  1. And thats not a knock on the coach. The kids have to believe in the system or it's just not a fit.Lumberton is as good of an example of this as I've ever seen. The kids bought in to Credeurs system and haven't looked back and I promisse you there are as good a bunch of athletes in Kountze as there are in Lumberton.

  3. Not sure why the Lions have struggled in football, they have always had the numbers and the athletes to compete but have never established a program.I beleive, and this isn't a stab at any of the coaches, but I think someone from an established winning program could move to Kountze and do well. The pieces are there it's just the tradition that's missing.
  4. The post play will give Kountze the edge, Walker and Brey will make it hard on anyone in the district on the boards.I think Anahuac will have the edge at the guard spots and the coaches are both good.West has turned the program around on the bay.
  5. I had never heard of a rock-a-noo until this coach put them on the map.I don't know the coach, wouldn't recognize her if I met her in the street but I can say two things with confidence, make that 3 things. (1)Conditioning didn't cost you match after leading 2-0. (2)Any coach that has 900 wins didn't forget how to coach. (3)Look a little further down the bench for the problem,it's probably a downturn in talent.
  6. These 2 clubs are pretty even and this will be the last realistic chance for a W for either club.I think Warren will play this one tough being homecoming week. That being said it's a toss up.The club with the fewest turnovers wins by a TD.
  7. I think Kountze will be the favorite but Anahuac will be better than some folks think. They will finish a pretty strong second.EC may get the 3rd spot but I don't think they will be able to play Kountze or Anahuac close. The Lions will go thru the district schedule without to much trouble but they will have some problems making it out of the region this year.
  8. Rizon, I couldn't have said it better but these type folks aren't gonna do that. With the history of mid-county volleyball most teams would love to have that kind of tradition.
  9. I certainly can understand that,we have a very good shot at going 1-9 this year.
  10. This thread probably doesn't even deserve a response but here goes anyway. No one knows better than a coach when it's time to go.There is a tremendous amount of preperation and training that go in to building a team that most fans never see.The coaches have plenty to worry about without having to pacify the parents with trivial crap like this.JMO
  11. I was talking about the non district game against I believe it was Shepherd.
  12. I'm not sure Warren could win in the bye week right now.We aren't playing very good ball .Conditioning is the first problem. The kids play hard but are just flat out matched in the games I've seen. They always play Deweyville tough but realistically that will be there last shot at a W this year.
  13. To steal a line from Jim Mora- PLAYOFFS,PLAYOFFS!!!! Buna is the 3rd place team.Deweyville and Kountze will both play the hornets tough.Hardin had a solid club when Marsh and Nolan were seniors, since then they have been very average. You have to look at the facts and those are Hardin has took some serious defeats the last 3 games.
  14. That may be so.WOS always has some big name players that get national recognition.I watched 3 former WOS players on the field a couple of weeks ago when UT played Tech.I don't know any of this years WOS players but I haven't seen the publicity that usually goes with these kinds of recruits. That being said you can't compare the high school programs of Hardin and WOS.I hope the kid from Hardin gets completely well and goes on to play football on Saturday, I would just be really surprised if it's in Norman, that's one of the biggest programs on the collegiate level.
  15. I had 3 boys that did every extracirricular activity there was to do while in high school. They knew no matter what the progress report said if their grades slipped they wouldn't play ball or go to the ag contest or anything else. You have to challenge these kids in the classroom just like you do on the field,on the court or on the track. The really good coaches monitor the progress reports and deal with the slackers accordingly.
  16. The playoffs will be a completely different subject.Any time you have a single match playoff format anything can happen.I think(but wouldn't swear to it)that Warren saw Centerville last year and I know they are ranked pretty high so there won't be any cake walks in the playoffs. You are right on about the unforced errors on the serve. You can't give away points in the playoffs and advance.I've been very impressed with the left handed hitter this year. She seems to be getting on top of her shots and can really kill it.The serves seem to be called from the bench and that can be a big plus when you get the placement down.
  17. Oklahoma ??? ??? Come on folks let's keep it real. There aren't many players in all of SeTexas that could play for OU maybe none this year and that includes the 5-a schools.
  18. Makes you wonder what EC's head coach is thinking....what's it going to take to make some MUCH needed changes in the lineup??? There is nothing wrong with EC's lineup. I am surprised they are only 4-3 but even 4-3 is an improvement from last year. Look, they have played & lost to Warren (who is undefeated) and Hardin (who has lost only to Warren). The only surprise was that Buna beat them but Buna is not a slouch, especially on front row. They (Buna) can block and hit but only in certain rotations. I have a feeling that EC will beat Buna the 2nd time around. Warren is beatable as well. Anyone is beatable but if Warren stays healthy they are gonna be tough on anyone in this district. They have enough hitters they can keep at least two on the net at all times and that's tough on the 2-a level.
  19. The best quote I ever heard on this was from a guy who used to work for me.He told his daughter "No pass, No play" and then took it another step "All A's or No play".She went on to be a standout athlete and the valedictorian. There is no excuse for a kid not to be able to pass a high school course.atahey just have to hit the books a little harder when there is a question of eligibility.

  21. Use the fall ball for what it is.A way to get kids in the gym, which makes them better, nothing more, nothing less. Can't wait for the season to start.
  22. I've stood it as long as I can so I'll give a purely basketball opinion.I'm not from HJ but watch a TON of basketball every year.First thing you can do is throw summer games out the window. They keep the kids in the gym and that's about it.Last year in HJ and Kountzes first scrimmage neither club was impressive, a month later both clubs looked like the power they always are.Ricossa is developing into a pretty decent post player,Gustafson(I think that's his name) got invaluable experience last year and Turner while being the best defender in the area will also be able to collapse defenses to allow Sutherland to spot up for the 3.The Hawks will also beat lots of folks with presuure defense and Todd will teach them the game which is why they win so many close ball games. So here is a breakdown,4 good returning players, pressure defense, sound fundamentala and good coaching.Thats why their ranked. FYI:Cleveland deserves a look also but I haven't seen them as much so I'm not qualified to give that one yet and Travis will have the SilsbeeTigers ready for another regional run.Hope this gets us back on the basketball topics.
  23. If this kid is healthy he plays plain and simple.I don't know of any coach in se texas who would set their best ball player in a district game. That being said you would think a D1 player would make a significant difference in a 2-a ballgame.Gotta disagree about a Kirbyville match up with Anahuac. It would be close but Kirbyvilles schedule will have them ready while Anahuac won't be tested the rest of the regular season.
  24. What time does Jerry Jeff start playing.I hate to crash the party but Warren has a bye this week I think.
