1. It was definitely a tough place to play.My kids all graduated before they moved to new digs but the games I've seen there haven't been quite as intense.
2. What concerned me in the HJ/Silsbee game was the type of turnovers. The crowd was intense but a lot of turnovers came on back door cuts and careless long court passes.I think Cleveland,Navasota and even Bullard will be hard to beat with that type turnover.Bullard had a PG that is going to be hard to pressure if they are still in the hunt.Kountze turned it over against EC without hardly any pressure. I think all 3 clubs have a great shot at the drum but I think after the second round they have to have less 20 turnovers to win.For last years Tigers Shannon was a great turnover neutralizer.
3. You can usually win with 15 but it's unusual to turn it over 20 and still get the "W" in the playoffs.Probably won't see many stifling BC type defenses in the playoffs  ;D ;D
4. That was it.All the inbounding team had to do was get the ball in and the game was over. The air went out of their crowd where I was sitting.I felt sorry for the parents in that section.
5. Yea that was my bad I didn't catch it until the thread was locked.
6. The latter would get my vote.It was unreal. Also the 1-a first round state playoff game at the drum in 2007.I'll have to look at my program to get the teams but a inbound pass at midcourt was stolen and a layup made at the buzzer for a 1 point win.You talking about the full range of emotions. It was unreal.
7. OK guys the board has been way to quiet.I have finally recovered from AAW and Lazeek questioning my basketball knowledge on last weeks show so heres the question. Can Slisbee,HJ and Kountze advance to the drum at the rate they have been turning the ball over?Silsbee and HJ both turned it over tons in there showdown and Kountze had 38 against Anahuac and well over 20 at EC friday. We all know playoff basketball is a different animal.I don't think you get past the second round if you turn it over more than 18-20 times. What do yall think???
8. I gotta check my computer closer,I had a couple of picks that didn't bold up or I might have at least been respectable  ;D ;D
9. TrueBlue everyone has a right to their opinion but I can assure you the Kountze club will be very good again next year. It's alot more about the system than the individual.I carried teams down there and played for years and every year they had someone to replace. When CJ and Powell graduated everyone thought they would be down and Walker and Brey stepped in to the spotlight.Let me remind you they still won the district when Brey was gone and Roman was hurt. They stay in the gym in the summer and it's a very well run league with Silsbee all the better local clubs always there. The little guy that is lightnin up the long ball was a non factor up until this year and he will be a force next year.Call Duane after the season and join his league and you'll start to understand.Bucs2010 has posted on here for years and always supported EC but he has seen this rivalry at its best and its not anywhere close to what it used to be.
10. Duane would do a great job at one of the Beaumont schools but to be honest it probably wouldn't be much better of a job.I guess I look at the game different,if the majority of your points are scored by Jrs and you still get beat by 25+ that's still a whipping. The 2 guards did a pretty good job last night but I didn't see anything that would make me pick EC next year.I've watched Brey thru the years in summer leagues, aau and school ball and #33 for EC has as bad an attitude as he has ever had.Walker and Brey both had tough games last night and the lions had 5 in double figures. It will be a different 5 next year.Kountze will be the favorite once again.
11.

And I watched Kountze Jv play last night and I dont see anything comming up So unless they get another Calf. move in I dont see them being anywere close to the top in Dist next year.
hey, whsalum, save this post and post it again this time next year.  Trublue just doesn't get it.
It's plain to see he hasn't made many trips to the Lions den.Duane will watch all summer and he will have them playing at another level next year.
12.
Yes I think this group for EC next year will beat Kountze by dubble didgits. In last nights game 32 of the 47 points were scored by Jrs and with out Walker and Bray Kountze is no better than a 3 place team.
If you really believe that I've got some land I want to sell you.Walker and Brey are good just like Busby and Powell were who followed Hall and Coffey who followed the Hancocks. You get the picture?Just go to the Kountze gym on Tuesdays this summer and you'll see next years`stars and you'll see why they are successful every year.
13. I have see EC quite a bit this year.I went and watched them because I thought from reading about them on here they were one of the better clubs in the area. It's great for folks to support their home team and more importantly their own kids but the reason they didn't feed the post last night was because the post play was not effective. For the most part the post players were on the bench.
14. Kountze is always solid but top to bottom this is the weakest I've seen this district in years.
15.
I did not mean to imply that the Refs call a unbalanced game just that they let it get ruff inside, and that is were Ec playes most of their game. They dont have the outside shooters to play with the shooters that Kountze has. They did a good job of shuting down Kountze on the inside they play just as ruff, but Kountze just out shoot them from the out side. As far as Dunigan not playing as big as he should you are right, but if you dont know this is his first year ever to play inside. He has been a guard his whole life. Last year he was only 6'3. He is now 6'7'' and it will take him time to adjust to the inside game and also he play at a 1a level last year the 2a teams are just a little faster and put more pressure on the ball. Next year he will be better perpared to play inside and he will lift all summer Ec will have a large # of Sr comming back so the streak of Kountze going undefeaded at home will come to a end ;D
I hope you don't look at this group and think they are going to beat Kountze at home.I have nothing against the Dunnigan kid but it doesn't look like he's played much varsity ball.He needs to work on his ball handling skills and shot.More than that though with his heigth he needs to learn to post up and catch the basketball. There is now way a kid at the 2-a level who is even 6'4" should be held to single digits scoring. Are Green and Carr coming back next year?
16. No doubt about it,this club has improved quite a bit from last years club.
17. I know 3 teams that would love to be in 4th  ;D ;D ;D
18. I have officiated with 2 of these guys in the past and they always are fair, like it or not.I saw one of them waive off a mid court bucket at the buzzer by one of my kids one night because he stepped out of bounds as he released it.They gym was packed and the game went in to overtime. He told me months later it was the toughest call he ever made but after I watched the tape it was the right call.IMO last night EC was looking for calls inside instead of playing the game. When you do that against Kountze you're doing what they want you to do and you're dead.
19. This team is very good but the difference would be the PG,I believe it was Coffey I'm thinking about that's all this group is missing. If they had a true PG they could take some pressure off McDaniel and they would be unreal. The short kid is really stepping up as a shooter.
20.
Andrews will get it right...props to kevin carr tonight.
Green and Carrington looked pretty good tonight at times.Kountze wants you to try and run with them, they will make you look bad when you do that.
21. EC has had a top notch coaching staff for years. They had a couple of kids that have improved since I saw them earlier in the season. They hustled and got lots of hustle points tonight.Kountze is probably closer to 40 points better than anyone else in the district this year. They got production from everyone tonight. They will need Roman on the floor though thru the playoffs or they may be in trouble against the better clubs.
22.
Kountze may be without a starter tomorrow night.... I hope for some that certain players better have a big game tomorrow night or crow will once again be served. When then bright lights come on, let's see if the good players show up.
That's how you judge GOOD players. They do show up in big games.
23. There seems to be a misconception on here about the power a school board member has in hiring a coach.Actually it's not as much as some of you think.A really good coach can turn a program in the right direction but ultimately it's up to the kids to get in the gym and put in the work to be successful.
24.
Just out of curiosity how many D1 Athletes have come out of HF in all sports in the last 10 years?  Not that many.  I am a coach and people don't realize how talented you have to be in order to get an athletic scholarship.  I can think of 3 or 4, and D2, D3, and Junior colleges don't count. What people don't understand is at the 3A level it sometimes takes more than being the District MVP or making it to the state meet in a particular sport in order to get an athletic scholarship.
The only thing I disagree with in this statement is D2,D3 and JUCO don't count. You have to be a great player at the 3-a level to even get a look at these colleges. The only basketball player I can remember recently that even got a D1 look was Donahoe from HJ and he was state MVP.
