I'm saying the 06 team would beat the team that will take the floor for this upcoming season.Looking at the 06 club you had Granger,Sims and Word who could all put up big numbers on any given night, plus you had some depth that could give you some quality minutes.I agree with you totally about the Andrews brothers,Matt is the better player because he had all the natural tools ,mainly size.Cody will give the club everything he has because has a tremendous heart.Cody will score if he is in an offensive system designed to let him come off screens and get seperation,if not he will struggle getting his shots off.One kid I've been impressed with who could become a player is the Greeson kid,I think he's a sophomore.

I haven't talked to Cris since early in the summer so I hadn't heard he left.Give me the details there "Ric".Looking at the 06 roster this years group would struggle with them. The 06 club started Tyler Word,Kinney Granger,Paul Sims,Jewel Morrison and Caleb Swinney. They also had McBee,Jimmy Rawls and Brandon Sims who played quite a bit. This years club would struggle big time with that group. No disrespect to Cody but Matt is probably in a different league. The biggest trouble with this years group will be experience and dedication.Everyone graduated that started last year and these guys didn't spend much time in the gym this summer.I hope they do well,I'll be there watching.

Who Will The Best Player In The Area This Season?
whsalum replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If Roman Walkers knee is OK he is by far Kountzes best player and would definitely be in the top 5.The small school guys are getting left out on this list but you gotta look at Walker,Bernard,Robinson and Copeland. These kids can play. Also the big kid over at Newton, can't remember his name but he is gonna turn some heads this year. -
I don't know the extent of Walkers injury at Kountze but even with Roman and Bray the Lions don't beat Silsbee and HJ.Silsbee looked great over the summer and everyone seems to be forgetting HJ returns Jarvis and Trey. You throw in the returning players Orangefield has and you may have your top 3 small school clubs out of that district.I have Kountze at #4 followed VERY closely by Newton.
-
I don't think Warren will win the district or even challenge for a playoff spot but the mighty Lions beat them last year by 1 on a last second extra point so don't overlook any of the clubs.FYI= the playoff clubs stay the same this with D-ville maybe slippin in if they stay healthy.

What east Texas team has the best chance to go to state?
whsalum replied to bobcatfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Very impressive list there Nike,Any of the top 6 teams could have a shot.BS is going to miss there big guy,if he would have stayed healthy last year I think they would have walked out of the drum as the champs.Goodrich is always good and I was very impressed the 2 times I saw Slocum last year.I don't know how hard graduation hit Brookeland but the will be in the mix again.New Waverly would get my vote on this list as the 2-a club, they had a good young club last year. -
Travis or Duane could tell you.Last year it was all the clubs from the Kountze Summer League plus Vidor,Nederland ,Lumberton and several more of the 4-a clubs. It will be a good summer tournament.

1a now that BS is gone whos the big dawg now?
whsalum replied to Evolution's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
H/D wins the district.Good young coach in his 2nd year there and some pretty good atheletes to work with.Spurger gets the 2nd spot with some young players who are gonna be good but the will miss Phillip and the Sheffield boys. From there it's a toss up.WH has the best player in the district but he doesn't have much help so I'm sure the other clubs will deny him the ball.Even if he averages 30 they won't win many.As a whole the district will be down from last year but that will make it pretty even and a lot of fun to watch. -
How good will West Hardin Be Next Yr
whsalum replied to basketballcoach's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's hard(impossible) to build a program when you have 3 coaches in 3 years.Tyler will be in the top 10 individuals players in the area but that won't be enough to make the Oilers a real good playoff team.Even with BS moving and Spurgers losses to graduation and coaching loss I don't see WH as a playoff club. They may go in as the 3rd seed but the district won't be very strong so whoever gets that spot gets a quick exit.H/D wins it,Spurger takes 2nd and then its anybody's guess. They will also get a very late start because Tyler will be the QB on the football team and they could easily make the playoffs on the gridiron. -
Good luck Coach.Great guy who was in the process of turning the program at Woodville in the right direction.Where is Yantis, that's a new one on me.
-
Coach Bowles would have done a great job at Woodville had he been given the chance. The current AD at Woodville is a football guy plain and simple and the basketball program is going to be on the back burner.Coach Bowles had the summer league established but it hasn't been real strong when you look at some of the other leagues around here.I wish Coach Bowles the best,he is a nice guy and ran a disciplined program for the last couple of years.I can't argue about the facilities but I don't think the job will be as attractive as the previous poster made it sound.Plus the new coach is going to be in a brutal district for the next 2 years.

* EC Coach Hank Hargraves Accepts Job At 3A Bullard*
whsalum replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This should not have been a surprise.Young coaches who are going to move up have to strike while the iron is hot.Hank has done a super job in Winnie and is going to a fine basketball school. His success will be hard to duplicate with the loss of Tramain and McDonald so I hope the fans in Chambers county aren't to hard on the new guy.I agree with DP#1 'Hank is a class act and should have been the coach of the year on more than 1 occasion over the past few years.Good luck coach. -
I figured it had something to do with the realignment just wasn't sure.I wasn't dogging Anahuac just curious as to what had changed for everyone to be picking them so high.I still don't see the playoff spots changing much.I quess the biggest question I have will be with Hardin, the have an excellent coach but Nolan and Marsh will be pretty tough to replace.EC is still going to be the team to beat and Buna while losing some good OLinemen are still gonna be solid.Deweyville is going to be the club to watch simply because the are pretty small numbers wise. They could be very good if they stay healthy.Last year injuries just destroyed them.
-
I don't think there are any 4.4's in Warren however there RB's will probably be there strengths this year. Brandon Young has some speed but played receiver last year. The backs will probably be Blackshear,Morris and Scritchfield. The QB will do a good job along with the receivers, the questions will be on the line where they lost some quality players. Not sure why everyone has them picked last. They beat Deweyville and Anahuac last year and lost to Kountze by 1 point on a last second 2 point conversion.I also don't know why the schedule has them playing in Kountze again this year, looks like that game should be in Warren.I don't see the playoff picks changing much. 1. EC 2. Buna 3. Hardin 4. Kountze 5. Warren 6. Anahuac 7. Deweyville
-
Silsbee is gonna be very good as usual and I don't think they have had Shannon with them so far.Kountze is also looking pretty good despite missing Walker with a knee injury and Bray(who says he going to St. Pius).Everyone else has looked pretty average from what I'm hearing.Warren has really struggled so far losing to Lumberton by 20,Silsbee by a butt load and Hardin by 8.I haven't seen West Hardin,Kelly or Evadale but have heard they weren't looking real strong.
-
how many times you gonna change your picks??? cuz youve posted like a million different scenarios.. haha The district may be closer than some think.Warren beat Anahuac last year on the road and lost to Kountze by one on a last second 2 pt conversion that was aided by an off sides penalty.Buna will be better than there getting credit for also and Deweyville may have had the best young team in the district.Ther main question will come from the coaching change.Every team in this district will have to show up and play there A game this year or they will go home with a loss.
-
Looks like a LONG season ahead for the Warriors.Silsbee just destroyed them last week. They probably shouldn't be able to beat the tigers but they have to be able to at least compete with them if they plan on being respectable next year.
-
Not sure what the summer league officials make but it's probably more than 20 a game.I have never seen a charge at the door either.Normally the cost of the jersey covers all expenses.I had the pleasure for several years to coach a summer team that played in the Kountze league and Duane and Travis do a great job of running that one. These leagues should be strictly used to develop the kids skills and keep them in the gym.I'm not sure the UIL would let you put this money back into your program.
-
Don't know how I could have left LaLa off the list. She is probably the fastest girl from one to the other I've seen. This group is gonna be pretty good.
-
If Anahuac keeps there players elgible they finish 2nd behind Kountze. The 3rd spot is anyones guess but I would probably give the nod to Hardin simply because the have a solid point guard.EC will struggle without Tramain and McDonald and Hardin won't resemble the same team without Marsh.Deweyville returns Caswell but lost Bland and Jackson to graduation so they will be in the middle of the pack.Warren graduated everyone so they will probably struggle while Buna will actually be a little better. The winner of this district however will have to beat a good Newton team and a good New Waverly club to go to the drum and that won't be easy.
-
Not showing much dedication so far. They will have to really get to work if they want to be competetive and so far they haven't done that.Lumberton beat them last week in the only game they have played this summer. They will struggle to score this season.Cody will do ok and will give you everything he's got but he's about a foot shorter than his brother.Cody has a real good work ethic but I 'm not sure he has the size to put up the kind of numbers his brother did. Matt could have been a super player if he would have put the time in the gym.I think they will be respectable once Cris gets to work with them some, they don't have much experience coming back.
-
HJ has 2 good returning post players, the Sutherland girl who will probably move to the point and a very good shooter in King on the Wing. Not sure what kind of depth they will have but there first group will definitely make them a contender.
-
If they are playing from 3-9 they may have to charge to pay the officials. They would have to have several crews to cover that many games. If not they should pull the ticket booth down and let the folks enjoy the games for nothing, there not meant to be a money making venture.
-
They lost a lot but they may surprise some folks. It will depend on how much tme they spend in the gym this summer because they didn't get a lot of playing time last year. PG- Nash 3 ppg- graduated. Blackshear will fill this role. Guard-Mcbee 5 ppg-graduated.Young should do well in this spot. Guard-Sims 19 ppg-graduated.Cody Andrews will be the shooter on this club. Post-Swinney 8 ppg-graduated.Scritchfield looks to have the edge on this spot. Post-Andrews-15 ppg-graduated.Riley will slide in this spot. Biggest challenge will be getting a small lineup open for the shots.Andrews can score and Young is the best athlete that has came thru Warren in years if he learns to play smart he could be special.
