1. utfan06, if you thought the officiating was bad in this game you know less about officiating than I thought. The game was well called and in the end it was in the players hands which is where it should be.Kountze made a few bad decisions late in the game which probably cost them the ballgame but it's early they will be fine.Whisenant is the most overlooked player on the Lions club(definitely in their top 3).Walker is a great player and probably needed to be a little more selfish at the end of this one.On the Hawks side of the ball Ricossa has improved tremendously and Turner(to steal a line fron Dennis Green)is what everyone knew he was.In the end the Hawks proved once again they won't beat themselves and that comes from the bench.Great game to watch from a neutral fans perspective.
2. I went to this game strictly as a neutral fan and it was well worth the money.A bench full of good coaches on both sides,as good of officiating crew as we have in SETX and a playoff type atmosphere in the 2nd week(gotta love it).I was also very impressed with the improvement Ricossa has made and Turner was just Turner, great on the defensive side and pushing the ball to the rack.Kountze has nothing to hang their heads about .I still would take Walker if I had to put together a club from scratch as my first choice inside and the Whisenant kid(I believe is his name)is the most overlooked kid on the Kountze squad. He shoots the ball very well and makes great decisions with the ball.HJ will have to shoot free throws better than they did last night to win most of these type ball games.Man its great to have roundball season here.
3. When you start making a list of the best basketball players at Kountze you gotta have some game to even get in the conversation.I hope Devin eventually grows up but I've watched him for years and haven't seen any indication of it.Walker is hands down the better player, heck Devin has never been the best player on his team , much less school history. He played with Busby and Powell early in his career and then moved to California for a year and has played 1 game this season. We've already ran the rabbit about UCLA football so I won't go there. One referall from another post said Kountze is back, they never went anywhere  ;) ;) ;)
4. Walker has been one of the areas best since he was a sophomore.I hope the knee holds up because he can be something special.
5. EC BY 25.The Lady Bucs are pretty solid and Huffman is coming off a thumpin by HJ.Huffman will have to wait a while for their first victory.
6. Mart was a perrenial power in 2-a,this one won't be close.I hope I'm wrong but this is a tough draw for the Rebels.
7. Brey will bring a lot of attitude to the game but Duane will keep the club where they need to be.If you try to block his shot down low you better be very quick or it will be a short night for the defender.I don't think you saw the type players last year that you will see on your schedule this year.EC always gets a late start because of the football playoffs but I'm gonna have to check them out at the HJ tourney this year.
8. I haven't seen many 1-a players with the skill set of the four guys I mentioned. The coach at the high school level is the most important person in getting a kid recruited. That being said the player has to have extraordinary skills ,regardless of the school classification, to even play at the JUCO level.I learned a long time ago not to put much in to the summer league teams HJ or Kountze puts on the floor. They won't even resemble what you saw this summer. One thing your son will see when he goes against Kountze will be very good defenders.
9. The Lions usually have a pretty good cook themselves  ;D ;D ;D
10. I used those players names to show what kind of player it takes to play at the major university's.These guys were the cream of the crop in SETX, all were great players in high school and could have had and in some instances did have pretty good mid major careers. When you get a chance to take a close up look at the atheletes that are playing D1 major college basketball you realize just how good these kids are.The HJ tournament will be a good event,it always is but there won't be a host of college recruiters there.I look for Spurger to have a real good club this year but probably not quite what Kountze or HJ will have. They will be able to tell a lot about their club when they meet Silsbee in December. If they play them close they will be hard to deal with at the 1=a level.
You have made my point, no matter how good of a player one is , if he is at a 1a class school he will be lucky to go to a JUCO. I dont think that is fair but that seems to be the way it is. I personally am trying to reach higher than that for my son. He might not make it, but it wont be for the lack of doing everything in our powers to get there. It is his goal to play at the next level and I hope this move will help him reach it.
It's easy to get caught up in the hype of playing at the next level but you have to be realistic. Some really good local players over the last several years have had the opportunity to play D-3 ball.A few have been good enough to go the JUCO route and the cream of the local crop have had a chance to go to the mid majorsThese include the Hancocks and Hall from Kountze and Donahoe and Netherly from HJ and WOS respectively.I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but the talent level it takes to play at the JUCO or mid major level will shock you.E/C has a rich tradition in high school basketball but it won't take a long list to name their mid major and above players.Don't lose sight of the next 2 seasons, they should be the best times in a high school players life.
12. Disappointing end to a good season .You gotta take your hat off to Centerville, they are very good.Congrats Lady Warriors on a good season.

15. I am a die hard Warren fan and we don't need to get in the middle of a EC/HF fuss. This should be a no brainer to predict.I will say the kids from Warren will play hard which is a tribute to their character after the season they have had.Hold your heads up guys and do your best, that's all anyone can ask of you.
16. There has to be more to this than just what we see here.My first question would be did the kids that transferred out move.If not they won't be elgible to play basketball anywhere. My second question is could there have been disciplinary issues with the returning players.I had the opportunity to carry teams to Spurger and Brookeland to play for years and have never seen any racial issues in either place. Some people may not agrre with Stapperts coaching style but I know the guy was crazy about his players regardless of there race. It's has gotten way to easy for kids now to change schools when things get a little tough.
17. Spurger wins it unless SP can develope a PG to put pressure on Spurgers D. 1. Spurger 2 Sabine Pass 3. Hull Daisetta 4/5=Toss up Evadales players move because they don't like the coach and West Hardin won't play for the new coach  ::) ::)I must be getting old,I remember when we played because we loved the game regardless of who the coach was.
18. Ghost, Do you have 6 seniors on your club???? If you do that's a huge number for a 1-a school.Whoever is picking HD or Evadale over Sabine Pass is reaching.
19. Why in the world would either coach want a warm up game with a club they could easily face again in the near future. These 2 clubs have already played once this year and could very well match up again in the playoffs.Regardless of who won this one it wasn't very smart to play it.
20.

The Sharks need to change that.I know they are senior heavy this year but there has to be someone in the Sabine Pass school district that could at least get the kids in the gym that don't play football.
HEAVY IN SENIORS???????? NOPE RELLY SMALL GROUP
How many seniors does do you have??? I just think the kids that don't play football should be able to get in the gym.Especially when the basketball has so much potential.
21. The Sharks need to change that.I know they are senior heavy this year but there has to be someone in the Sabine Pass school district that could at least get the kids in the gym that don't play football.
22. That's insane, what about the kids that don't football. There has to be someone that could open the doors. That's a start.
23. I think Woodville has a few more hitters. They win it in 5.
24. I watched the seeding game and didn't see any poor sportsmanship.I did see some very good volleys by a team that missed their best hitter.Let's not make more of this than it was.A seeding match between 2 very good ball clubs.Woodville will be a handful for either club so it wouldn't make sense to want the second seed. There isn't much difference in any of these clubs ability. The one that doesn't give points away will advance plain and simple whethet it's Warren,Hardin or Woodville.I gotta support the Lady Warriors but the other 2 clubs arevery capable of beating anyone on the right night.
