  1. Can anyone say "SI curse"? Sean's a good kid and I'm proud of him as a Jasper fan, but the Husker fan in me loves to see Mizzou on the cover. I say they keep going out there. Take three kids a week until they've all been on the cover. ;D
  2. It looks pretty good right now and could very well be a minimal hurricane once it comes in. It's probably 5-10 miles off of the SWLA coast and probably will make landfall very close to the border. For some reason, storms like that area the past few years. Good luck to everyone down there. Stay safe....
  3. That's very true. The best bet for that area is for the storm to come in near Galveston. It's not all that big, so the farther west it goes, the better. As it sits now, Edouord is forecast to turn slightly tonight and seems to be heading between Houston and Port Arthur. That's not good just because it's not moving fast and you'll get a ton of rain. Being on the eastern side also raises the risk of tornadoes being embedded in some of those thunderstorms as it comes ashore. All in all, it shouldn't be too bad and you guys could use the relief from the heat.
  4. I'm gonna throw a Jasper game out there that a few Bulldog fans might remember. We were hosting Huntsville in '89, who was state-ranked in 5A, and had one of the Clements boys (Chuck, I think) at QB. They had one of the most wide-open passing games going back then and Clements had a great night against us until Jasper's defense finally slowed them down in the 4th quarter. Jasper QB Ben Bronson kept Jasper in the game with several big plays and scored in the last two minutes to secure a 28-25 win. It was also Coach Walkoviak's 100th win in Jasper. The 3-0 loss to WOS in 1987, the 21-15 loss in 1986 and the 10-10 tie with Hebert in 1980 were a lot more memorable, though. We've had a lot of big wins, but those two losses really hurt.
  5. I'm not being pessimistic or scared...and I'm nowhere near you guys. I'm a realist and for a while, it looked like Dolly was gonna be a lot stronger than it is and it very well could have headed farther north than it has if she had gotten stronger sooner like a lot of storms have in the past few years. I'm glad it didn't because that's the last thing you all need right now. My concern was legitimate, so try not to be so critical. ;D
  6. BBQ'd with some potato salad and sweet tea. No one knows what sweet tea is here in Washington and it's sad.
  7. I'll gladly eat crow on this one. It looks like you guys are gonna get missed by this one.
  8. That track is crazy. Don't believe the hype and get ready. It's not gonna go that far south. I'd say between Matagorda Bay and Galveston with SETX getting the right front of it. I hope they're right, but it just seems unlikely that it'll track that far south...
  9. Agreed on all points. I know Jasper has good coaches and I don't doubt at all that they work hard, but these kids need exposure to a lot more than football from their coaches. It's tough for most of us now that have decent educations and getting tougher. Imagine what it's gonna be like for these kids that aren't putting maximum effort into their educations. Coaches have a lot of influence and when they're not in the classrooms, they need to be stressing education as much as they possibly can.
  10. It's hard to argue with anyone's opinions on this. Jasper has produced a lot of talented kids over the past 35 years or so.
  11. 1. Eugene Seale 2. Jorrie Adams- He was a monster from what I've heard while he was at JHS. 3. Reggie Davis 4. Red Bryant 5. Willie Cade There are guys that have done more after they left than some of these guys (Zack Bronson, Ben Bronson, etc.), but I can't think of 5 better players while they were at JHS...
  12. Congrats to Cody, his family and friends. Go Big Red!!! ;D
  13. We'll find out in Week 0 how Jasper and Gilmer match up. It's a good measuring-stick game for both teams.
  14. Good stuff. Those seem like great kids... ;D
  15. Bridge City followers and players have always shown such class in both victory and defeat as far back as I can remember following and being a part of several Jasper teams in different sports (some 25 years or so). I know we'll be in different districts for a couple of years, but I'm sure our coaches will schedule a game or two until we realign again. I was on pins and needles here in Seattle listening to Art Lay call the game. At least I can follow the Bulldogs because the Seattle Mariners are a joke right now...
  16. Far from it. The winner will still face a tough test against most likely Carthage, then would have to face most likely the HJ/Taylor winner. Lot of baseball yet to be played. I wasn't assuming the winner would get to Austin. I thought that was the last series. I'm sure the other series ahead will be tough for either team that advances in the Jasper/BC series. It was an honest mistake and I wasn't being cocky at all.
  17. This isn't to decide who goes to Austin. This is the Regional Quarterfinals. After this round you have the Regional Semifinals then the Regional Finals and the winner of that goes to Austin out of region 3 Oops. My mistake. First one all day! ;D
  18. Jasper and BC for a trip to Austin. High school baseball...the way it oughtta be!!! Go Bulldogs!!! (Jasper in 3)
  19. The Dogs are certainly peaking at the right time. We're gonna need to pick it up even more next week to keep going.
  20. I've never liked that new logo. That Cardinal looks like it just got out of a bird bath in the morning and hasn't fixed it's feathers yet. I'd go with an LU insignia on either a red or white helmet. That's something that would never have to change over time...kinda like Michigan, OU, or UT. Keep it simple.
  21. It's a bad situation on so many levels. *Schultz shouldn't have sold the team to out-of-town ownership. He has virtually no chance of winning the pending lawsuit to get them back. *Bennett is a liar and I can't believe that he's getting away with this. *What kind of commissioner allows something like this to happen? Stern is an embarrassment. *The politicians here are ridiculous. An arena deal or renovation should have been done way before Schultz sold the team to Bennett in the first place. It's going to be weird not having the NBA here in Seattle and I'll miss it, but it never had to come to this. >
  22. This is pretty cool if you have a fascination with tornadoes. You can plug in a given state, county and year from 1950-2006 and see tornadic activity. It even pinpoints where the tornadoes were, their intensity, and any damage estimates. [Hidden Content]
  23. I'm not sure why Pastner leave Arizona to be an assistant anywhere, let alone Rice. There's talk on the LSU boards about him being a candidate for that head coaching job. I'm not sure he's gonna get a shot in the SEC, but who knows?
  24. There's a Houston native on that Arizona staff, also. Anyone heard of Josh Pastner? He'll be coaching somewhere soon, but I'm not sure Rice would look at him. They should. [Hidden Content]
