You may want to go to Hardin County if you are new to the area to see some good basketball.Hardin Jefferson,Silsbee and Kountze will all 3 be pretty entertaining.Tyler County will have 5 teams ,Woodville,Spurger,Warren,Colmesneil and Chester. While I don't know much about Colmesneil or Chester except that they aren't normally known for there basketball clubs the other 3 took some huge hits from graduation last year.Woodville has always had talent but they seem to put the football program ahead of everything else.Spurger will be young and may take awhile to get used to not having Whittaker and Sheffield, they do have some excellent young players but may be a year away from being a legitamate threat.Warren returns one letterman but will likely start 4 seniors so they will have to learn on the court.Overall I think Tyler County will be down a little this year on the hardwood.I also think Polk county will miss McKinney more than they realize,he was the MAN at Big Sandy ;)

I don't think the definition of a great program can be judged on wins and losses. For example a recent boys program had multiple state titles but couldn't get the kids on the bus to make the trip home.So you had a great team but a program that lacked a lot to be desired.Using this analogy you have several great programs in the state that have never won a state title.Which brings up another debate.Would you rather have a great program or a great team? ;)

Buna shouldn't be a sleeper. They gotta be the favorite with a huge offensive line and solid running game.I think they win it followed by Anahuac and E/C.Everyone else is close so some upsets could shake it up even more.

This was a great game to watch. Two very evenly matched clubs and about as good a small school crowd as I've seen at a volleyball match.Emotional night for both clubs recognizing there seniors. The future looks bright for both these programs because there are some huge hitters returning for both clubs. The ladies on both sides of the net put on a show tonight.Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

#12 for the Warriors is a very good football player and is tough as a boot.I don't think anyone on here called anyone out or told the coaches how to play the game.TJ does a good job with the kids,he just simply doesn't have a lot of numbers. So he has to rest some of his better players when the defense is on the field.I don't have a dog in the fight so it's just an observation for me.I would rather have my best players on both sides of the ball and hope my guys were conditioned well enough to hold out. HD is solid this year and should win 23-a in my opinion. They have a good ground game, a solid QB to keep the defenses honest and pretty good speed on both sides of the ball.I think they finish first followed by Evadale and the WH.

HJ lost Bernsen and Breeden. They return the 2 post players along with LaLa,Jamie and the Sutherland girl. They will be solid in the starting lineup but I don't know anything abouth there depth. That will be the key to how far they go this year but they always seem to have some young kids step up and give them some minutes. They should be strong on the boards and they will definitely have 3 girls that can shoot it from the perimeter. I think WOS will struggle regardless of who coaches them. They lost a ton of talent since Orebo was at the reigns last time.

Warren's problem this year has nothing to do with game planning. It is simply depth. When a small 2-a school has to rest its better players on the defensive side of the ball it makes for a long night. In all honesty these kids are playing about as well as they can play. The last thing a coach would do is take the ball out of his fastest players hands(#12).About the only adjustments I could see would be keeping the older kids in the game on both sides of the ball.Even in the losses Young,Blackshear,Word,Kelly and Morris have played pretty well on the offensive side of the ball.Derouen has looked very good on the defensive side along with Riley. For the Warriors to be competetive from here on out they will have to these guys going both ways.Good luck the rest of the way guys.Didn't mean to leave any of the underclassmen out,I just don't know many of them. The Greeson kid is gonna be a real solid player, has good hands and never takes a play off, just needs to grow a little.

I wish I could say yes but that would be a stretch. Not much work in the off season makes for a long season.

Just wondering if anyone has any stats for Spurger's returning players?I have watched them a lot over the last few years and the bulk of there scoring came from Phillip and the Sheffield kid. Blankenship looked like he could score at times last year but I really don't know how many PPG or RBS any of the returning kids had.Help us out here courtside if you have info on George,McGallion and Blankenship.

Don't get me wrong here because I don't look for Warren to be a power this year but they have a pretty good history against the pirates.

bucs lose head coach how will it affect the team
whsalum replied to bucs rule man's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hank did a great job but losing Tramain and Vance would make it hard on anyone.EC will still be a playoff team but the regional tournament will be a long shot with the go_to guy gone. -
From what I've heard Warren didn't look good at all in the scrimmages. To be fair to them though they were missing some key players.Morris was missing in the first scrimmage except for a couple of plays and Young and Blackshear sat out the second one. From what I saw Friday the Warriors will need those 3 for sure to compete.Brandon Young has a tremendous upside as both a safety and a receiver.Warren may not be a playoff team but I think they are a little better than some folks are giving them credit for.

The talent has been in Woodville for years. The biggest problem for them will be letting the basketball team have a chance to develop.Coach Bowles was developing a disciplined program there but I think the AD up there is a football first guy and that makes it hard for the basketball program to play to its potential.Newton will be the favorite in that district but Woodville will be very competetive. Not sure anyone would count this group as a darkhorse but I like Orangefield as my surprise club this year.

There first TD came on a strong run by Copeland. There last one came 1:15 left in the ballgame and I think it also came on a QB keeper.I don't have any stats on Tyler but he took the snap out of the shotgun on every play.WH is pretty small in the backfield and at the receivers this year so Tyler will probably take some pretty good shots.I hope he stays healty for the Oilers sake because they will struggle without him.WH will win some ballgames this year witout a doubt and possibly even slide in the 3rd playoff spot.
-
They weren't supposed to win this one either, but they did.In all honesty this game was a lot closer to being 32-7 than it was 18-15.They probably will struggle with the front runners in the district but they will play several teams close. They threw the ball well friday and that will be the key to there season. They also got a look at a very young secondary that did better than I had expected.Warren can't afford any injuries but if they stay healthy they have a shot at winning a few district ballgames.
-
Good win for the Warriors. The game really wasn't this close, a couple more passes that had TD written all over them and this one would have been pretty lopsided.I was surprised at the outcome and will be the first to congratulate the kids.Young had a huge game and Kelly threw the ball well.Greeson also had some pretty catches to sustain drives. Overall a solid effort from all the kids and a pretty good crowd for a small school ballgame.Congrats also to Copeland,he's the real deal.

Kountze Vs. Woodville/KOUNTZE WINS/COMMENTS
whsalum replied to LionHeart's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Played for UT ????? Give me a break.Kountze has a ton of returning players and Woodville always has some speed. This one will be close and I'm not even sure where they are playing but I'm picking Kountze by 7. Kountze 21 Wdvl-14 -
NO WAY WHSALUM Darn CATMAN you didn't have to yell.Me and you usually agree but this time we will have to disagree.I watched Henry win with very little at Evadale and then win some games at Lumberton he shouldn't even have been in.HD always has some athletes and he will get the most out of them.WH is getting a brand new coach as is Spurger. The Pirates also lost 3 huge pieces to there puzzle so I like HD'S chances.
-
Not sure how 2 simple questions developed in to 4 pages of this. Two simple answers, not very well and no.These two teams will have brand new identities this year with very few lettermen returning. As far as last years seniors for Spurger, Phillip and the 2 Sheffield boys could play for me any day.I don't think I would want a player who wasn't upset after losing a close game in his own tournament. If the guys doing all the talking on this thread don't get to work it's gonna be a long season for both of them.Best of luck to both clubs.
-
If NCAA elgibility is the problem the same rules would apply at LU as they do at UT.
-
Wasn't talking about transfers.Just about Sabine Pass being inconsistant. Not really much history in basketball and they have been real inconsistant over the last few years looking good one game and not so great the next.

How Bad Will Evadale Beat Warren In The Scrimmage?
whsalum replied to bobthebuilder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Not sure what kinda injuries James and Brandon have but Warren will need them to be competetive this year. Both are pretty quick and are a threat when you get the ball in there hands, not to mention they are the best 2 defensive players Warren has.The offensive line will be the question mark for the Warriors as they lost everyone off it from last year. For this group to score they will have to make quick throws on timing routes and that goes away from what they usually do.Plain and simple this group won't line up and run over any of the defenses on there schedule but could put up some points in the passing game.Brandon is fast but a 4.4 might be wishful thinking or a quick watch ;) -
I totally agree, the sky should be the limit for this young man.
-
Save this for reference guys.Jason Henry gets more out of his players than most coaches. With a year under his belt at HD they will win the district.
