Can't start any better than that! Go DAWGS!!! -
Looks like Miami could get hit pretty hard by this thing. It's ironic that the scandal broke for the Hurricanes at the same time. They may not have much of a stadium to play in if that thing gets as strong as some of the models suggest that it could.

It's just over a month before two-a-days start and there isn't much chatter about the Bulldogs. Who's coming back? What schemes will the new coaching staff run? Is Coach Morgan the guy that's gonna bring Jasper football back to being one of the best in the area?

PAT KNIGHT to accept Lamar job!!

I like the move from the visibility standpoint, but I'm not convinced the guy can really coach. So, I guess that means I'm not so sure about this overall. Hopefully Bob will be around the program from time to time as an extra set of eyes. -

I saw a couple of interesting names on that list that I didn't expect...McFarland and Hunt. Both played on great Jasper teams. I'm not sure why Fred applied, but I know for a fact that he is passionate about Jasper football and wants to help get the program back on its feet. Marcus has a bright future in coaching and would have loved to come home. I don't think we'll ever know how it all REALLY went down, but it would be foolish to dismiss Coach Morgan's track record. Obviously, the guy's talented and knows what it takes to win. Hopefully he'll be around for a long time and we can all put this discussion to bed.

Jasper Hires Carthage DC...Garrett Morgan as Head Coach/AD
Bulldog92 replied to me2's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If what JB94 is saying is true, then people back home in Jasper should be ashamed of themselves. I grew up with Coach Mixon and he would be the last person in Jasper to interfere with what the football program is doing and the fans have no reason to resent any success that the football program has. Jasper has the athletes to be very good at most sports and any fan that would get involved in stunting the growth of any of its programs isn't a fan at all in my eyes. If Coach Alvarez can win big in Jasper and he wants to be there, no one should be opposed to making that hire. -

Just simulated the 1982 Jasper Bulldogs (9 shutouts in 12 games) against the famous 1983 Daingerfield Tigers, who allowed 8 points all season. It came up 56-52 Daingerfield. There's no chance in heck it would have gone that way... -
They legally have to go through certain procedures. My guess is that they already have a pretty good idea who they want. But if some super coach prospect comes in that they had no idea would be interested, I would think things could certainly turn in unexpected directions. Several years ago, Jasper "took a chance" on a 28 year old and he turned out to be probably the best coach Jasper ever had, and if not the best certainly the longest tenured at Jasper. His name, Gene Walkoviak. I would be happy to see them take a chance on some youngster with a Walkoviak type resume. I never heard him make excuses, he just went out and won football games. Once, when someone was moaning about a controversial call in a close loss, Walkoviak said it was his job to score enough points that the game would not hinge on one call, or one play. (I guess the Texans could learn something from that idea. ;D) Funny that you mention the Texans. Caoch told me once that he and Gary Kubiak are cousins...
-
How did the subvarsity and junior high teams do this year? If we showed something on the lower levels, it would indicate that Coach Bickham is building the program the right way and that there's talent in the pipeline. Keep in mind that I'm not in the area, so it's hard to follow anyone other than the varsity. No one that's followed Jasper for a long time is used to 2-8 seasons, but let's make sure that there's no chance that they can have success under Bickham before yet another change is made. Sure, it was a really bad season...but is it really enough to clean house and start all over? JISD isn't made of money and would probably have to pay a lot in severance to terminate his contract and a lot more to hire another coach.

Huntington vs. Jasper Game Thread/Jasper Wins/Comments
Bulldog92 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you know it was huntington then why would you even make a comment that it reminded you have the glory years. IT WAS HUNTINGTON!!!
Agreed. '03 through '05 are Jasper's glory years? No way. Look back into the run from '78 through about '96 when we ran the veer and played some defense. Winning virtually every year (19 out of 20) and being among SETX's very best created our glory years. Sure, there have been great individual teams since 2000, but there have been some really bad ones, too. We should be right there with WOS, Newton, and Kirbyville and we're nothing more than an afterthought. It's a shame and it needs to get fixed....
