  1. HJ handled LCM in a scrimmage this afternoon.HJ started a little slow but finished strong.LCM looks to be improved over last year. The Hawks will be fine once the cobwebs come off.
  2. Kountze is in a league of there own this year,Anahuac takes second and EC is probably a distant third. The district overall will be down considerably from last year.
  3. Final: Hardin-49 Warren-22 Hardin played well tonight and Warren continiues to turn the ball over way to much to win.I think they turned it over 5 times tonight.Hats off to Brandon Young he's playing some really good football on both sides of the line of scrimmage.Kids are playing hard just a little short handed.
  4. You gotta hate that for the young man.He showed tremendous improvement at the end of last season.Hope he heals and is able to play his senior season. That will cripple the Hornets chances for a playoff spot this year.
  5. I don't think either of these clubs have been tested yet. Both clubs 2 wins have came against Kountze and Warren. Both played Kountze pretty close while Buna handed Warren a pretty big loss.I think Buna wins this game at home pretty convincingly and sets up a showdown with Anahuac for the title. Buna-28 Deweyville-7
  6. warren has lot its entire starting five from last year i think it will down year for warren basketball. Who do they have? The only definite starters for warren will be Blake Riley, Brandon Young, Cody Andrews, and James Blackshear.. the other starting position is not determined yet.. I don't think there are any definite starters a month before practice starts. While the 4 you named have a good shot at starting the Greeson kid was probably the best team player on the club this past summer. For this group be competetive they will have to learn to play team basketball and that will start with setting screens to get Blackshear and Andrews open.
  7. Nitro,I think it's great you have confidence in your club.I don't have any ties to anyone in this district other than finding the best game and going to watch. If SP graduated 2 starters and are depending on kids moving from the JV off a club that didn't make the playoffs they are probably a long shot at best.I think HD/WH and Spurger are the playoff clubs out of this district. Not real sure of the order because I don't know how WH role players developed over the summer but I'm leaning toward HD to win it.
  8. This is exactly what my post said. The top 2 scorers were Phillip and JT while Pate was very good on the defensive end.George may develop into the best of the Whittacre boys but it will take a little time and Blankenship has a ton of potential. The thing Spurger will miss will be the senior leadership that you only get from playing. When the shots weren't falling last year from the arc they could depend on Phillip to steady the ship.I really believe they will have a good club this year,I just think the folks in the stands need to realize they are gonna be young and will have some bumps. While the new young coach will do a good job you have to respect what Stappert did.He took the Pirates to one game of the state tournament and that will be hard to duplicate.
  9. Spurger didn't just lose 1 player. They lost 3 starters and there top 2 scorers.Whittakers loss will be tough on them because he was the steady force in the middle. Both the Sheffield kids could score on the perimeter and play pretty good defense. This years club will have lots of potenetial but don't expect them to go undefeated in district play. When you start that many sophomores you will have some growing pains. The best player in the district resides in Saratoga and HD will be improved also with a year under there coach. If Sabine Pass didn't get some move ins I don't see them as a threat to make the playoffs.Spurger also lost a pretty good coach but the young guy they got will do well over there.
  10. Young will be a real aggressive defender but usually stays in foul trouble as a result.Brandon has all the tools if he just lets the game come to him he could be pretty darn good. Not sure where the points will come from with this group. They are gonna be pretty small so coming off the screens may be a problem. If they learn to set solid pics and free Cody up he can shoot the open 3.I think there 2 biggest challenges will be defense and rebounding and they will learn quick,if you don't do those 2 it's hard to win.I hope they do well this year,I'll be watching and yelling for em.
  11. Even with Brey you may have the Lions picked a little high. While Devin is a pretty good player with a lot of potential,Roman Walker is the steadying force behind the Lions. You may want to look at New Waverly and Newton as some pre season favorites in region 3 this year.New Waverly made it to the state tournament last year and Newton has improved drastically over the past 2 years and has a very solid big guy now in the middle.
  12. warren has lot its entire starting five from last year i think it will down year for warren basketball. Who do they have? Warren will probably start very slow because everyone they have except Cody plays football. They didn't get much playing time last year and didn't play a whole lot over the summer so no one knows how they will do.You will probably have Andrews,Young,Blackshear,Riley and Scritchfield or Greeson starting.Greeson has a lot of potential and the younger Blackshear boy may also get some minutes.I haven't seen a schedule so I couldn't say what kind of record would be feasible.
  13. .Spurger will be young and may take awhile to get used to not having Whittaker and Sheffield, they do have some excellent young players but may be a year away from being a legitamate threat. Spurger is doing good the have the same team as last year and like he said we did lose 2 starters! but the rest of the team is the same and is doing great, but i wish I could say the same about our JV lol their not doing so good! It's not always the number of starters you lose but the caliber of players.Phillip Whittaker was the heart and soul of the pirates last year and both the Sheffield kids started when I saw them.Between those 3 players they carried the bulk of scoring for the Pirates.I enjoy watching Spurger and look for George and his classmates to do well just don't expect to much to quick. They will be solid but will go through some growing pains this year at times.
  14. If you would have stopped at the comma your statement would have had some merit. The kids play hard, just leave it at that.Warren has some speed this year and some pretty solid players at the skill positions but they are very young on the line of scrimmage and not real big either. Not a whole lot a coach can do about that.Read the stats and you will find the reason the Warriors came up short in this one,if you turn it over 5 times you probably aren't going to win regardless of who the coach is. P.S. There are some GREAT small school coaches in Southeast Texas. ;)
  15. I think everyone is overlooking Buna. They are the defending co champs and are undefeated so they have to be the favorites.I think Buna wins this one 32-14 and sets up a showdown with Dwack for the crown.
  16. I had the opportunity to watch McKinney and the Wildcats a lot throughout the summer and during the season last year.Big Sandy will be a good club but a strong post man is what seperates to the pretty good teams from the very good ones.McKinney was the leader of that club plain and simple. If he had stayed healthy throughout the playoffs last year BS would have came out of the drum with the gold.BS is very well coached and will play great defense and shoot the ball well, the question mark about them will be on the boards. If they can replace Mckinney there they will be legit but that will be tough to do.
  17. Congrats Lady Warriors. These young ladies are getting everyone healthy and seem to be peaking at a good time.Hope to get to catch a couple of games next week.
  18. Roman Walker will be the best in the district hands down.Kountze also has a kid (not sure of his name)that will be a sophomore that can flat out shoot the trey. Hunter Davis from Hardin will be solid but won't have a lot of help' Donte Raymond and Carrington will be solid for the Bucs. Anahuac has a couple of very talented kids if they don't have problems staying eligible. Deweyville has the the sleeper in the district in Caswell. I look for Kountze to win the district while Anahuac gets the second spot and E/C slides in the playoffs at the 3.
  19. You may want to go to Hardin County if you are new to the area to see some good basketball.Hardin Jefferson,Silsbee and Kountze will all 3 be pretty entertaining.Tyler County will have 5 teams ,Woodville,Spurger,Warren,Colmesneil and Chester. While I don't know much about Colmesneil or Chester except that they aren't normally known for there basketball clubs the other 3 took some huge hits from graduation last year.Woodville has always had talent but they seem to put the football program ahead of everything else.Spurger will be young and may take awhile to get used to not having Whittaker and Sheffield, they do have some excellent young players but may be a year away from being a legitamate threat.Warren returns one letterman but will likely start 4 seniors so they will have to learn on the court.Overall I think Tyler County will be down a little this year on the hardwood.I also think Polk county will miss McKinney more than they realize,he was the MAN at Big Sandy ;)
  20. I don't think the definition of a great program can be judged on wins and losses. For example a recent boys program had multiple state titles but couldn't get the kids on the bus to make the trip home.So you had a great team but a program that lacked a lot to be desired.Using this analogy you have several great programs in the state that have never won a state title.Which brings up another debate.Would you rather have a great program or a great team? ;)
  21. Buna shouldn't be a sleeper. They gotta be the favorite with a huge offensive line and solid running game.I think they win it followed by Anahuac and E/C.Everyone else is close so some upsets could shake it up even more.
  22. This was a great game to watch. Two very evenly matched clubs and about as good a small school crowd as I've seen at a volleyball match.Emotional night for both clubs recognizing there seniors. The future looks bright for both these programs because there are some huge hitters returning for both clubs. The ladies on both sides of the net put on a show tonight.Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
  23. #12 for the Warriors is a very good football player and is tough as a boot.I don't think anyone on here called anyone out or told the coaches how to play the game.TJ does a good job with the kids,he just simply doesn't have a lot of numbers. So he has to rest some of his better players when the defense is on the field.I don't have a dog in the fight so it's just an observation for me.I would rather have my best players on both sides of the ball and hope my guys were conditioned well enough to hold out. HD is solid this year and should win 23-a in my opinion. They have a good ground game, a solid QB to keep the defenses honest and pretty good speed on both sides of the ball.I think they finish first followed by Evadale and the WH.
  24. HJ lost Bernsen and Breeden. They return the 2 post players along with LaLa,Jamie and the Sutherland girl. They will be solid in the starting lineup but I don't know anything abouth there depth. That will be the key to how far they go this year but they always seem to have some young kids step up and give them some minutes. They should be strong on the boards and they will definitely have 3 girls that can shoot it from the perimeter. I think WOS will struggle regardless of who coaches them. They lost a ton of talent since Orebo was at the reigns last time.
