rumor mill---Indiana coaching job
Bulldog92 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I never thought Crean would leave Marquette to take the Indiana job with the Hoosiers likely going on probation, but he's a good fit for them. He'll clean the program up and they'll be at or near the top of the Big 10 very soon. Tony Bennett turned IU down, but I doubt he'll turn down Marquette if they go after him. He's a Wisconsin native and although he'd probably prefer to coach the Badgers, Marquette's a very nice alternative. He seems to be pretty loyal to Washington State and for good reason, but a chance to go home might be too good to pass up... -

They talked to Washington State coach Tony Bennett today, according to ESPN, and he isn't interested in the job. I don't think he'll stay here in the Northwest forever, but that's good news for Cougar fans. Here's who I think they should go after: 1- Brad Stevens (Butler) 2- Anthony Grant (VCU) 3- Sean Miller (Xavier) 4- Steve Alford (New Mexico, IU alum) They need someone who can run a clean program and win like Coach Knight did, but without the bristly personality. I like Stevens because he's very young and could be there forever if he could win there. -
Doesn't look good for LU Men and postseason this year.

I heard somewhere that getting into the CBI was contingent on teams being willing to guarantee a certain amount of money going to the CBI. I think it was in the neighborhood of $60,000. Even though that's a relatively small amount by today's standards, maybe SHSU wasn't willing to pony up. I can't imagine why they wouldn't have gotten in. They could have won the thing... -
Any post-tournament basketball is good for those kids. We all want to make the NCAA, but the NIT or CBI certainly wouldn't be the end of the world.

Texas fends off Nebraska rally for 70-66 win

Nice effort by the Huskers tonight. I wish we could shoot like that more often. Is it just me or does everyone play their best games against UT this year? Look at Tech...they got blown out in College Station by 44, beat UT at home, and then lose by 58 at Kansas. How does that happen? -
He could have had 5 hours and I don't think it would have mattered. I still think Gundy was more upset.... ;D

Nice win for the Cards. I heard most of it on the KLVI stream. It sounded like the joint was jumpin'. Reminds me a lot of the old days under Foster when Montagne first opened. -
I totally agree with you on the season ticket holders as well. I love how 1/2 the parking lot is empty because of the season ticket holders AND their reserved parking NOT showing up to the game. I don't know who decides how much of the parking lot to reserve but it should be about 1/4th of the amount they currently reserve. As far as big name colleges. I GUARANTEE you that Roc would schedule a home and home game any day of the week with Texas or ATM or even Duke or North Carolina. Possibly even a Big East school like Georgetown or Connecticutt but they wouldn't do it. For starters they don't have anything to gain. Secondly, the last Big East team that came here was Villanova the year after they won the national championship. We beat them by around 20 points so those Big East schools are too scared to come here. ATM and Texas have had the nads to come here in the past but they want us to schedule 2 games at their place to one at ours. After the way we've played as of late they probably don't want to come here and play. We would probably have to schedule 3 games at their place to one game at ours. The bottom line is that UT, ATM, Duke, NC, etc are a bunch of prima donna woosies that are too scared to come play here. And I would venture to say that there is NO WAY on earth that a Texas Tech or OU would come here because we could definitely beat them. Great post. If it takes going on the road to prove that LU's legit, then that's what they'll have to do. If Gonzaga can do it, why can't LU?

Somebody better YouTube that or at least get some sound. I always liked Foster and Abatemarco had a tough job trying to replace him.
-
The impressive thing about that is that he was high enough to have to throw the ball down to get it in. That's why he got the score he got. No one thought he dunked the ball when it happened. I thought his tip off the backboard from one hand to the other was the most impressive of the night...
-
As fun as that was last night, I think dunking is extremely overrated. I'd rather watch a player that can make the right pass, shoot the pull-up jumper in transition and make free throws over a dunker any day. There is too much emphasis on style and not nearly enough on fundamentals.

Lamar is now ranked 10th in the nation

I'll say it again...that was fun to watch yesterday. They remind me a lot of the old run 'n gun Arkansas teams under Nolan Richardson. 40 minutes of "heck". ;D -
With LU's style of play, losing Barrow really hurts...but they looked pretty good yesterday in that track meet with the Bobcats.
-
He can't dunk on Coop. That 2" vertical is just too much for Dwight Howard. Everybody knows that!!! ;D
-
Howard brought back the dunk contest and will most likely never be forgotten for that. Every dunk was something to see. I liked Green's birthday cake dunk too. Let's not forget that one. ;D

51-33 at the break. LU sure is fun to watch. This is the first LU game I've seen since Duke beat them in the 2000 NCAA tournament. ;D -
I think they're underrating the Cards and I'm being objective. The only way an SLC team is in the play-in game is if the tourney winner is not SFA, SHSU, or Lamar. SFA and SHSU are most likely 14/15 seeds and LU would probably be a 15/16.
-
I'll get to see the game from here in Seattle. How cool is that?!? Go Cards!!! ;D
-
Yeah...Dallas would be giving up way too much for a 35 year-old PG. I don't care how good he is.
-
It's obvious that no one's gonna come out of this looking completely upfront and obvious. There seems to be a lot more holes with Clemens than there are with McNamee, especially after the whole thing about the nanny came out. All indications are that Roger tried to secretly influence her testimony and that tells me that he's got a ton to hide.

Will the SLC have 5 teams with 20+ wins?
Bulldog92 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That would be a great accomplishment. I don't think there are many conferences that could lay claim to something like that. You can definitely see a dropoff between those five and the rest of the SLC. -

David Whitmore (PA Memorial)- Nebraska It's good to see the Huskers dip into Southeast Texas. Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend with the new coaching staff.
