  1. If Kirbyville really does lack depth, then they're gonna be in trouble. WO-S lost a lot of kids from last year and Jasper is just young. We all have our own loyalties and it's hard to be objective. Any one of them (along with Silsbee) can win this district. It's gonna be fun. ;D
  2. Like I said, there are flaws in the list. ;D
  3. I thought about both of those guys when I put mine together. Worster was a given at tailback, but I saw Davis play in Jasper and even though the Bulldogs have produced some great tailbacks (Oliver "Bull" Hadnot, James Hadnot, etc.), there was no one better than Reggie Davis. I left Jasper by the time Granger played, but I remember him more as a pitcher than a football player from what I'd heard about him. Drew Tate and Dustin Long were great QBs in their own right, but Dodge was the man at TJ. On a side note, Tony Allen is now the track coach in Jasper and I think he's also an assistant on Brooks's football staff.
  4. When Harlingen and San Benito hook up, you can throw the records out. ;D
  5. 1 QB- Todd Dodge (TJ) 2 RB- Reggie Davis (Jasper); Steve Worster (BC) 2 WR- Jacoby Franks (WO-S); Tony Allen (Jasper) 5 Offensive linemen- Jorrie Adams (Jasper); Ahmad Jones (Silsbee); Frank Middleton (WB); Marc Henry (Silsbee); David Whitehead (PNG) 1 Tight end- Shane Dronett (BC) DEFENSE 4 Defensive linemen (2 DT's and 2 DE's)- Red Bryant (Jasper); Bubba Smith (BCP); Jerry Ball (WB); Willie Cade (Jasper) 3 Linebackers- Eugene Seale (Jasper); Quentin Tezino (WO-S); Curtis Hafford (Jasper) 2 Corner Backs- Raefel Adams (Jasper); Kevin Smith (WO-S) 2 Safeties- Zack Bronson (Jasper); Will Gulley (Newton) ***After extensive research, I did the best I could with this to fill it out. I know there are a bunch of Bulldogs on here, but I believe most should be in the discussion at some level if they don't belong on the list. I also think Gulley was a corner, but I wanted him in there somewhere.
  6. Morgan's a younger guy though and it's natural for him to feel a "rivalry" with Newton. I would argue that during my days in Jasper there were several intense rivalries. WO-S was always the main one and we never even played Newton or Kirbyville back then. Long-time Jasper fans know that the strongest rival we have is indeed Silsbee and it's always going to be that way.
  7. There are several Jasper losses that fit as heartbreakers in my mind: 6. 1989- Silsbee 7-13 5. 1987- WO-S 0-3 4. 1984- Tomball 27-35 (4A Regional Semis) 3. 1983- Willowridge 6-10 (4A Regional Semis) 2. 1986- WO-S 15-21 (4A Quarterfinals) 1. 2004- Gilmer 47-49 (3A Title Game) Every one of those just stung. Jasper was talented enough to win a title every one of those years. Just wasn't meant to be...
  8. Dang it! Now that song's stuck in my head. The "floating" banana was classic.
  9. Yikes. Bad weekend for the M's. Everybody here was expecting Seattle to take two of three...but after losing five of six against Chicago and Houston, people are gonna be calling for changes. While the record would suggest that Hargrove and GM Bill Bavasi have done well so far this season, it's been with smoke and mirrors. This past week is a testament to that. I'm not happy, but on the bright side Houston looks much better than I thought they were and with the weak division can still make some noise.
  10. I remember the first game my freshman year (1988) against Forest Brook in Jasper. We knew all day that it was gonna rain and it started pouring right around kickoff. It probably rained 5" during the game itself and the field was a complete mess, to say the least. We won 27-19, which was crazy considering the elements. I'm sure every game in Southeast Texas was rough that night.
  11. I'm trying to think of which Jasper coaches from back in the day would have had the senses of humor to do this. Hmm...Ratcliff, Golden, and Spoon? They were all pretty funny guys. RIP, Coach Spoon. We miss ya buddy...
  12. [Hidden Content] The board's been dead for the most part. Come on back, Jasper fans and foes.
  13. You know everybody on this board is going to be loyal to their school, right? I would have liked to have been involved in Jasper as an incoming freshman in 1980. I never played football due to a mild disability, but I did what anybody in my position would do that loves their program...which was the manager/trainer role. In 1980, the Dogs went 8-0-2 and tied one of those great Hebert teams, which kept them out of the playoffs. In 1981, they went 7-2-1 and again missed the playoffs due to a loss to Hebert. During that two-year span, they went 0-1-1 against both Huntsville and Hebert. The following two years were two of the most dominant in Jasper history. Both 1982 and 1983 squads featured outstanding defenses and 12-1 seasons. Willowridge and tailback Thurman Thomas ended hopes for a state title in '82 and '83. Those years produced a few of the strongest Jasper teams that have ever graced the Boneyard. There are several in the past few years that surpass those teams offensively, but in those days the Bulldogs won with their defense. I believe that if the Bulldogs ever win it all, those defense intensive squads need to return.
  14. Shhh...if you talk about us people will notice...;D
  15. Couldn't sleep and listened to the show this morning. I listen to a lot of radio and you guys do good work. It's good to hear that someone's drinkin' the Bulldog kool-aid besides me. It's gonna be a fun year....;D
  16. I like Jasper being under the radar. Leave us out of the top 20, too. ;D
  17. That's a great question. There could realistically be five playoff caliber teams in the district and only three spots. I'm gonna go this way based on my predictions earlier in this thread: 1. WO-S 2. Jasper/Silsbee 3. Silsbee/Jasper 4. Kirbyville 5. Bridge City I've said already that I might be overshooting Jasper a little bit, so take that into consideration when you guys call me crazy. I think Brooks along with the recent success in baseball will give the Dogs a boost of confidence. Add that to a growing base of players and they'll exceed expectations.
  18. Why is that? They had as good a program (considering size) as anyone in the area. It's a shame that they actually get something modern that could further enhance the program and no one is taking advantage of it. Doesn't make sense at all.
  19. That's a good question, Morgan. The schedule is favorable in district play as the projected top half of the district has to play us in Jasper. If we can win a couple of those games, we'll be in good shape. I'll go out on a limb and project a 7-3 overall record and 6-1 in district. We'll struggle early, but with acclimation to the new schemes and the very favorable home schedule, Jasper will be back to its old self by the end of the season. I'm sure there are folks that'll think I'm nuts and I may be. I just really believe in Coach Brooks and have a feeling that he's about to put a huge stamp on Jasper football for many years to come. He'll produce one of the state's most improved teams this fall. Aug. 31 Livingston W Sept. 7 @ Barbers Hill L Sept. 14 @ Newton L Sept. 21 OPEN Sept. 28 Kirbyville* W Oct. 5 @ Orangefield* W Oct. 12 Bridge City* W Oct. 19 @ Hamshire-Fannett* W Oct. 26 West Orange-Stark* L Nov. 2 @ Hardin-Jefferson* W Nov. 9 Silsbee* W BOLD indicates swing games that could go either way.
  20. If LU could get one local blue-chipper (or someone close) and win big for a year or two, that would change everything and the best kids would consider staying home. I'm sure they attempt to get the best local talent, but those kids tend to go elsewhere. On a prestige scale of 1-5, Lamar peaked out at a 3 in the late 70's and early 80's under Tubbs and Foster, but we all know they've dropped off dramatically. One dominant player could change that and make the local kids take notice. Someone just has to take a chance on LU for that to happen...
  21. According to ESPN, the passenger involved in the accident Smith caused due to reckless driving has died. This is the same situation that then-Hornets guard David Wesley faced when teammate Bobby Phills was killed after a street racing accident in Charlotte. Neither Smith or the passenger were wearing seat belts. When will we as a society ever learn? I don't get it....
  22. I'm going to put in a plug for Livingston @ Jasper...as homerish as it may be. The Lions manhandled us last year and this game will be a good barometer of where the 'Dogs are in their rebuilding stage under Coach Brooks. It should take close to a season to get things going again, but anything can happen. Coach Brooks has a great track record in situations like these.
  23. According to KFDM COOP, 100 kids were in the weight room this morning. That's a great start and the Bulldogs should be a top-tier program again very soon.
  24. Sounds like Coach Brooks has made the immediate impact that we expected. With numbers like that, Bulldog football will be back very soon. Any word on whether there will be changes in the schemes?
