can anoyne list the years of the head coaches at Sterling? I read something that said Hess was only here in 71. I am guessing Dennis was there from 72- ? Then you had Stafford 87-91?, Manley 92-97, Gandy ? Terrebone, ???, Minyard 04-10, Aduddell 2011
We called him Big AL. Hess left after the 71' season and Big Al led us to the finals in 72', quarterfinals in 73' and 74', and regionals in 75'. The worst heartbreak loss I ever experienced was losing to PNG at Lamar's Stadium in 74'. I think they won the state championship in 75'. I have always had great respect for PNG and their quality football and community. I still want to win one against them. I am hoping for a 1st round playoff rematch of last year with BH coming out on top. That is when I will feel like our program has arrived. Might even buy a t-shirt if we win. ;D

Nederland's defensive line starting to play up to size
Great game on both sides. Surprisingly clean given the amount of emotion and competitive juices leading into this game. Just a good old fashioned slug fest. Speaks to the quality and class of the kids on the both sides. Hats off to Coach Gage and his staff for making some gutsy calls late. I was very impressed with the play calling and the gamesmanship. BH defense was on the field FOREVER in the second half and was able to hold strong, even after having turnovers in BH territory in the 4th. This LB corps might end up being one of the best, if not THE best to ever come through The Hill. Keep getting better guys and be the leaders on D. Loved seeing the downhill tough running from #20. GREAT blocking and GREAT running last night. Keep feeding that fella the rest of the year! Great game Broncos and great game Eagles. Let's both make a run and carry that 19-4A banner deep into the playoffs!
Our defense is FOR REAL. Offense wins games and Defense wins championships. I think we will see #20 Tyler Newcomb playing at the next level. He made some long runs causing numerous missed tackles along the way. Tyler is also FOR REAL As a matter of fact, THE HILL IS FOR REAL!
That running back will not be back. Time to move on. It's not X's and O's. It's Larry's and Joes's. I have yet to see the coach miss a block, fumble, miss an assignment or leave a WR wide open. They are doing the best with what they have. If you think they are leaving some D-1 player on the bench, you are sadly mistaken. GCM is 1-0. Tied for first. Let's let the players play and the coaches coach. There's not much else we can do.
Do the players respect the coach and believe in his guidance and game plan? If the answer is yes; I wouldn't be so fast to blame the coaches. Could be sour grapes over another issue. GCM always plays us tough and they are one of the teams that make me nervous. I suspect they will play their best game against us.

I
Let Down Alert! Let Down Alert! Eagles stay focused!!! Lee is looking to be the upset team this year and it would seem that they found something that is working for them with their win against Crosby! This will be at Stalworth and the stadium should be packed!! Lee is a dangerous team right now with nothing to lose and one eye on the playoffs! Prior to last week I would have predicted a shutout by the Eagles!I still think the BH D will be the difference again this week ,so ....... They beat Dayton in all aspects of the game--offense--defense, Dayton was out hustled and out played. BH offense played their ball control style and had the Dayton D exhausted by mid-way in the 4th. BH defense was even more impressive--# 32 is a BEAST. When Dayton got a gift late in the 4th on a turnover, all we needed was a couple of first downs to kick a game winning field goal and steal the game with no time on the clock, the BH defense was having none of it. In all likelihood the Eagles won the District Title last night and I look for them to make a deep run in the play-offs. Congrats again. I love my Broncos but it is gut-check time now---we will see what we are made of. And that is how I see it.
Agree with everything but the gift part. #8 BH reciever got drilled in the ground and most players would of fumbled from that hit. That wasn't a gift - that was good football ! Funny thing is that #8 made the last TD that sealed the deal for BH.( Heck of an athlete)
That would be Wade Duke, a running back who just happens to catch passes thrown his way. #32 is Ryan Reuter the only four yr. starter on the team. He has always been a beast. Look for him in D1 next year. Thanks for the post, you are most gracious.
Not taking anything away from Reuter he is a heck of a player but, he was also joined on varsity as a freshman with #28 Logan McSwain both are four yr. lettermen.
My mistake. I stand corrected. McSwain is also the fastest of our linebackers. It is remarkable how good he is after major foot/ankle surgery last year. He hasn't missed a step. While I'm on the subject of speed, which everyone says we have none of, how about those tackles #22 Landon Sarria made behind the line of scrimmage from the safety position. Slow..... I hope all of our opponents keep thinking that.

Aint no tellin with the Ganders.
You sound like me with GCM. I also hate to see the Ganders downhill spiral the last few years. It used to be that no team really wanted to play the Ganders back in the day. You knew you were in for a fight every time you played them.
Yep, Drew Tate has thrown for a yard or two in Stallworth, for sure.
I understant that Drew Tate's State record for single game passing yardage was eclipsed by the QB from Channelview tonight.
I respectfully disagree ;D Next week might be our biggest test after an emotional win this week. It's hard to keep the level of play consistent after such a big win. Keep your heads on straight Eagles and go take care of business next week!
I am grateful Lee beat Crosby for the simple fack it will serve as the impetus to prevent BH's overconfidence. It is a reminder anyone can win on any given night, however improbable it may seem.

They were tenacious and brought the wood to my Bronco's ! I hope we learned something from this game . Go Luck to BH in the playoffs !
I have no idea why there have been ANY negative quotes about Ronnie Gage. He is a man with a tremendous amount of integrity and passion for the game of football. He has coached TWO 5A State Champion Football Teams while at Lewisville ISD in the 1990's, and he is in the Texas Coach's Hall of Fame. If you talk to anyone in the Dallas area where he coached for more than 30 years, you will not hear ONE negative word from anyone. He loves the kids he coaches and is committed to teaching them more than just how to play the game of football. He is teaching them to be good men. He expects his staff to show the same level of dedication that he expects of his team. He loves his family and is a strong Christian man. I challenge ANYONE who wants to call him classless again.
You are right on. Looking to hear more from you :)
The games I have seen... 1984 Nederland ends the 19 year drought and beats PN-G (it was my senior year). That was the first time in my classmates lifes that we lost to Nederland 2007 Lumberton shocks the world and beats Dayton. (the only team in the Triangle area to beat Dayton when we were in that district). 2009 Crosby FINALLY beats Dayton, and pounds the Broncos 28 to 0 2011 My son's senior year (de javue to 1984) BH beats Dayton in one of the best high school football games I have seen, and in front of the largest crowd ever to watch a game at the Hill, for the first time in the students lifetime. Congrats to the kids at BH. At all those games I had the "maturity" to take a step back and respect the thrill of victory for the opposing teams. This week at BH High School will be amazing for the kids. Through all the Bronco big losses, I can only say that the defeats in the long run made them better. In 2007 Dayton went to the semi-finals, and in 2009 Crosby ended up watching Dayton play football after their season ended. It's not the end for the Broncos, but it is a very big night for the Eagles. Congrats!
Good post. You are showing some appreciated class. Thanks.
