I think I am a pretty good judge of basketball talent and I say maybe Yates beats them.  I haven't seen any of the boys teams play that WON state but I have seen a few of the ones that could have (Kountze, HJ, Silsbee, Bullard,Chapel Hill)...and I have seen the UConn women...IMO, no way the guys win.  The argument that there is no comparison between athleticism between boys and girls may be true to an extent but, we have all seen much more athletic boys teams lose to other teams because they didn't match up skill wise.  The guys may be bigger, faster, and stronger but those women can shoot, run the floor, and defend. Geno doesn't recruit egos either and this team has great chemistry!  OConn takes at least 3 out of the 5.
You need to turn in your "CoachK" fan club badge ::) ::)
Better watch out BLUEDOVE3 I know this lady well and she knows a little about the game. Many years ago when we would get pick up games together she was always one of the first players picked. She won't take kindly to you taking her Coach K badge ;D ;D
2. I heard they have already made the hire.I'll do a little checking and see if I can get a name for ya.I think he has coached both football and basketball for several years in north east Texas but that is strictly rumor.I know they had some very good people interview so hopefully they made a good hire.
3. Once again we're talking about the best womens college team ever versus 1 years state champions from Texas. This is not the best high school teams ever in the state of Texas just this years champs. You turn the shot clock off and give Gino the ball and he would take your lunch money. The Griner girl from Baylor could dunk the basketball at any time and she didn't exactly dominate the UConn club in the finals. These ladies were better than most are giving them credit for.
4. It is an advantage to have better atheletes but you can see examples every year where teams with sound fundamentals beat more atheletic clubs.I believe this UCONN club was one of the best ,if not the best womens clubs to ever play the college game. You wouldn't see this women's team turning the ball over on every possession like some folks think. You cut the shot clock off and these games with the exception of Yates would be very interesting.
5. Thats the great thing about high school sports, the players change but the established programs always retool. This year will be no different.Silsbee,HJ and Cleveland will be 3 of the top teams in the region but by seasons end the Tigers and Hawks will have some players filling the shoes of those who left.
6. No one will buck the system at WOS when it comes to the football program  ;) ;)
7. Some folks underestimate the importance of fundamentals in todays game. We're not talking about an ordinary womens team here. This club hasn't lost a game in 2 years. We also aren't talking about a college mens team, we're talking about 1 group of state high school teams.I'll give Yates their props, they were the best in the nation.I wonder how many kids on the other 5 state champions signed to play college basketball??These games would be closer than you're giving them credit for.

DC Stallworth will be my pre season pick to be the MVP. Sutherland will be the OPY. We will all get to go to Sam Houston again for a regional final to see which Hardin county club goes to Austin.dang, I'm ready to get this started.
As hard as it is for me to say this, but I think Cleveland finally breaks through this year and wins the regional championship.
They may be the most talented but they consistantly get beat on the bench.I don't see that changing. They are going to be extremely talented, no one can question that.

10. This will be fun to watch.Very good young coach but a brutal district and heavy losses to graduation will make a playoff spot tough to come by.Evadale and Buna both had good young coaches that were bringing those 2 programs around.
11. 1. Jordan 2.Bird/Magic (These 2 saved the pro game) 3.Kareem 4.Maravich (Give him a supporting cast he goes up the chart) 5.Oscar Robertson 6.Jerry West 7.Wilt Chamberlan 8.Julius Erving 9.Walt Frazier 10.Bill Russell Kobe will be on the list when he's thru but he is still moving up the list, he would be in the top 5 now.
12. The weight lifting itself isn't where the problems are, the conflict comes when you do it on game days. Most lifting programs are beneficial if done during the 1 hour school period but basketball players shouldn't be lifting on game days period!!!!
13. This guy can coach , regardless of what he inherited.Evadale will be pretty solid this year.
14. Prayers to the Sanchez family. The guy does more for ALL our local high school atheletes than anyone around.Get well soon Mike we have many more disagreements yet to come and basketball season will be here before you know it.
15.
I think Yates would blitz UConn IMO and it wouldnt be pretty
I agree with that but the other 5 may be a little closer.
16. They were supposed to play at Kountze but the freshman coach was supposed to be putting it together.I haven't heard anything else about it in over a week.PM me and I'll tell ya what I know.
17. I didn't say they would beat Yates, as a matter of fact I said Yates would beat them but there wasn't another team at the state tournament that would play Yates close.I would like their chances against everyone else.
18. If the post was about the best high school state champions ever and your average womens college team I may agree with your assessment but it's not. It's about this years champions and arguably the best womens college team of all time.Fundamentals are so overlooked in todays game that they are no longer appreciated by a large part of the fan base.I don't think you would see nearly as many shots swatted into the stands as you think simply because these ladies screen as well as any club I've ever watched. The pace of the game would not be frantic or fast paced simply because Gino would know he couldn't win that type game.He didn't win 70 plus games in a row and not know how to coach. If games were won or lost on athletisism alone the guys would win going away but thats the great thing about basketball, strategy and execution are the great equalizer.
19. I base my outlook a whole lot more on my observations than on Swags opinions.
20. If the kid I'm talking about developes in a couple of areas he will be hard to keep off the varsity.I thought I saw him on the varsity roster at the regional tourney and I saw him play a couple of real good games on the JV last year against Silsbee.I don't have a clue who he is but he has a lot of potential.Who does HJ have at the bigs??? And how many seniors do they have??
21.

ALL THEY HAVE IS THE NEW KID ..AND PERSOHN EVERYONE ELSE IS SMALL... BUT WISH YA'LL THE BEST......WE 3A STATE BOUND BABYY!!!!!!!!
The new kid is just a peace of the team, there are no stand out players on this team, But as a team they look real good, very balanced with size inside and a great set of shooters on the outside. After watching the games Tuesday with EC and HF, and I know this is just summer ball and scores dont mean anything, but this should be another good season for HJ.
If Gus and Sutherland are on the squad they have a couple of standouts. They also had a kid on the JV last year that was big and had a ton of potential.Something tells me you won't recognize him this coming season. He is gonna be solid.
22. Three schools in four years is hard to adapt to. I hope he doesn't look back in a few years and wish he would have stayed put. There isn't anything wrong with being a decent ballplayer in a small district.
23. The success of both the programs in this topic are the result of the system. Both systems are mirror images of each other from a philosophy standpoint.Truth is alot of good high school players don't have the total package to play in college regardless of the calls from the coaches.Devin will play on the JUCO level unless he improves his ball handling and jump shooting abilities. If he does that the sky is the limit.Jacolby has mad defensive skills but doesn't have the total package to play D1 ball. It's plain and simple folks, the kids that play at HJ this season will conduct themselves as team players or they won'y play. That's the way it should be.
24. I'm gonna keep those days penciled in on my calendar for sure.
25. I wouldn't worry too much about the summer league games. They are a good way to keep the kids off the couch and in the gym but stalling the ball isn't the end of the world.Actually it may be more challenging than the no defense ,run and gun you usually see.
