  1. Heck the Kountze league will be 24-aa with Kountze,Warren,Buna,Hardin and Anahuac from what I'm hearing.
  2. 2 QUICK,You growin that stuff you smokin or buyin it off the street ??? ??? ???Hawk60 you better put lil stevie on your radar and move Fontenot way up your list. These 2 are gonna be legit when they get in HJ system.HJ will miss Donahoes ability to take over the scoring when a game is on the line but they will actually be a better defensive club. And I think there is an old adage about defenses winning championships.
  3. Does anyone know anything about Troup? Is it a 3 game series or 1 game playoff?I'm pulling for the Cougars but can't make a prediction without knowing anything about Troup.
  4. They will no doubt be well coached and Copeland will do well.If he moves to the point it may hurt his offensive production. If they had anyone 6'4" I didnt see him.The Oilers had a great run this year but I think a playoff spot next year will be extremely tough. If they play 500 ball the coach will be a coach of the year candidate.Their district will be very good next year with HD,Big Sandy and Spurger all returning lots of folks.
  5. I think Warren,Kountze and EC are gonna be a lot closer than most people think.Warren is a little deeper with returning players but Thomas will make EC the pre season favorite. While Kountze will be strong they are basically starting over.I think Deweyville will be a little ahead of Hardin simply because Hardin graduated heavy and Deweyville has Bland and Jackson to build around.
  6. Yep, everyone is tied as of right now ;)
  7. Don't leave out the Beck brothers from Woodville. They have been gone 3 or 4 years but both could flat bring it.Both signed pro deals and could throw in the 90's.
  8. Congrats guys!!!! How did these guts wind up on different teams??
  9. Every team in the area will eventually face what BC did, they lost their entire team to graduation and basically started over. They will be better next year.I would have to say Burrell and Jarvis from HJ will definitely be 2 of the best.HJ has a ton coming back.
  10. Very admirable actions for a group of young ladies to support their coach in that manner. These young ladies will remember Coach Ancelot long after the memories of the final scores have faded.Best of luck to both Coach A and the Cats.
  11. I guess thats my point.Buna still has one of the largest 2-a enrollments compared to much smaller schools in the same district.Warren,E/C and Deweyville all 3 have considerably less students than Buna.So I guess my question is why are 350 students at these 3 schools better basketball players than the 420 at Buna?It all comes down to how much emphasis the coaching staffs put on the sport. The good teams are the ones that follow the coaches system with the belief they will be successful and then work in the off season and summer to make it happen.I have witnessed this first hand at Warren over the past few years. We had some tremendous talent over the years and were lucky to win 8-10 games a year. Two very good coaches turned this program around and they have won 64 games in the last 3 years. If Buna commits to there baskeball program they will be successful,if they don't they will have a pretty solid football and Baseball team.Depending on the school sometimes thats what folks want.
  12. I'm backing 24aa but I think Hemphill will be ready due to a tougher district.I say Hemphill in 3.
  13. I'm pulling for Anahuac but Central Heights wins it in 2.They play in a lot tougher district so they should be ready for the playoffs.
  14. I would have to say Swinney and Parker(playing with a seperated shoulder) were bright spots on the Warrior club this year. These 2 haven't forgotten how to play ,just need some help on the mound.Warren was 1 pitcher away from being a pretty respectable club.Sad to see from a club that had a lot of promise.
  15. I'm not downing Marsh, just didn't see much on Hardins JV that could help.Warrens JV was up 30-2 before the coach called of the dogs and most of Warrens better sophs were on the varsity.I'm definitely not counting anyone out,the district will be extremely tough and well balanced next year.
  16. Kinney was a good pocket passer but didnt have much speed.McBee will be a threat to take off at any time.Kinney did a good job but he won't be as hard to replace as Esway. He made the wheels turn.If Morris and the soph kid keep there grades up both could help at the tailback spot.
  17. I saw where Winters struck out 21 against San Augustine last Thursday.Paul Price has also started pitching well for them. They aren't as strong as they have been but I believe both them and Central Heights would have the advantage against the cougars.I hope I'm wrong ,gotta support the 24-aa clubs.
  18. The kid from Hardin was the best one I saw.He didn't have a lot of help but he was solid.
  19. Hasn't Kountze already clinched the 3rd playoff spot? If so why would you make the game up?Warren won the 1st meeting 14-1 so you gotta like there chances.
  20. Now that was original.Did Buna's gene pool change when Jamie or Brewster left there.No.Most of the successful coaches in this area follow systems.Charles Briethupt,Fred Williams and James Gamble have shaped the recent history of successful basketball in SE Texas.Coach Sutherland assisted Charles and Joubert,Harrison and Davis all played for them.Sutherland has been successful at EC,Kountze and HJ.Joubert built a winner at Hardin(what have they done since he left)Harrison was successful at Buna and Davis worked wonders at Jasper.I forgot about Trey Watts who turned a perenial laughing stock around at Onalaska.I have seen first hand how good coaches consistantly inherit programs that aren't real strong and turn them into winners.I have nothing against the Buna coach but you put any of the above mentioned guys in that position and you have a competetive program immediately. That's not an opinion it's a fact look at their records.I know Buna has as many Johnny's and Joe's as Hardin or Onalaska.
  21. Actually Warren played EC pretty well last year despite losing Esway midway through the first quarter.Deweyviile will have a hard time replacing Williams just as Warren will replacing Esway.EC wins this if Tramain stays healthy.Don't overlook Kountze they were very young last year. The 2 thru 5 teams will be to close to call.
  22. Tyler Word and Scott Carnley advanced to the state tennis tournament with convincing wins on Weds. and Thursday. in Tyler. This is the second year in a row for a Warren doubles team to advance to state.Congrats guys and good luck in Austin.
  23. You can have the best Jimmy and Joes in the world and not win if the head man doesn't know or care about the sport he's coaching.Check the coaching history of the 3 schools you mentioned in the above post and a lot of the same names will keep popping up.I'll say it again good teams follow good coaches, that's no coincidence.Buna may not have been a power with Sutherland coaching them this year, but they would not have resembled the team they were under the present coach.
  24. Kid could play but you don't build programs around 1 kid.Coaches make high school programs successful and Buna hasn't really looked for a coach who could make them competetive lately.Check the really good coaches in this area and they have been successful wherever they are.Sutherland,Joubert and Carter are just a few examples.Boutte and Hargraves would be if they ever go anywhere else.If I were in Buna I would be trying to hire the young man from West Hardin. You would see a turnaround in just a few years.
  25. Overall I think Woodville has the better club but it would be close head to head.I think the district Woodville is in will have them better prepared for the playoffs.Central Heights,Woodville and Hemphill are all solid.I would pay to see Muckleroy vs Winters.Reese may be the best kept secret around.
