmanship goes, they have NONE, so I'd be looking for a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct calls and personal fouls, especially towards the end of the game. I'd also like to add that the only reason Montgomery hates Brenham is because they've never beat them, but at least there's some respect in that rivalry. -

I'd look for a close game early, then Brenham slowly but surely pulling away. Waller just doesn't have the talent from past years or the coaching and simply put, Coach West is a coaching mastermind. So I'm gonna say watch for a small margin to grow throughout the game. Brenham 35 Waller 14 -
Montgomery vs Caney Creek Predictions

Too much speed and talent, I actually went and watched Caney Creek play Porter, they didn't actually pull away until the 4th quarter, and both teams looked sloppy creek will have to play a perfect game to even keep that margin. Coach Bolfing won't call the dogs until the late third quarter for the simple fact that Montgomery HATES Caney Creek. If it weren't for dumb penalties and bad conditions last week Huntsville wouldn't have been within 28 either. -

I'll take a very talented and extremely fast Montgomery team by 28 at least. I'd honestly be surprised if Caney Creek can even get on the score board , they're slow and really sloppy even though they do have a win it was against an even sloppier Porter team and lost to New Caney who is a parenial team to battle for the basement in their district. Montgomery 49 Caney Creek 7

Magnolia West @ Brenham: Predictions?
timmieboy replied to BrenhamFan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Brenham 35 Mag. West 7 Brenham is down but in no way out. They're just having growing pains due to a young team and distraction. They should give Montgomery a good game for the district title. -
Could it be the old 18-4a?
