Spurger vs Warren Dec 1........Spurger Wins!!!!!!
whsalum replied to court side's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I watched Warren on Tuesday(They were scheduled to play Wodville but got Chester instead). They play hard but are very small.Spurger will present matchup problems for them all over the court and should be the favorite. -
51st Annual Evadale Invitational Dec.3-5

You're giving EC to much credit.I think Kountze is the clear favorite but Orangefield is used to playing good teams and could keep it respectable against the Lions.Kountze wins this tournament easily. -
Who has the Best Basketball Team in Hardin County???
whsalum replied to swagg's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This question will have a different answer everytime you ask it.High school basketball is all about match ups and momentum.Plain and simple regardless of the reasons head to head competion tells you who is the best and right now that would be HJ.They beat Kountze who beat Silsbee.I think the Tigers have the most talent top to bottom but I wouldn't bet against Todd and his staff if they were coaching Bill's school of the blind. There is a reason he has those kids in the corner and FYI Ricossa is the most overlooked player in SETX.The sky would be the limit for some players in this area if they had his heart. All 3 of these clubs are going to be very good going in to December. -
McDaniel isn't a true PG and is inconsistant at best as a shooting guard.Walker is the the key to the Lions,he is the type of player that makes everyone else around him better.Brey is solid as long as he stays within 10/12 feet of the hoop which he did last night.I picked the Lions by 6 in this one but the Tigers would be the favorite if they play again later this season.Depth will be the biggest factor in the Lions getting out of the region this year. Both of these clubs are pretty dog gone good.

I got a chance to see Chester the other night and they won't win many this year. They struggle on both ends of the floor.

Deweyville vs Sabine Pass 11/24..Deweyville Wins!
whsalum replied to Evolution's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I watched the Sharks several times last year and they always played their best ball late in the game. That's a mistake a senior club shouldn't make.If they want to advance very deep in the playoffs they will have to learn to play 4 qtrs. -
I don't remember if it was Johnson or Tealer. He was their leading scorer against HJ but more importantly he made good decisions with the basketball at crunch time.
-
I didn't see Whisenant in your starting 5 for Kountze. He started against HJ and he is the Lions 3rd best player.I've watched all these kids for years and he is one of the most consistant players Kountze has.Size favors the Tigers but the Lions play way above the rim.I think Kountze wins this early season game.Silsbee would win it a few weeks down the road but Kountzehas had more prep time and wins by 6. Deweyville vs Sabine Pass 11/24..Deweyville Wins!

Not a good start for the sharks but Deweyville always plays well at home. This is definitely a set back for SP. -
I beg to differ, whsalum. I say Spurger will face a better team than Cleveland on Jan. 12, game before district starts. That's when the Silsbee Tigers will come to town to play the Pirates. ;) ;D
Re read the post AAW.It says once district gets here,Last time I checked Silsbee wasn't in Spurgers district.I watched Cleveland a couple of times last year and while they were young they have all the tools, especially the big kid on the block,he is going to be a player to watch as he matures.

I may have over estimated Anahuac ::) ::)
Where are all the people who swore he wouldn't ever put on a longhorns uniform??? Way to go J'Covan!!! keep fighting!
I didn't think he would play for the horns. Not because of a lack of ability or attitude but because of the academics it takes to stay eligible at UT.Hopefully he is maturing enough to appreciate what he's been given. The talent has never been questioned.
-
Dawg the Whisenant kid is the most overlooked kid in the Kounte line up.He shots the ball more consistantly and makes better decisions with the ball than the PG does, or at least he did on friday.
-
I think you're exactly right. The 1 nad 1 should be shot first and then the tech. The ball is awarded to the team that did not get the tech against them.Sounds like a young inexperienced official.

*HJ vs. Kountze Updates...HJ Wins/Comments*
whsalum replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Don't let this score fool you Tru.They are gonna be better than I thought they were. They made some bad decisions with the ball at about the 5 minute mark that they will correct.I don't think there are many 2-a clubs in this end of the region that will beat them. The only question I left the gym with friday was how healthy Walkers knee is.If it isn't a long term problem and MacDaniel makes better decisions with the ball they are gonna be solid.HJ gets more out of their talent than anyone I've ever watched and they don't beat themselves. This was a very good early season game. -
My bad court side I didn't realize I did it ;D ;D.What time does the game start???
-
I haven't seen them yet this season, their first game was cancelled and I went to see HJ/Ktz last night but Leon,Greeson,Sloan and the Harrington will probably be 4 of the five. Not sure who the 5th starter will be.I'm not sure where the scoring will come from but they won't suffer from lack of hustle or heart.Cris will get what they have to give and they should be respectable when they get their bball legs under them.I think all of them but 1 played football.

Hardin-Jefferson in the McDonalds Tournament
whsalum replied to Bobcat1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have had the opportunity to go watch this tourney the last couple of years and the tournament field will make the Lady Hawks strong down the road. This group is young at several positions and still looking for their identity but they will be very good as the season progresses.Good luck Lady Hawks. -
You're welcome sir.In the end the games should be decided by the players and this one was.The really good officials are nearly transparent when you start looking back at the games and this crew did a good job. There are some more good officials in this area but overall the 3 guys that called thsi game would score well if you evaluated the game. This was a tough early season game to call and a great game to watch.

PRETTY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
whsalum replied to HJ2012's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'm gonna see if I can be his bookie ;D ;D -
Kountze will be fine but they will see some pressure defenses along the way. They handle the ball pretty well but if they have a weakness it is at the point. If they can find a way to keep a little of the ball handling off of Walker(he's very good at it) he will be fresher on the offensive end and they will be a stronger club. They are going to be the strongest club on this end of the region but it's a big region and a long way to the drum.
-
Don't have the score but Onalaska won by 10.Warren will play hard on the defensive side this year but will have to find a way to score to be successful.
-
I will have to say Devin showed some signs of maturing as a player last night. In a pressure packed game he held his composure more than I've seen in the past.Walker is the key to this club however and needs to be a little more selfish when the game is on the line.
-
Spurger is the real deal this year after growing up last season.Where is this one at court side?? I gotta check this out.Spurger and Cleveland should match up pretty even with their post guy,the shooting guard for both clubs will be about dead even and the PG play for both teams will be solid. If Cleveland has an advantage it will be on their depth. They looked to be 7 or 8 deep last year.Great early season matchup,I'll go with the home team in a close and I don't even know where the game is at.
