The Sharks are struggling so far this season.I hope to get to check them out in the next week or so.

I got a chance to watch several of the pool games yesterday as well as getting a tour of the new school and all the facilities.The school is very nice and Big Rich's gumbo was off the chart.I was impressed with Bullard in the game against Kountze.I think the Lions have the best club no doubt but they caught a HUGE break when #10 fouled out on a questionable technical call.LCM and EC were pretty even but neither looked to be anywhere near where they have been in the past few years.HJ looked very good against a Pleasant Grove team that had obviously had just got together.You may want to avoid this grouo 2 or 3 weeks down the road.What happened to Coach West at Anahuac,I didn't see him and the Panthers looked to be down from the club they had last year.I think we are looking at HJ/Kountze 2 in the finals.That will be great for the fans.

I hope this isn't a serious injury. Daniel is a super ball player and one of the most respectful kids you'll meet.Whatever the injury is our prayers are with you Daniel.

Should be close if all Brookelands kids went to West Sabine but I'll take Spurger by 6. Spurger-70 West Sabine-64

I haven't seen many surprises so far on the season.Here are a few observations by classification. 5A-Memorial will be better since the new AD took the reigns down there. 4A-The Ozen faithful may have a stroke if they don't turn around.Central could win the district crown. 3A-Silsbee and HJ are where they should be but don't sleep on WOS or our neighbors to the west in Cleveland. 2A-Kountze is better than I thought they would be.E/C,Anahuac look to be be the other 2 contenders for playoff spots in that district. 1A-Spurger is head and shoulders above anyone else I've seen play at this level.Sabine Pass has started slow but hopefully will shake off the football legs pretty quick.Evadale has to be the surprise team in 1-A they look better than I thought would.What dou ya'll think about your clubs after the 2nd week???

What in the world is up with Ozan.

It's been a few years since I've called any games(the hurricanes made it impossible due to work) but I never considered myself a proffesional.By the time these guys pay dues,buy uniforms,pay for gas and food on game nights they barely break even on the small school games.Once you have officiated you watch the games from a different view point.I am amazed now going to different gyms and listening at people complain about calls that don't even know the rules.I can promise you any of the local chapters will welcome the help.

The Orangefield coach is doing something right because the last 8/10 years if you talked about o-field basketball you were talking about the girls.The young guy down there now runs the system and manages the games the ONLY way he has a chance to be competetive and stay anywhere close to the Kountzes,Silsbees and HJ'S of the world.If O-field plays the 2nd team all district players and new comers the entire game and try to match up with Kountze the end result will be very ugly.The question about the refs is easy.All you have to do to call varsity games is invest several hundred dollars of your own momey ,go to 10 weeks of training and then weekly meetings thru the winter.This entitles you to take alot of abuse from people who don't have a clue.Anyone who ask these types of questions has never put on the whistle and walked out on the floor where at least half the crowd hates you every time you blow the whistle.These guys do a better job than they get credit for.

HJ by 15.I think the Lady Hawks are starting to gel and they have some young kids who will continue to improve.

Kountze has a good club but it's awful early to be talking about not losing another game.They will have to pick up the long range game to get out of the region.Walker and Brey are playing above the rim and doing a good job but their outside shooting as a team isn't where it needs to be yet.

This used to be one of the premiere tournaments in our area but it has really gone down the last few years.

They played in it and won it Donahoes senior season.

Goodrich beat Hardin by 1 so I don't see this one being close.Kountze by at least 20.

I think they would love to know that themselves.

There is a huge difference between attitude and passion.I gotta say he controlled his emotions in the HJ game better than I've seen him in the past.Maybe he's finally maturing as a player, if so he can be very good.

I watched Ricossa more than hold his own in the game against Kountze on pure heart.You gotta like a player who has less natural ability and steps up on pure hard work and hustle.He could play on my club any day.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.I watched Hardin several times last year and Hunter was the only true basketball player on the club.I know teams mature from year to year but I didn't see anyone that was even close to Marsh or Nolan on last years club.

Silsbee beat Legacy by 60,if this is close the Sharks aren't as good as they should be.

They wouldn't be better than the club that had Marsh and Nolan on it.That club beat a very good Kountze club and Marsh was a difference maker.Is Hunter's knee letting him play??

I'm not counting EC out it's just that they aren't in the same league as Kountze.I don't think there is even a lock on the gym door at Kountze.

Hardin must be much improved from last year.
