  1. Just messing with ya Nike, sometimes folks on here predict with there heart.I gotta admit I blew the EC/Newton pick.I didn't know who would win but I thought it would be close.Newton couldn't hit anything the other night and they had open looks everytime down the floor.Didn't look like the same club I saw earlier this year.
  2. EC definiely has a chance but talent wise this club misses Leday and Guillory terribly. They also miss Joseph from the year before. That being said Hank has done a tremendous job getting the most out of the players he has.As long as Tramain is on the floor the Bucs are never out of the game.Good luck Friday in Tyler.
  3. Don't take all the credit there Nikes.I predicted a close game with BS and Slocum after watching them in the Zavalla tournament.I know absolutely nothing about Cayuga so I can't predict this one.Not any bad teams left at this point so it should be close.Cayuga definitely has tradition on there side.
  4. I think the rule staTes that a technical is called if the players step across the boundary line.I know this is a very unfortunate incident and if the call was made as a makeup it is dead wrong. My question( and I ask just to let folks vent) is if the players stepped on the court in any form should it have been a "T".If it's not called then the other team would have a legitimate complaint. My personal opinion is in a game this size you let the players decide the outcome, but there could definitely be an argument for the other side.JMO
  5. I'll be yelling for the Pirates but what in the world could a little dribblers game have to do with the outcome of a regional semi final game? Lets go Pirates , turn it loose.
  6. I haven't followed this thread in its entirety but I think this same thing happened early in the season in a game with Silsbee and Hemphill.Of coarse the stakes weren' nearly as high but the call was exactly the same. That lends to another topic. Is a rule to be changed according to game situations or is a rule a rule?Just curious about people opinion. ??? ??? ???
  7. Actually I saw the Tapps club play several times last year.I was simply making an observation about returning players.HJ has several returning players who will be good ballplayers. The "if given the chance" just caught my eye.The young lady you posted about will do a good job and will be a very good ballplayer.Just FYI I saw the Tapps club at least 4 times last year and theres no way they compete with the 21-3a clubs.I'll be sure and check with you next time before I post just to make sure it's OK.
  8. You make my point for me Bobcat05.These were some very good high school players and the young lady from HF had to be a great student, not many people get offers from Rice. But how many on this list could be impact players at the D1 level. If you want to be successful you have a limited number of scholarships you have to give to players that can elevate your program.Coach Tidwell has watched a lot of the high school girls in Southeast Texas and promotes the area schools every chance he gets.It will take him a few years to get his stamp on the program but when he does it will be fun to watch.Scott from WOS could have contributed but I think she was already sold on U of H before Tidwell got settled in.
  9. I talked with our old coach last night after watching EC/Newton.His club faced Arp in the second round and was beaten by 30.He said they had a whole lot more than Johnson and would be tough.I haven't seen them this year so I can't predict a score.I can predict Thomas will have a huge game and will leave everything on the Wagstaff floor.I hope it's enough.Good luck Bucs.
  10. I know the HJ coach pretty well and I can promise you every player on the team will be given a chance. They will have to be dedicated , work hard during the summer and go through the rigors of cross country but they will be given every opportunity to be successful. There is no comparison to the Taps district and 21-3a.The youg lady mentioned here will definitely help HJ along with the 2 post players,Moore and the Sutherland girl. That is a very good group of returning players.
  11. I hate to kill my Karma here but I gotta put my 2 cents in.Some of you are recruiting with your heart and not your head. The current Lamar coach has a rep of being one the best in the business at recruiting. While it's great to give the local kids there props there simply isn't a wealth of D1 players in this area. You are certainly right about Coach A knowing all the local talent, that should tell you something.Spears was a legit project but she needed some work at the position she was going to play in college. She got that work and has turned into a very solid player who can now go on and play D1 ball.Gabriel I don't think is anywhere near the UT campus any longer. Some of these girls will be able to play college ball at the Juco level but if LU wants to put a legitimate contender on the floor they better go to Spain or California or wherever the absolute best players are, thats what everyone else is doing. The difference between a good high school player and a legitimate D1 prospect is night and day.
  12. Congrats to the pirates.Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of kids.
  13. Tramain was the difference in this one plain and simple.Newtons big kid did a good job early and had a big defensive game. EC played a tough zone and denied the inside pass in the second half and Newton did not shoot the long ball well at all.Congrats EC on a very well played game.Thomas had to have at least 30.Good luck next weekend in Tyler.
  14. Kinda waters down the process doesn't it. : :
  15. My bad, I did mean Trevino, saw where he was in double figures friday but was hurt. These 3 will be the keys for EC if they want to win.
  16. If Big Sandy is completely healthy they are probably a slight favorite.Slocum will try and control the tempo and they will hit the shots when they get them.I saw both teams and I'll say BS by 6.Slocum played with a very athletic Woodville club and beat them in OT,and Woodville should have been a playoff club in 23aa.I think they beat BS but I'm not sure about that. BS-60 Slocum-54
  17. I have seen them both play this year. EC three times and Newton twice and the game will be close.EC has two things in there corner,Tramain Thomas and tradition. Newton will have the more athletic club overall and I would give there big guy the edge.I really like the McDonald kid but I don't think he has recovered completely from his shoulder injury. In the three games I saw him play he got several outside looks but didn't hit the shots.I think they will have to slide him inside to work Newtons big guy or they could get in trouble on the boards.I think the game will be decided by single digits and will come down to Raymond,Carrington or Trevino stepping up to help Thomas against the press and also scoring,if they do EC wins by a few if not Newton will win it.
  18. I gotta agree with Bleed Orange, so far they have 5 from Silsbee,5 from O-field and 2 from BC. No one has posted from HJ yet and they have several that are very deserving.Throw in Kirbyville, Jasper and HF and you are gonna have a pretty good sized list. There are some very good players in this district but not every player on every team is an all district caliber player.Using these guidelines you could make an argument for 6 or 7 kids off the HJ club.
  19. I'll be yelling for EC in this one but there will be some mismatch problems for the Bucs. The best player on the floor will be Tramain but don't think this is the same ole Eagle football club playing basketball. They could very easily have the next 3 or 4 best players on the floor Tuesday. They have some very quick guards and a real good big guy in the middle. If Thomas gets some help EC wins by 3 ,if not Newton by 8.
  20. Great year for a terrific group of young ladies.#20 for Fairfield was the real deal tonight, she was cold the 1st quarter but from midway in the second she was unstoppable. At one point against a box and 1 she penetrated and hit a 15 ft jumper with 4 defenders on her,not much you can do about that. The Lady Hawks will miss Bernsen and Breeden next year but the cupboard is far from bare in Sour Lake.Congrats on a super season and thanks for letting the Tyler County Crew come along for the ride.
  21. I think D-ville and Warren are the two smallest teams in the district ;) ;)And we would both have gladly took the third spot.Good luck Hardin tomorrow night.
  22. Puts it all back in perspective.Prayers from Warrior country.
  23. I didn't say NW wasn't fast CATMAN, I said Newton can get up and down the floor very fast.I've seen just about every club in SETEXAS this season and the eagles are gonna surprise some folks if anyone overlooks them. They press pretty well and have a solid big guy in the middle. They make up for some shooting defeciencies with there defense.
