What's the score?

8-2  Second only to 13-0-1 in 1964.

Wow...how crazy is this game? But, Vidor never gives up...  Shows how well Mathews does with these kids.

[/quote] As far as I know, hot chocolate has been sold at least since the 80s.  And the nachos...they have to be the best nachos ever served.  I always joke that I need to find out when nacho day is in the cafeteria and show up for lunch.  I'm only half-joking....  I will admit to going to a game at half-time in 2003 when I was pregnant with my daughter just to get nachos.  You can keep your turkey legs though. :)

Any team can beat any team on any given day/night.  Football playoffs are scary at all levels.  One bad game and you're done.

Running up the score is classless.  This is HIGH SCHOOL.  Winning is not the most important thing that kids should be learning at this age.

[/quote] Very few.  That being said, I'd send my kids to PNG before I'd send them to Ozen.  And that is only because of academics.

I am pretty sure that anyone who has ever played for or against a Vidor team knows that Vidor doesn't lay down for anyone, regardless of whether they have anything to gain or whether they have any chance of winning.  They play hard until there is no time left on the clock.

Yeah, the JV's success isn't always indicative of future success at the varsity level.  In the 90s, Vidor's JV was always pretty good.  But, they got skunked at the varsity level.

I have some fondness for that 2000 season.  Those were the people I should have graduated with, but instead, I graduated a year early.  I went to that playoff game against Nederland at Lamar.  It was cold and nasty.

[/quote] I believe he became head coach in the spring of '98.  That idiot from Lumberton did not even last an entire year, if I am remembering correctly. That's a pretty good turn around - Vidor's first playoff berth in years and years and years was in the 2000 season.

I was in high school when all of the football players signed a petition and took it to the school board to make Coach Mathews head coach and AD.  His players love him, win or lose.  I'm going with him for 4A.  He turned Vidor's football program around completely in the time since he became head coach.

Vidor will always have a packed house for Homecoming, even if it is just people from Vidor attending.  There were quite a few times where they sold "standing room only" tickets.

Personally, as far as academics go, if I had my choice I wouldn't send my kids to any of the schools around here.

[/quote] Because babysitters that are trustworthy are easy to find on a Friday night.  My father has gone to every Vidor game, home and away, since the 60s (minus when he was drafted into Vietnam).  I've attended enough in my lifetime, even at 0-10.  So, at this point, with small children, it may be better for me to be at home with them.  I'm not a homer and am not particularly fond of the city of Vidor itself.  I'm actually not fond of this whole area, anyway.  I am a Vidor graduate and that's as far as it goes.  And it is true, I do hate PNG.  It goes far beyond football, though.
