  1. Didn't Jasper just win on a neutral floor? I think your predicting with your heart and not your head in this one Dawg.Jasper WILL shoot the 3 well at home and Kountze is not shooting the long ball well at all so far this season.Jasper wins this one by 5.
  2. I have a son who attends UT,he was the class valedictorian ;D ;D ;D, but to answer your quetion UT does have developemental classes for incoming freshmen and actually require you to take at least 1.Austin Community College is a great place to get some of your elective courses out of the way. They won't figure in on his UT GPA but the would be hours toward his degree. He will really have to buckle down on the studies to be able to play and stay eligible.
  3. HD is still the pick in my opinion but I gotta admit HI has been better than I thought they would be.Evadale has fell off the map and WH new guys can't be anywhere near as good as advertised.I got HD and Spurger neck and neck for the top spot and SP and HI in a dogfight for the 3rd spot ;)
  4. Good showing for the Pirates.Really comes at a good time for a young club. This gives them 4 in a row and will help their confidence. They should start to pick it up now and will be pretty dog gone good by the time their tourney is over.Them and HD should have an interesting matchup in district.Congras Pirates
  5. This has been one of the best Basketball districts in the state over the last 8-10 years. What in the heck is going on this year.Anahuac is the only club with a winning record at 4-2.Kountze has a sub 500 record but they are playing pretty good clubs. The rest of the clubs are a combined 6/25.Looks like a tough season in this district. After watching the weekend tournaments I gotta revisit my picks. What do yall think?? 1-Anahuac-If they keep their players healthy and elgible they could win it. 2-Kountze-They are getting beat by good clubs.Need to get Walker back on the block. 3-Deweyville-Gets the 3rd spot if Caswell stays healthy. They are beating the folks they should beat. 4-EC-Most disappointing so far.A couple of solid players but are getting beat by teams they shouldn't. 5-Warren-Very inconsistant. Can play with 3 thru 7 or get beat by 30 you never know with this group. 6-Buna-They finally escape the cellar. 7-Hardin-I knew they would miss Marsh,Noland and Davis but I didn't see this coming. I think Anahuac and Kountze will split. The rest of the clubs will beat each other up and the 3rd place club could easily have 6 losses.Unfortunately I don't see a deep playoff run this year for anyone of these clubs.New Waverly and Newton get the nod to get to the regional tourney from this area. :-\ :-\ :-\
  6. :o :o :o Anahuac may be the favorite in 23-aa.Huntsville usually has a good club ;)
  7. I can't believe this topic keeps coming up.The last thing a coach who is trying to develope a program needs is a piece to the foundation like this. The young man is an incredible talent who has chosen not to put forth the necessary work on or off the court to be the player he is capable of being.I quess I'm just old school but during the Thanksgiving holidays I don't think this is gonna be on the top of my prayer list.
  8. I think we're saying the same thing in a different language court.I'm just trying to caution some of the Spurger faithful about setting their expectations to high for a young club.I watch Spurger as often as I can when they are playing pretty good teams and know sometimes their fans can be pretty hard on em.It will be tough for them to get back to the regional tournament this year but they are headed in the right direction.
  9. I must have had the wrong # for Zay,I think I had him as #3.At any rate 3 or 30 missed 4 or 5 in a row.Domingo fouled out with 2:55 left in the 3rd.#22 with 3:04 left in the 4th,Mc Daniel(if I have his # right with 1:32 in the 4th,Walker with around 2:00 in the 4th.All that being said Kountze played pretty well just a little out of control early, which led to a 13 point deficit in the 1st caused by some turnovers. They will be the class of 2-a but Silsbee and HJ are the better small school clubs.
  10. It simply means a lot of the kids who are going to lead this club were not on the floor last year. The majority of the time they were watching from the sideline. And several were playing the early game on the JV club. This club will develope but they are very young and will have some growing pains. They need to be patient because it's easy for a young club to get down on themselves.
  11. I don't know Justin Poor but if he is anywhere near as good as Tyler then WH will win this district.Has this kid ever played around here,I've never heard of him.
  12. Kountze may get back to Austin but I don't see it this year.McDaniel is gonna be a player but right now his inexperience is hurting him.He missed 4 or 5 free throws in a row on Tuesday in a crucial time.I hope the Lions do well this season but I think they are gonna have a tough time getting out of region 3.
  13. They'll have some growing pains but they'll be fine in the long run. There is a huge difference in playing at 7 vs 5:30 or watching a talented senior club from the bench.Give em a little time to develop and they will turn some heads.
  14. While I am partial to shooters I have to admit Copeland does alot more than just hang around and shoot 3's.The last game I charted on him last year he was 13-15 from the free throw line and scored 33 points while only hitting 2-3's.Most of his points came on the drive. It will be great if the Oilers get him some help and he will score on anyone in this distrct in the paint or on the perimeter. It will be important for the Oilers not to take him out of his game just because he's 6'3".If they space the floor Copeland can score at will.
  15. Letsinger had Copeland,Simmons and Hashaw to help him so I don't see them being quite that good but if Copeland gets a little help they could definitely win this district.
  16. I didn't make it to this one,I went to check out Kountze and HJ but I hear both teams struggled shooting the ball.It was a 1 point game at the half but Woodville pulled away in the second half.I heard several of the Warren folks compliment Riley on his play in the paint but the outside game wasn't there on Tuesday.
  17. At Anahuac it will be closer than we think. That is a tough place for the visitors to play.
  18. I was an unbiased observer in this game guys and I hate to tell ya but the officiating was pretty darn good overall.Having officated some in the past I watch the games sometimes from a little different perspective and these guys did a good job overall. There will always be a few missed calls along the way but this crew was not from Sour Lake and called a fair game.Kountze fouled players out because they play a very physical press and trap defense, that's not the officials fault. The one call I saw that was questionable was a 3 second call against HJ right before the 1st half was over .Other than that it was a solid effort by one of the Beaumont Chapters best crews.
  19. The type defense Kountze plays they will always be in foul trouble with a good group of officials. They normally get away with a ton of fouls at home and not so many on the road.Kountze has the deeper club of these two but HJ has three of the top four players if you combine the rosters.Kountze scores off their defense and it doesn't affect your better ball handling clubs.Other than Walker Kountze doesn't have a go to guy in the shooters hole and their free throw shooting isn't real good. All that being said they are still the best 2-a club locally but will have to step it up big time to beat New Waverly or Newton this year.If Kountze and HJ play 10 times HJ wins 8.Sorry Dawg most of the time I agree with ya but this club isn't where you want them to be yet, they may get their before the season is over.
  20. I heard Woodville won by 11 I think.50-39
  21. That's what you need to build a program around.Geez, build the program on a solid foundation and you'll have a long term solution.
  22. Gotta go with the Tigers in this one by 10. Silsbee-80 Kountze-70
  23. I wasn't charting but I knew he was on ,especially in the 4th.Kountze struggled during that same time span at one time missing 5 ft in a row.
  24. HJ-64 Liberty-28 A real balanced effort tonight by the Lady Hawks after Moore got in early foul trouble and sat out the 2nd quarter. The big girls played well on the boards and one of the girls off the bench shot the ball well tonight. The Hawks have a couple of players who are banged up so the holidays will probably come at a good time for them.Overall a pretty impressive showing.I think the JV group could have scored 100 tonight, they lit it up.
