  1. I knew Coach West would do a good job of turning that program around. They aren't as consistant yet as they need to be but the potential is there for them to be very good. They are very quick ,have a lot of depth and several kids that can shoot it.This club can beat anyone in the district on any given night.Just not Kountze in Kountze. You K-town folks are gonna appreciate how far Coach West has brought them, they don't look like the same club from last year.
  2. Congrats HD on the win.Coach Henry could win coaching the school for the blind. There are 2 things however that won't happen when you go to Spurger.Phillip Whittacre won't be held under 15 points and JT Sheffield won't go 1-9 behind the arc. This club is pretty darn good. They will have some spurts when the young guns are in the game but they are hard to beat at home.
  3. Theres your winner then, but it will be closer than folks think.Bland will more than hold his own in the paint but the pirates don't have an answer for Tramain at home.I'll say the Bucs in a close one by 6.
  4. Hardin has a good club no doubt but the winner of this district will be the one that protects the home court and steals a game or 2 on the road.I think whoever wins this district will have at least 2 losses and maybe 3.There are some very interesting matchups in this district and almost every club is capable of beating each other on the right night. This is gonna be fun to watch play out.
  5. Folks I gotta tell ya as an outsider Hank has done a super job over the last 4 years with his club. It's not easy to make the regional tourney on a good year ,to play in the finals 3 times in 3 years is remarkable. He beat Kountze twice last year with a club that shouldn't have beaten them at all.Be careful what you wish for in the stands, you may not like what you get next and if Hank stays in coaching he will have a successful program no matter where he's at.Good teams follow good coaches around, that's no coincidence.Sounds like a good possesion type ballgame and in those you put yourself in a position to win.The team that makes the shots win the game and Hardin ain't a weak sister by any stretch.Good luck to the Bucs and the Hornets.
  6. Where is the game????
  7. I read Coopers report on the Kountze-Dville game on the other site and he said Kountze hasn't been shooting the long ball well at all.The info came from an interview with Duane.I know they have some kids that usually shoot it pretty well but they seem to be struggling from behind the arc this year. One thing for sure,if the kid is a freshman he won't do anything but get better. How many has he hit on the season?
  8. If Anahuac shoots the 3 ball like they did against Warren it will be closer than folks think.Anahuac has the guards to keep it close but Kountze definitely has the edge in the paint. If the game is in Kountze the lions win by 15,if its in Anahuac its to close to call.
  9. Warren 13 31 40 60 Buna 10 13 23 34 Warren:Andrews-20,Sims-17(5-3ptrs),Swinney-13. Buna:Holmes-11,Hillin-12(4-3ptrs). Congrats guys on the win.Came out tonight with a lot more intensity, shooting was cold early with the exception of Andrews but heated up as the game went on.Swinney played a solid ballgame. He has been playing well lately.McBee looked to be moving well tonight after twisting the knee last week.
  10. Congrats Hornets. They definitely are in the drivers seat with wins over Kountze and EC,this district is gonna be crazy.
  11. No disrepect to Deweyville because they play well at home but they haven't seen a club of Kountzes caliber this year.Bray and Bland will play it about even but the Kountze guards will be the difference.Kountze wins this one by 10. Kountze 80 Deweyville 70
  12. This is another one thats all about matchups, the 2 big guys will keep close tabs on each other but Hardin doesn't have an answer for Tramain.EC wins this one by 12 at home. EC 68 Hardin 56
  13. I don't think think this bunch will quit. They ran into an Anahuac team that had to win tonight and took care of business. This was a 1 pt game at halftme.Anahuac got up by 8 in the 3rd and took advantage of a technical foul to stretch the lead to 15(they hit the 4 free throws then hit a 3 on the inbound. They shot the 3 ball well after that to seal the win.Sims and Andrews shot the ball a combined 6 times the second half.Sims had 13 points in the 1st half and Andrews 6.They just didn't get the ball in the second half.Anahuac still has to come to Warren later this year and I think we will look like a different club once we get back in the gym.Anahuac played well and deserved this win.I've said all along the playoff teams in this district will have to protect the home court and still 1 or 2 on the road.I still feel the same way.
  14. I don't think the sky is falling in Warren.Sims is averaging about 20 a game(19.8) and Andrews about 13.The team just didn't get in the gym over the holidays and it showed. They played a game on 12/14/07 then didn't play again until the Spurger tourney on 12/27/07.They attempted to have a couple of practices but had several kids out of town. They played Liberty on Weds. 1/2/08 and Anahuac on 1/4/08 while still having only 1 practice on 1/3/08.It's hard to stay sharp with 1 practice from December 14 thru January 4th.The only thing that concerned me in Warren's losses last week were the lack of field goal attempts from Sims and Andrews in the second half of each game.Sims had 17 pts against Liberty but shot the ball only 3 times in the 2nd half.Andrews had 4 pts and shot it 3 times in the 2nd half.Against Anahuac Sims had 13 in the first half and didn't shoot it at all in the 3rd taking 3 shots in the 4th.Andrews had 8pts shooting it 3 times in the 2nd half. These 2 kids can fill it up when they get the opportunity.I've seen these kids cut a 20 pt deficit to 2 with 4 players against Brookeland and beat a very good Spurger club without there coach coming back from being down 15.I've had the pleasure of coaching these kids in tournaments and in leauges and the one thing I've never seen them do is quit.I don't know who will make the playoffs in this district but don't bury these guys just yet because when they get it together they can play some pretty good basketball.
  15. Nothing more dangerous than a crippled Lion in his own den.Kountze wins this one.
  16. They did deserve the win no doubt, they converted on the Warren turnovers and hit there free throws down the stretch.Coop ask for details and I just got thru charting the game.Plain and simple for Warren to win Sims and Andrews have to get the ball in there hands.Last night Sims scored 17,most of them in the first half .In Warrens win over Liberty at Evadale Andrews had 26.I was just making a statement that these 2 needed to shoot the ball last night for Warren to win.Liberty is playing better ball this year and will compete for a playoff spot.
  17. I know Jarvis can light it up,how many attempts does Ricossa get?I've seen HJ play several times and didn't see Ricossa get a lot of playing time. Some of these kids I don't know but I know Sims,Sheffield,Copeland and Bernard all get a lot attempts (and hit lots of them).Percentages can be deceiving if you don't shoot many.I haven't figured Sims percentage lately but he normally shoots about 45% from behind the arc.Colby Sungren is another one from HJ that hits some crucial 3's and don't forget Payne,he can light it up when he's on.
  18. DP#1 FAN,I don't know why everyone says that 3rd spot is open.I have seen every team in the district and there are 6 clubs capable of beating each other on any given night.Hardin has already beaten Kountze and EC.All 3 of the playoff spots are wide open in this district.
  19. Very simple, Sims shot the ball 3 times from the field the second half and Andrews shot it 3 times. These 2 kids have to shoot the ball for this club to be successful. That being said Warren still led by 7 with 5 minutes left.Missed free throws and 6 turnovers late sealed the deal. One thing about this club, they usually bounce back so don't write em off. When they are good they can be very good.Relax splitter Liberty held out and got the win. They deserve the congratulations.
  20. Liberty 4 16 31 54 Warren 7 24 36 45 Sims-17,Swinney-7,Young-7. I hate to say it but I saw this one coming. An old adage in basketball or any sport is you play like you practice and the boys haven't been in the gym since Saturday.Very unusual for a senior club to be this inconsistant. This was the last non district game so the time for talk is over. These kids can be really good when they commit themselves and very average when they don't.
  21. I think it starts with the student body, get them involved and the parents will go just to see whats up.Once they follow this group they will come back.Heck I don't hardly know anyone in Spurger and I've seen them play 4 times this year just because I like good basketball. You would be amazed at the difference in the intensity if the Spurger folks would pack the gym.I hope for the seniors sake (Phillip and JT)they get behind this club because these 2 are solid players and good kids who deserve the community support.
  22. I know I'm getting old,I stayed up until the ball starting dropping and went to sleep before it hit the bottom of the pole : : :
  23. It's all about matchups.Marsh and Whittacre are both top notch post guys and will just about take each other out.The difference I think will be Spurgers shooting guards,if they are on they shoot the ball better than Hardins. But the home court can cancel that out. This will be a good game to watch and will be a great game to get both clubs ready for the district grind.Spurgers fans need to get behind this club, they are pretty darn good and don't seem to be getting the support they deserve.
  24. Glad to see the Spurger boys bounce back.Good bunch of kids.I knew Sheffield would light it up if he would start shooting it again.Congrats on the win,Spurger is alot better than some people think.
  25. Thru 15 games Paul Sims from Warren has hit 46-3ptrs. In his his best game he hit 7-3's in the second half against Brookeland on his way to a 39 point outing. Also shooting 82% from the ft line.Kid has a pretty sweet shot when he's on.
