1. Paul Sims-Warren- .He has hit 86/105 for 82% on the year. The last 3 games against Hardin,E/C and Kountze he was 19/19.Third year in a row he has shot around the 80% mark with at least 100 attempts in each season.Pretty good shooter for a small school guy. ;)
2. Anahuac is missing to many pieces to there puzzle to be the favorite but watching Vance the other night in Warren he is still isn't anywhere near healthy.I don't know where the game is but it's close enough that the home team wins.
3. Thats a very real possibility. I think there are gonna be some upsets in the second half and I don't see anyone in the district beating Kountze the way there playing right now.
4. I agree high school ball is all about match ups.Marsh will play well but Kountze has 2 bigs that play well and the guard match ups go to Kountze at home.I also agree about the officials at Hardin, they did a very good job of calling a good ballgame.I don't think that will be the case in Kountze, they will let them play and that style game favors Kountze.I think the Lions win this one and set up another matchup in the Montagne. Kountze-80 Hardin-60
5. Foul count was takin out of balance??? that is RETARDED. look at the foul count in the first half. Kountze was definitly called for more fouls that Warren. In both varsity boys and varsity girls, and they still won big!!! a typical sign of a sore loser= someone who wants to blame the teams loss on anything besides the fact that they Just flat out GOT BEAT!!!!! The foul cont at halftime was Warren-12,Kountze-11.I think what he was referring to was that teams that play full court pressure "d" normally pick up more fouls than those that play a half court defense, which was not the case last night.Warren had 1 player ejected,2 foul out and 3 more with 4 fouls. The tone for this game was set in the first 3 minutes after which the lead official called his crew to mid court and instructed them to"OK lets tighten this up".Thats kinda like shuttin the gate after the cows get out.It was out of control at that point.I certainly don't blame the Kountze players, they play hard and adjust to what the officials give them which is what well coached teams do.I think they will win out and win this district.
6. If you don't think Bray started this you need to watch the tape. His actions with the head butt and ensuing comments were made first,Sims is just going to have to learn to go on down the floor(which he normally does). You are correct about Kountze being the better team last night ,Warren effectively took themselves out of the game with 1st quarter turnovers.I do think the game would have been considerably closer had Sims stayed in it,he had 18 of Warrens 40 when he was ejected.Devin has as much potential as any soph I've seen and I believe as he matures Duane will get him headed in the right direction.I sure hope so for his sake ,he has tons of talent.I'm not whining about the officials,I'm always the last guy at the door to tell them they done a good job but even they will tell you sometimes they have a bad game. They simply let this one get out of hand early and it cost a good ballplayer an early exit.
7. Warren 7 22 41 64 Kountze 19 36 59 82 Warren Sims-18, Andrews-13, McBee-11, Swinney-8, Young-8, Nash-5. Warren turned the ball over way to many times to give themselves a chance to win this one. They played hard after Sims left the game but couldn't get over the hump.Kountze has a good young club and I think they are probably the favorite now to win the district. They seem to be getting better every game now.
8. Congrats to both clubs on a well played game.Boy was I wrong on my prediction.I thought D-Ville would pull this one out at home.I also thought Nolan would neutralize Jackson and Caswell would be the difference.I guess I better retire from predictions.
9. Congrats Pirates. You guys are still in the playoff hunt, take care of business and this race will get interesting.
10. I have to agree warfan i believe the official that ejected him wanted him out of the game. There were 2 officials standing right beside him at mid court and they guy that ejected him was under the basket giving the shooter the ball. It's sad to see players work as hard as he has and have an incompetent official take him out of the game.Up to that point he had been continually trying to keep the peace on the floor.I guess he will have to learn to take the head butt and go on about his business.
11. Never seen him lose his cool, didn't see it tonight either. He was helping a teamate up when he was head butted by one of Kountzes players. He pushed the kid back and was given a"T".For some reason this crew didn't see the butt(a 3 man crew missed this). The Kountze player proceded to tell him what he was fixing to do to him and Sims took a step forward. He was given the boot at that point. He was having a nice game to that point.Actually heard the official apologizing after the game for letting it get out of hand.Warren got beat last week against EC and the officiating was as good as I've seen this year.I know these officials and they usually do a good job,but tonight they wouldn't score well. The irony of the situation was the player that started this confrontation was even called for a foul and Sims didn't have a foul up to this point.
12. 10 point game with 6:02 left in the 3rd quarter when Sims was ejected. He had 18 at the time. These officals should give the game check back. They let this one get out of hand early.
13. EC        16  29  36  59 WARREN 8  18  26  40 E/C Thomas-18 7/8 FT line,Raymond-10. Warren Sims-17 (3-3ptrs)4/4 FT line,Andrews-10,Nash-9 Very well officiated game.EC jumped out early and led by 11 at half.Sims hit 3 from behind the arc in the 3rd and Warren cut the lead to 4 midway thru the 3rd.Three consecutive turnovers led to 3 fastbreaks and 3 and 1's started by Tramain and the Bucs never looked back.Disappointing game for the Warriors,Andrews hit 10 in the first half then didn't get the ball much in the second half.Sims was cold early but shot it very well in the second half but like Andrews didn't get the ball much.Tramain was the difference in the ball game.He penetrated and 9 Bucs scored mostly in the paint. If you would have told me before the game Tramain and Vance would combine for 20 I would have liked Warrens chances but everyone else stepped up for the Bucs.Good luck to both clubs the rest of the way.
14. I've seen Hardin play 4 times this year.3 wins and 1 loss and after every game I didn't know how they won but they did and that's all that counts.Marsh and Bland are both good ballplayers but won't matchup head to head if Hardin plays there normal zone.Marsh plays a lot out front to trap which will leave a mismatch in the paint.Deweyville is very hard to beat at home.I think Nolan probably neutralizes Jackson simply because of the size difference. The key to this game will be the 3rd man on the totem pole and Caswell gets the edge there because Hardins #3 guy is hurt.Marsh has a huge game but Deweyville gets the win by 4.
15. If I was building a team I would definitely start with Tramain,he makes everyone on the floor around him better.Franks would be my second pick and Bernard my 3rd.If I looked down my bench and my go to guy was headed to the showers it would be a one way trip.JMO but as honest as I can be. ::) ::) ::)
16.
they did not lose there best 2 players. They have Larry Rivon #11 who should cause Hardin trouble all night. They don't have a 3 pt shooter though so this 2-3 zone should work i'd say hardin by 4
Larry is solid but Anthony Rivon #1 is the player who really stepped up on Warren.I think he and Boykin are out with grades.
17.
If ANAHUAC lost there 2 best players,i will change my predictions HARDIN--------BY---------16 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The 2 they lost put up 40 when they played Warren, that may not be there best but they were pretty darn good that night.
18. They got as good a shot as EC : : :
19. Anahuac lost there 2 best players to grades but this is a tough place to play. There are some matchup problems here in the backcourt for the Hornets but they have the edge in the paint so it comes down to tempo.I think Anahuac wins this one at home in a close game.Panthers by 4.
20. Not sure about these polls.Warren hasn't played to there potential lately but they have split with your #10 team Spurger, beaten Deweyville,West Hardin and Jasper.Sabine Pass wouldn't even be in the same class.Come on Coop you gotta look at the head to head meetings.
21. Very good ballgame to watch.Warren came out extremely cold from both the inside and outside and Hardin built a 9 point lead. Both teams shot it better in the second half and the game was tied midway thru the 4th.Warren stayed in it by going 17-20 from the line but 2 late turnovers and slams by Marsh sealed the deal.Congrats to both clubs ,it was a lot of fun to watch.
22. I checked him out on ESPN tonight.Size 26 shoe :o
23. Judging by there record they are pretty good both places. My reference was more about holding Phillip and JT down 2 games in a row.I think they are 2 good of players to have another game like that when they play in Spurger. They beat Brookeland in Brookeland so they must be OK on the road but I like their chances against HD in Spurger.
24. I think our end of the region is down a little this year.Arp probably should be in the top spot because they got a late start playing in the state championship football game.I saw Newton a couple of times and they will win that district easily.Tatum is always good.
