  1. The Warren girls really looked impressive tonight. If they aren't a top 10 small school club then their are some really good ones out there this year.
  2. I sure hope H Davis knee isn,t serious.I was looking forward to watching him on the bball court this year.
  3. Alot of us adults could take lessons from this young man, best of luck on a speedy recovery.
  4. I don't think Devin has a 59 point play in his pocket.I wasn't expecting this much of a spanking.Devin may want to reconsider his decision.
  5. I was impressed with the new QB he will definitely help the Warriors this year. Not a lot of size on either side of the ball on the line which will be a problem as the teams we play get bigger.Need to work on fielding punts in order to be competetive this year.WH looked like they will be ok at the QB but the receivers are gonna have to make the plays, they had lots of opportunities last night.Overall it was a good game to watch between to pretty even clubs.Congrats to the Warriors on the win.

  7. Congrats to the Lady Warriors. They dropped the first game to the Lady Eagles but came back to win the next two. Lots of hitters on this team for a 2-a club.I thought the left handed hitter Warren has turned the momentum in the second game with several kills.I was expecting Hatton and Brent to play stellar ball(and they did)but the rest of the girls, Lewis,Burns Foster,Kelly and Spivey all played very good ball today.I haven't seen any of the top ranked small school clubs yet this year but this group could easily develope in to something special before this season is over.Woodville played very well also. You gotta love this rivalry.Good luck to both clubs the rest of the year.
  8. Come on folks let's keep it real. Devin is a good athlete but team chemistry is a huge part of the equation. Kountze will be in the hunt in region 3 with or without Devin but won't be a shoe in to make the final 4 must less win it.Anahuac will challenge in the district and New Waverly and Sabine will be a handful as well.
  9. I think you gotta have big hitters if you want to beat the good teams.I love to watch old school VB when the kids were taught to bump, set and spike on EVERY possesion.
  10. That's what I was talking about,he will attack the rim this year and collapse the D.That should free up some shooters.
  11. Turner played his role last year flawlessly. He will probably be called on this year to put more pressure on the defense when the Hawks have the ball and score as well.He was the quickest defender I saw locally last year in any classification. You gotta look at Blankenship from Spurger on the small school side.He won't get much press at the 1-a school but has decent size, handles the ball well and can flat shoot it from the perimeter.Lots of kids that were top 25 last year graduated so there will be a lot of young guns this year ready to move in to the spotlight.
  12. Devins athletic ability has never been in question, hopefully he has matured enough to play football. The PAC-10 may be a stretch because it is one of the premiere football conferences in the nation.USC is always in the hunt for a national championship and the rest of the conference is always right there. The recruiting stables in southern california will be full of 6'3" sprinters that would give their right arm to play.
  13. Court Side, Usually the only trouble the smaller schools have in this one is depth.I didn't go last year but usually there aren't any AAU cubs in the field.Travis and Duane put it together for the Kountze summer league teams and invite some of the clubs from the triangle. The competition is great and it will benefit the Spurger club greatly. After the pool games they could play 4 games on Saturday which is tough if you don't have a pretty deep club.Good luck and I'll come check it out if I'm in town this weekend.
  14. Warren returns 3 big hitters in Hatton,Brent and the left handed girl who was hurt some last year.Throw in a very good setter in Burns and several more returners off a tri-champ club and you gotta like their chances.
  15. One player never beat anyone unless you were playing horse.
  16. Schedule up in the preseason and it will pay off in the long run.Try getting Central,Ozen,Orangefield and Hardin Jefferson and you will start seeing some competition that will help you be prepared for the folks you will see in the playoffs.FYI E/C is gonna be pretty salty this year and plays almost exactly the same type game as Woodville and will have a girl or two that can shoot the 3 ball.
  17. Woodville will have a good club but will have to schedule up and get out of setx in there pre season tournaments if they want to see the type competition they need to get over the hump. They will be well coached and beat most of the local clubs with pressure defense but have got to develope on the offensive end to take the next step.
  18. I had the opportunity to play in the old gym at Broaddus in the mid seventies,if there has ever been a better 1-a club I haven't seen them. The talent there was unbelievable and the atmosphere in the old gym was tough on the opposing club.I have talked several times to Cris about the 2000 Brookeland club and he says those kids actually believed they could beat anyone at any level.I think they are still looking for the ball he kicked outta the La gym that night in 2000 : : :
  19. I haven't seen a schedule this year.It is usually the first weekend after the last summer league games in Kountze.Travis and Duane normally put it on jointly and it's always a very well ran tourney.
  20. The 2 usually don't conflict and it's a very well run league. You guys in Spurger would benefit from it greatly.I haven't talked to Duane about it this year but you normally have Kountze,Silsbee,Lumberton,Anahuac,Hardin,Warren and Big Sandy.Buna and West Hardin are also in it sometimes. The teams that are in it automatically play in the Silsbee tournament at the end of the league play along with Nederland,Vidor and usually several more. The competition will definitely help the smaller schools develope.
  21. The only thing they will have to develope will be depth. There starters will be solid.
  22. Spurger will be the best team in Woodville this summer.Players to watch will be Whittacre and Blankenship. They probably need to call Duane and get in the Kountze league if they really want to develope, especially the post players.Woodville should also be pretty decent but won't be in the Pirates class.Warren, Colmesneil and the JV club will be pretty even. The league will be pretty even and pretty competetive.
  23. It's a shame but there are a lot of very talented ,hard working kids that never get a look simply because there is a proto type player that most coaches look for.The kids that are in the gym at 6 am on there own are the ones that you could build a successful program with but a lot of them never get an opportunity. You can't teach heighth but you also can't teach heart and that's a huge piece of the puzzle.
  24. Spurger could very easily represent region 3 in Austin next season. They were young this year but really matured as the season went on.They will have a very good inside out game with Whittacre and Blankenship and a very capable PG in McGallion if he stays healty. In 3-a you goota like Cleveland. They have a good young BIG in the paint and perimeter players everywhere you look.
