I went to Lumberton last night and remembered why high school basketball is the greatest game in the world.I would have to split the heart award between the young lady from O-field who split her head open and returned to finish the game and Latricia Moore, who battled a severe case of the flu all week and showed what true heart is all about.The officials were great.The coaches both did a super job and the crowd was in mid playoff form.The game was a battle between 2 evenly matched clubs who know each other very well.It's refreshing these days with so many players that have the "ME" syndrome to see young ladies that have a true respect for the game.The parents and the communties of these 2 clubs should be proud of these girls.They are a tribute to their respective schools.Good luck to both clubs in the playoffs.

Kountze will have the edge but it's a long way to Austin and lots of basketball to be played to even get the chance.Probably need to get the area round games out of the way before we start talking about the state tournament ;)

Good job ladies.The flu bug has had this club devastated,good to see them pull out the W with so many players under the weather.

This one surprises me, I thought the Pirates would come out ready to play with a shot at the playoffs on the line :o

Guess the TABC knew what they were talking about after all...rankings look right to me!!! ;D Let's use a little logic here(thats dangerous sometimes)HJ beats O-field by 17 and O-field beats HJ by 11 and TABC gets it right.I'm confused.If both clubs take care of business on Tuesday I' quess we can put this to rest.

They won't match up well with New Waverly, which is my pick to represent region3 in Austin.

I gotta disagree.With Spurgers injuries they would struggle with EC or Deweyville,the way both clubs are playing now.SP was at full speed when I watched them last week at Spurger and they would do no better than 5th in the 2-a district.They would see a lot more pressure on the ball than they see now and I didn't see many ballhandlers on the floor for the Sharks.

NO OFFENSE TO ANY 2A SCHOOLS BUT THE DISTRICT DEWEYVILLE IS IN IS TERRIBLE ANY OF OUR TOP 4 IN OUR DIRSTRICT CAN MAN HANDLE THAT WEAK DISRTRICT I THINK MR GORILLA IS JUST JEALOUS CUZ THE SHARKS BEAT THEM THERE FIRST GAME WITH 2 DAYS OF PRACTICE HAHA BTW I CAN ASSURE YOU NOBODY WILL AGREE WITH YOU ON YOUR POST JUST GET THE BATS AND GLOVES OUT AND GET READY FOR BASEBALL BECAUSE YALL ARENT GOING ANYWHERE IN BASKETBALL Ghost,I don't want to rain on your parade here because 23aa is down this year.However it is still head and shoulers above 25-a.Anahuac and Kountze would win going away against anyone in this district.Warren has had a sub par season but the games they have won included 2 against Evadale,1 against West Hardin and 1 against High Island.Deweyviile and EC are playing better ball over the last 2 or 3 weeks so you may not want that matchup again.Neither district is anywhere near as strong as it was last year but 23aa is alot tougher than there 1-a neighbors.

Big Sandy isn't as good as they were last year,they aren't bad but i don't think they have the club to go back to Austin even if they are all healthy.Very unusual for a club with that good a coach to lose a big lead like that.Must have been a very young group on the floor.

HJ did take a ton of long range shots tonight.It's still very unusual to see a team press an entire half and wind up with 3 team fouls.Your better teams always adjust to the officiating and adapt,neither team could adjust tonight because the officiating was very inconsistant.All in all OF just played better tonight.Should be a dandy in round 3 if both clubs take care of business on Tuesday.I imagine LaLa will be chompin at the bit for a rematch.

Congrats to the OF ladies.They came ready to play tonight and HJ struggled shooting the ball.Never seen that many shots go that far down and then rim out.The game got ahead of the officials in the second half and almost got out of hand.That surprised me because these guys usually do a good job.The Lady Bobcats shot 24 free throws and I believe the Hawks shot 2 on the night.I know late in the game the Hawks fouled intentionally but the foul count was well out of balanve before that part of the game.Great atmosphere for the game and the bobcats are to be congratulated.They were in a must win and played very well tonight.

EC is the most improved team in the district this year by far.But they won't beat Kountze at home or on the road this year.Kountze by a dozen.

Coach Summitt has probably done more to advance the ladies game than any coach in any sport.She put her team in the spotlight and let folks know that there were some ladies out there who could flat out play.Her record speaks for itself.That's just incredible.

Hey whs, why were u sitting on SP side in gray? U could have wore some maroon & squeezed in over on the Spurger side We are always happyto see fans come out and your more than welcome to come grab a seat and get to yell'n on the home side we dont bite. Look forward to seeing you at some more games. Just look out 4 the little ones the will run all over you and mabey bust a ear drum or 2. I ran in to an old friend in the lobby before the game.A guy I worked with for over 20 years(my oldest son is named after him)He had a grandson that played for SP.I stayed and visited with him during the game.It felt like I was at a home game looking across the gym,I knew lots of folks on the Spurger side.I 've probably spent as much time in the Spurger gym over the last 6 or 7 years as a lot of the folks who live there.

I'm not sure we have a legitimate state playoff team in the area this year.Probably the club with the best shot would be Silsbee.I think Navasota returned several players this year so they would be a threat to the Tigers as would Cleveland.Kountze doesn't have the size or the shooters they have had in past seasons when they went to Austin.I think New Waverly or possibly Anahuac or Newton could beat the Lions before the regional tournament.Big Sandy is well coached but the talent level is down from last year but I don't know much about the other 1-a clubs in the north part of the region.We probably need a response from beeninnikes for that info.I don't see anyone from 1-a having a shot other than Goodrich.

This should be a dandy.Both clubs are playing well since the first match up.The Lady Hawks will be saying farewell to some solid senior players that night so they should have a big crowd.Plus they always are hard to beat at home.All the girls seem to be well now so I like the Hawks chances. I thought that call was correct.I was just surprised to see the kids from SP on the line in that situation.A made FT and the game would have been basically over.A miss and it would have went in to OT. Easy to second quess but will make for some interesting conversation.I was also surprised to see Spurgers kids on the line leading by 1 with .86 seconds after seeing what happened on the other end.

OK guys I started this thread back before district started.I am now taking my 401K and starting a book making service ;) I still think DWack wins it at the montagne and D-ville slides in the 3rd spot.Buna has won the 3 or 4 I thought they would and Hardin is ready for it to be over.Just FYI Coach Joubert is a great Coach but Coach West sat right beside him for several years.

Congrats to the pirates.This was a fun game to watch between two very evenly matched clubs.That being said Spurger was playing very short handed tonight.Whittacre couldn't go and McGallion gutted out a tough performance but wasn't 100%.Blankenship stepped up and is becoming the kind of player I thought he would be even though he was in early foul trouble.Spurgers bench also stepped up huge with 00 having a very big game.This was my first time this year to see SP and they played hard and had a chance to win it at the end just couldn't hit the FT at the end.Hindsight is 20/20 but they probably wish now they had pulled everyone off the line with 2 seconds left and the game tied.The worse thing that could have happened would be OT and Blankenship had fouled out.Overall very good atmosphere for the game.The officials were out of the Beaumont Chapter and I thought they did a good job.

I told ya from the get go these 2 would split the home games and play for seeding at the Montagne.I gotta disagree with KHSAlum400.I actually think Anahuac has the better club this year.Not by much but they shoot the ball a little better than the Lions , other than that they look like 2 clubs playing in a mirror.Should be a great game to watch.

I'm not sure this is the kind of foundation LSC-PA needs to develope a winning tradition.In todays basketball market there has to be major reasons a kid with this talent isn't playing.I'm all for the Seahawks recruiting top line players but if they want to be successful they may need to look at the total package.

I really have never seen the high school principal ejected from a basketball game.I've missed some this year but have been to all of them over the past 4 years.My previous post referenced 3 seperate games where I have seen people ejected in Spurger.Three coaches from Warren,a lady from WH and a gentleman from Spurger.Maybe that's not an unusual number but it's more than I've seen anywhere else.I certainly wasn't blaming officials about last years game because the team without the coach won.Didn't mean to get the thread hi jacked.Good luck to all the 25-A clubs in the second half.Hope to see you Tuesday court side ,I'll buy you a coke to show theres no hard feelings.

You are absolutely correct.I don't think there are any names on a possible playoff preview except Kountze,they are already in the drivers seat.The rest is just fans talking.I think we will see a playoff preview matching some of the top 2-a clubs against some top 3-a clubs and I think the Kountze coach will be the one putting it together.We need to tip our cap to him if he pulls it off.I know Coach Sims isn't looking past BC,OF and HF at this point of the season.

Let's keep our facts straight here courtside.The coach last year was ejected once and that was at Spurger.As a matter of fact the head guy and 2 assistants were ejected once last year and ALL 3 were at Spurger.The high school principal has never been ejected,not sure where you got that one but you really should have checked before you posted it.I didn't start the questioning of the referees here I just had an observation.Once again,if I have said anything in my previous post that isn't factual please let me know and I'll delete it.
