19-4A Playoff Picture - 2 games to play
bh15 replied to shellman54's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This one is a toss up for me. Crosby seems to be maturing on Defense whereas Dayton is free falling backwards. However since Dayton has their back against the wall they will play tough this week. Gonna flip a coin and pick Crosby 31- Day. 24 -
Throw down at the Dirty Bay! BH Vs. GCM

I will stress this for BH to win this game we will have to hold on to the ball
10-4 Mr E Dayton learned that the hard way. I think BH will be pumped up for this game and finially have a crowd on hand to put some energy in the air!!! BH might make a statement in this game
most of the fumbles were QB - Center exchanges when the 2nd team was in. The 1st team offense was dominating tonight. I predict next week BH 35-GCM 10. 1st team defense gave up no points tonight :) -
Um thank you for making my point BH15. Lewisville won 5A titles in 1993 and 1996 which was 15 years ago. And they are the only one to do so since 1990 in either 4A or 5A. So I was correct it has been almost 20 years! I hate to cloud your guys judgement with facts! And go back and look at who was referenced as stupid! Quote from: mytwocents on Today at 11:30:41 AM That saying "you gotta pass in the playoffs" is about as stupid as the dance your lil indian does. Do you not know anything man? I say for like the fourth time this week, Liberty Hill who runs the same offense that Livingston and Vidor does won not only one state championship but two in a row while running a slot t offense. And guess what. They didn't pass much either.
Got confused on who you were referencing. Look forward to sparring with you if our teams happen to meet up in the 1st round.

I've seen them play, not enough defense, offense only one good running back to stop and not enough speed. Ooops did I say that? You will be looking at a Livingston vs Brenham game for sure, even without The Bull. Also BH or PNG could present a lot of problems for Brenham, don't no much about Terry, but BH is not the #1 4A team in this area because it was given to them. I can't wait for playoffs to begin, because that's when it counts.
So your confident that Livingston will beat LaMarque also? I will say again you gotta pass in the playoffs to win. And as potent as that running game is Livingston can't throw the ball!!!
That saying "you gotta pass in the playoffs" is about as stupid as the dance your lil indian does. Do you not know anything man? I say for like the fourth time this week, Liberty Hill who runs the same offense that Livingston and Vidor does won not only one state championship but two in a row while running a slot t offense. And guess what. They didn't pass much either.
3A football is different. Most of the star players in 3A are playing both ways and an offense like the Slot T will wear them down. Also 3A teams seldom have enough talent accross the board to shut down a good slot offense. 4A and up has the numbers to have a multitude of studs on both sides of the ball. Especially the farther you get in the playoffs. When was the last time a Slot T or one of the bone offenses won or even made it to a state title game in Texas at the 4A or 5A level? Been almost 20 years! Real Data doesn't lie. Now who is Stupid!
Lewisville won two 5-A state championships in the 90's with Coach Ronnie Gage. Same offense he is using at BH. I don't know how far we will get in the playoff's but I will bet we get farther than PNG ;D I would think twice before I called anyone stupid next time :o
I am new to the area, and my son is in the middle school at barbers hill. I just wanted to give some credit to the middle school coaches at bh this is my sons first year of football, and he is in the 7th grade. The coaches have done an amazing job with him, he loves football, and enjoys learning from the coaches. The coaches have been very motivating to my son, and the other boys on the team. In my opinion it begins at the middle school, and if the coaches have a positive impact it will keep the kids involved in athletics. It seems like to me that the coaches, and teachers who are at the middle school all over the state get overlooked, and it is all focused on the high school, and varsity team. I would like to thank the coaches at the barbers hill middle school, and they will not know the kind of impact they have had on my son, but thank yall very much. Good luck to all the teams as they have a game tomorrow.
Just wanted you middle school parents to not worry if your kids are on the B team or don't get as much playing time as you think they should. They grow and mature a lot in those years. Just some fun facts; Ryan Reuter and Wade Duke both started out on the 7th B team. Enjoy every minute of it. They will be on Varsity and playing and graduating before you know it.

Houston C.E. King vs. Baytown Lee Game Thread/Lee wins!

On multiple tiebreakers it goes to points. Crosby is -1 to Lee. (-1) Dayton is -18 (max) to GCM, but (+7) to Lee. (-11) Lee is -7 to Dayton, +1 to Crosby. (-6) GCM is (+18) to Dayton. (+18) GCM and Lee haven't played. Crosby and Dayton haven't played. Crosby is sitting pretty in those scenarios with only a 1 pt loss at this point. If 4 teams are tied for last 3 spots, Crosby would be one of those teams.
If fixed it in quotes above.
We can do this all again tomorrow and next week. I agree with smokin baby but he needed to add GCM in that phrase, too ;D -
one game at a time lad
We came out flat against NF and it showed. We had a little better intensity against CK King last week. I am hoping the offense will show some of the more exciting plays they have in their arsenal this week. However if we are successful running the ball down their throats we probably won't see them. Saving the exciting stuff for GCM and Crosby if needed ;) Coach Gage keeps his cards pretty close to his vest.
Looks like our defense can rack up some more interceptions this week. Sorry about Crowder, just like Jakari, I hate to see teams lose great talent due to injury. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I pray for my boys to stay healthy every day. There but by the grace of God........!

Baytown Sterling vs. La Porte Game Thread/La Porte Wins!
bh15 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No BH didnt look as bad. IMHO BH has to run a gimmick offense because they dont have the athletes to win otherwise. Sterling on the other hand has some really good players are the lower levels that would excel in open spaces with one on one opportunities. One of the freshman has already been moved up to varsity and is playing RB. I hope that the ones left at the lower levels stick with it, I am hearing again lots of grumblings about the offense from kids and parents alike.
May you please be ever so humble. I have never heard of a smash mouth, run over and around you when needed, offense referred to as gimmicky. BH runs the flexbone because Coach Gage believes in it after winning two 5-A state championships. It is still working pretty well. The record speaks for itself. BH 7-0, Sterling 0-7. By the way, I played for Al Dennis in the 70's. We ran the wishbone, then the Houston veer. Finals, Qtr. finals, Qtr. finals, regionals. No one referred to our offenses as gimmicky then. What we do offensively in BH is not much different. It still works if you have the athletes to run it ;D -

Crosby is weak up the middle. GCM loves to Run the ball in the middle. Best D Crosby has seen since Dawson.
Yeah and we put up 28 on dawson... so ur saying GCM is going to score 45 points? Also weak up the middle? is that a feeling or a fact. I hope the cougs see that one... i want a pissed off linebacker myself. p.s. Dawson didn't even try to run it up the middle.
no team will hit 45. 31 to 13 GCM. Fact how you think LEE won. speedy running between the tackles. Dawson attacks the edge against all the teams they play of course they are not going to run up the middle. Just cause you put up 26 on Dawson. You still lost by 30. halftime score was 35 to 10. 42 to 18 by the end of the 3rd. It was practice for Dawson going in to the 4th. GCM plays Manvel 19 to 12 at half. 32 to 19 at the end of the 3rd. It was still a game going in to the 4th. GCM by 17
Lol... question that manvel game... what the score end up? How bout that king game? "Fact how you think LEE won." Lee won with a very good passing attack, they finished the game with a Runningback playing QB, basically running a wildcat... GCM can't throw the ball and they're going to lose because of it. "Crosby, You lost to Lee? This conversation is over. Love, The Goose" You lost to King this conversation is over.
Yes, we did lose to King, but if I was from BH, I would cry foul on the refs calling back a TD pass that would have sealed the win in the 4th qtr. Refs said our QB crossed line of scrimmage before throwing the ball but video shows he was clearly 2-3 yds behind it. But I am not from BH so we did lose. Should have never been that close, I agree. Blowing a 17-0 lead in the 3rd qtr. Almost deserve to lose. You keep saying we cannot throw. We only throw if we have to. Three things happen when you throw and two of these things are not good. We choose to run if we are successful. Confidence is what they have always lacked. Seem to be riding high after this King loss. We will see... Good luck...
If you were from BH you would have been smart enough not to live in Baytown 8) Crosby by 14
Careful now, you just offended 80% of the people in BH.
We moved out of Baytown when we had children. I would think the reason would be obvious. In addition, there was a drive by shooting in the neighborhood where I lived in Baytown. The Baytown I grew up in the 60's and 70's has changed dramatically in the last 35 years.

Does Galena Park have a good running back that was injured? If so, does anyone know if he will be back this week? What can Galena Park do on offense to score some points against BH?
With the tragic passing of Matt, it really made me realize something... When it comes to football, and sports, we all get hyped up and trash talk like no other... We all disagree with people from other cities, because it seems like they don't know your side of the story. We all have our heated moments, and it gets the best of us at times. But I have NEVER seen so much love from our community like I have these past couple of days. When it comes down to it, we're all family here, we all represent SETX. I think it is easily the coolest and most awesome thing to see everybody come together, to remember and support someone they might not have even knew. Gives me chills to hear all the stories of people doing something to help out or show their support. And that, my friends, is why SETX is the best part of Texas. As a resident and fan of Vidor, I think I can speak for all of us when we say we truly thank you. God bless every single one of you... And Matt Thomas, R.I.P. brother! God gained an amazing one this week. Go Pirates!
Sometimes we all need to realize there are things that happen in life that transcend our differences and bring us all together. I just wish it wasn't always a tragety like this. At the BH- Dayton game there was an announcement that the brother of a BH player had just arrived safely from Afghanistan after serving his tour of duty. Both sides of the stants stood up and cheered. It was a wonderful tribute. At that moment I was proud of the patriotism and togetherness. Then the 3rd quarter began and it was on! Anyway, the tribute to that soldier is something I will always remember. I did not know Matt but I am praying for his family just as so many others. -
If this is how it remains, I could see a sweep for 20-4A over 19... ;) even though i won't have a dog in the fight this year. :(
PNG's worst nightmare will be playing BH in the ist round. And I hope we can play at the Butch. It's payback time. :D
Rueter is a good one...all three of Nederland's LBs have played pretty darned well themselves this year (Wood, Brown, Stampley)...Quirante from Vidor is impressive as well...BH had another LB who played well against Nederland, but I don't recall his name
I think Cole Sexton is possibly leading the team in interceptions and tackles and Logan McSwain may be our fastest linebacker. All of em will put a hit on you. Dolan #40 is huge and fast. He is only a Jr. this year.
-
Ryan Reuter, a four yr. starter for BH. They had him on the 7th grade b-team for one game then decided to let him skip middle school and go straight to varsity. ;D
-
Andrew McMillan of BH makes bone crushing plays all over the field and hasn't been burned deep yet!
-
Christian Thames of Bh has made all of his FG attempts, including a 42 yarder and has missed but one x-pt. He is underrated. Juan Carranco is by far the best HS punter I have seen in years. He could go D1 as a punter.
What if you have a team that splits there runs pretty much evenly between four guys? Do you count all the guys? Or are they individuals? And if they still make enough yards to be in one of the groups do you give them extra props cuz honestly they did more cuz most of the other teams have only one guy getting most of the runs. Vidor has 3 or 4 guys getting it.
BH has 3 or 4 also sometimes 5.
-
You can control the game 2nd / 3rd string / play calling but any kid on da field should be expected to go 100%. I have seen alot of injuries when kids are half steppin cause of a big lead.
I agree with the 100% effort. When BH gets up in the 3rd or 4th coach Gage starts substituting 2nd and 3rd string players. I am somewhat sad to see my son pulled from the game but I am happy for those backups to play. It makes most everyone happy and helps the jr's and soph's gain experience for next yr. It is especially gratifying to see 2nd string seniors get to play. Now, having said that, if the 2nd string scores, so be it. Thats football.
Eagles D played good but still waiting on the offense to play a mistake free game.
One of the two fumbles was on the CEK 2yd. line. We should have scored another touchdown IMO. It will hurt us in the playoffs. Running backs need to keep the ball in tight to their bodies and not try to stretch it out across the goal line. We only lost 1 of the 2 fumbles. Oh, I just remembered, for smokin baby, GCM sucks ;D
