  1. Warren lost Esway and Granger who will be hard to replace.West Hardin lost a ton of folks who will be hard to replace.Copeland will do well at the QB but the Oilers will miss Simmons. The game between the 2 last year came down to extra points,Warren couldn't kick one(they lost 3 games that way).Warren came up empty several times in the red zone. This year the game will be played in Warren, thats why I made them the favorite. They will be solid again defensively and return 7 starters on the offensive side.Other than working on the passing game I wouldn't put much emphasis on 7 on 7.
  2. I think JCovan is out for the summer. The PAHeat will still put a good club on the floor. Not sure if ground zero still has a club but they have some local kids who are pretty solid.SETX SLAM will also be playing in it.They are pretty solid if they have there big guys. They have Bernard,Fontenot,Guillory,Weldon,Payne and McNeely from HJ.Malbrough from West Brook.Sims from Warren and Ward from Lumberton.Moten and Savoy from Ozen. Not sure who is coming from out of town hopefully it will be a good tournament. The first one was pretty good the last couple have been down a little.Overall some pretty good ball to watch.
  3. Kountze's defense will be solid but I don't think it's anywhere close to what is has been the last 3-4 years. There chances will depend on how Brey matures.EC matches up very well with them at the post and Tramain is the best guard in the district.Plus EC has already proven they can compete.I hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid 24-aa goes thru Winnie this year.
  4. They still could, HJ is the best small school team in this area. While Donahoe was one of a kind Burell,Bernard and Fontenot can all score.Add Weldon,Payne,Lil Stevie and Sungren and you have a very solid group of guards. While it is impossible to pick top 10 teams in July,my small school top 10 would start with HJ. 1-HJ 2 -Silsbee 3-EC 4-WOS 5-Kountze 6-Warren 7-Big Sandy 8-Newton 9-Woodville 10-Spurger I don't know enough about the big schools other than Ozen,Memorial and Central to even rate the big school guys but this would be a pretty accurate small school poll. Not sure of Kelly's enrollment but they would be one of the better small school clubs if thats where they went.
  5. Your lookin at Kountzes team from last year, this group doesn't even compare.I have got to watch the HJ team alot this summer and they are gonna be solid.I think the Kountze HJ game may be a 25 point contest but Kountze would be on the wrong end of the score. No disrespect to West Hardin because Copeland is gonna be a special player but I haven't seen anyting to go with him. They will struggle big time as defenses concentrate on him.The SETXSLAM( which is mostly HJ players along with Paul Sims )played West Brook earleir this year in one of the hoopinsider tourneys and beat them without Burrel or Sungren.Bernard,Burrell and Fontenot can all go for 25 on any given nite. Its hard to combine 1-a thru 5-a and get top 10.I like Warrens chances in the 1-a thru 3-a top 10.I think EC has to be the small school team to beat this year.
  6. Alot of the kids that contributed to that 36-7 route walked across the stage in May.Players like Simmons and Letsinger don't come along everyday at the 1-a level.Should be a real close game with HD having the advantage in speed.
  7. This kinda surprises me.Don't know anything about Mr. Henson but I don't recall Timpson being a power. There were a couple of REAL good head coaches looking at this position and a pretty good assistant already up there. Wish the best for the new coach and Brookeland but I didn't see this one coming ??? ??? ???
  8. HJ beats everyone on this list except Ozen and possibly Memorial if JCovan is healthy????????????
  9. Vance McDonald-EC He has all the tools, played the late part of last season with a banged up shoulder but should have a great year with Thomas keeping the defense honest with his speed.
  10. Not trying to down Kountze here but I don't think they were tied with Deweyville and Warren.EC,Deweyville and Buna were the playoff teams last year.Buna and Warren played at Buna the last game of the season for the last playoff spot.I wouldn't overlook Warren this year, they had some some key losses at QB and RB but they won't be bad. They had a big lead at Deweyville last year before some key injuries slowed them in the second half.Anahuac will also have someting to say about the playoff positions.EC is the favorite here the rest are to close to call.Kountze has as good a shot as anybody.
  11. 3-2 I don't see em beating Buna or Kountze this year.
  12. You get several with an attitude like J Ward you'll start turning that thing around.Hard worker who gives everything he's got.Bottom line is thats what it takes. The teams that will be successful in December are the ones working the hardest right now.Lumbertons biggest step will be learning to win ,once they take that step they may surprise some folks.I hope they do win ,that would be a lot of fun to watch.
  13. I saw Marsh listed in Dave Cambells magazine, is he playing football this year??Do they still have there kicker?
  14. I don't see em beatin Warren at Warren. What am I missing about Hardin.I didn't see a whole lot from the Hornets last year.Just asking because they took some pretty good thumpins last year.
  15. Warren lost 3 last year, 1 point to Groveton , 2 points to West Hardin and in Overtime to Woodville simply because we couldn't make an extra point.Did't matter who was kicking we were snake bit,What coulda easily been a 7-3 season wound up 4-6.Tough year for a pretty decent club.
  16. With the kids they lost that may be a bit optimistic.I think 2-4 may be a whole lot closer.
  17. Central doesn't win this game in either year, this year or last year.HJ is gonna be a whole lot better than some you are giving them credit. They will score off the "D"this year and will have more guards than Buckingham Palace ;D ;D ;D
  18. I have the utmost respect for both the Kountze and EC programs but I don't think either will have an easy time sweeping the Warriors next year.EC will return the top player in the district and will have Vance to help down low, Kountze has tradition on there side but the Warriors return lots of folks off a pretty decent club.Plus they match up pretty well with both clubs and in high school ball its all about the match ups.Kountze has dominated the past few years on pressure "D" and that part of there game isn't as strong as it has been in the past 3 or 4 years.I think this district is gonna be real close in the 1-6 spots.
  19. Surely there goal isn't 3rd, this district is gonna be pretty close top to bottom.Deweyville will be pretty good this year, they will miss Bass on the boards but other than that they should be pretty solid. As long as everyone stays healthy.
  20. I don't have a problem with them playing in the holiday tournaments.I just don't think it's fair for them to play in games with district playoff implications. That's why I said the district chairs should look at it.The playoff picture could be determined by timing of the holiday break or the timing of the schedule.
  21. I had never heard of this in district contest until last year.It happened last year in the boys division and the year before in a girls district.District games fell during the holiday break and players were able to play in this 2 week period and were then inelgible again.I personally think the district chairs should take a real close look at this.Timing on the schedule should not be a factor in district playoff races.I can see where it might be acceptable in tournaments or non district games but not with playoff spots on the line.JMO
  22. Last year they would have been competetive in both football and basketball but I'm not sure they would have made the playoffs in either sport. They beat Warren by 2 points in football (2 missed extra points) and 3 turnovers inside the 10.And they beat Warren's basketball team by 2.The basketball series would have been fun to watch. No disrespect but WH graduated some real good players, I dont think they would want to be in 24aa this year in either sport.
  23. Theres a pretty good club taking shape in Sour Lake.Big girls getting better and some kids coming back who can get up and down the floor and play really good "D".The coach says they won't be bad, that usually translates into a 20 win season.Coach Kellum will also have em ready to roll in Silsbee. 1.Silsbee-Good coach, lots of returning players. 2. HJ-See post above-ditto 3. Orangefield-Takes awhile for freshmen to adapt,it's a different world.
  24. Mine is on the slide but I can't touch a -47.Big Daddy is the man !!!!!!
  25. I hope he does well next year.I didn't see those kind of numbers last year but I didn't see him play but 4 times.I never saw him attempt a 3 during a game.If he can shoot the 3 and is 6'5"he will get some looks.
