  1. Now that was original.Did Buna's gene pool change when Jamie or Brewster left there.No.Most of the successful coaches in this area follow systems.Charles Briethupt,Fred Williams and James Gamble have shaped the recent history of successful basketball in SE Texas.Coach Sutherland assisted Charles and Joubert,Harrison and Davis all played for them.Sutherland has been successful at EC,Kountze and HJ.Joubert built a winner at Hardin(what have they done since he left)Harrison was successful at Buna and Davis worked wonders at Jasper.I forgot about Trey Watts who turned a perenial laughing stock around at Onalaska.I have seen first hand how good coaches consistantly inherit programs that aren't real strong and turn them into winners.I have nothing against the Buna coach but you put any of the above mentioned guys in that position and you have a competetive program immediately. That's not an opinion it's a fact look at their records.I know Buna has as many Johnny's and Joe's as Hardin or Onalaska.
  2. Actually Warren played EC pretty well last year despite losing Esway midway through the first quarter.Deweyviile will have a hard time replacing Williams just as Warren will replacing Esway.EC wins this if Tramain stays healthy.Don't overlook Kountze they were very young last year. The 2 thru 5 teams will be to close to call.
  3. Tyler Word and Scott Carnley advanced to the state tennis tournament with convincing wins on Weds. and Thursday. in Tyler. This is the second year in a row for a Warren doubles team to advance to state.Congrats guys and good luck in Austin.
  4. You can have the best Jimmy and Joes in the world and not win if the head man doesn't know or care about the sport he's coaching.Check the coaching history of the 3 schools you mentioned in the above post and a lot of the same names will keep popping up.I'll say it again good teams follow good coaches, that's no coincidence.Buna may not have been a power with Sutherland coaching them this year, but they would not have resembled the team they were under the present coach.
  5. Kid could play but you don't build programs around 1 kid.Coaches make high school programs successful and Buna hasn't really looked for a coach who could make them competetive lately.Check the really good coaches in this area and they have been successful wherever they are.Sutherland,Joubert and Carter are just a few examples.Boutte and Hargraves would be if they ever go anywhere else.If I were in Buna I would be trying to hire the young man from West Hardin. You would see a turnaround in just a few years.
  6. Overall I think Woodville has the better club but it would be close head to head.I think the district Woodville is in will have them better prepared for the playoffs.Central Heights,Woodville and Hemphill are all solid.I would pay to see Muckleroy vs Winters.Reese may be the best kept secret around.
  7. Warren has some holes , but they usually hit the ball pretty well.Kid pitched a heck of a game.Congrats and good luck.
  8. Actually Buna's last really good club was in 3-a.They were seconds away from a trip to Austin in 2000(I think I have the year right).A turnover and a quick bucket by the other team in Huntsville and it has gone down hill from there. They simply haven't commited to hiring a solid coach since Brewster went to Chappel Hill. It's no coincidence good teams follow good coaches around.
  9. I thought Anahuac had clinched 2nd.It doesn't speak well for your district when your playoff teams are under 500.
  10. Travis Swanson from Warren. This kid is gonna be legit.
  11. I watched the Silsbee AAU club at Coopers tourney in Beaumont a couple of weeks ago.I know that probably isn't there complete team but what they had down there won't beat HJ.The Hawks will miss Donahoe but they will add some good players in Fontenot and Lil Steve to go along with Burrell,Bernard,Weldon,Payne and Sungren. All these kids are playing this summer I think so they will be ready to roll next year.
  12. I was a little surprised that Raymond wasn't used a little more this year.I knew after seeing him as a freshman last year he was gonna be a player.I look for EC,Warren and Kountze to have some really good games next year.Donte may start a little slow because I think he will play a big role on the football team next year.
  13. He will do a good job at LU.Give him a chance and LU will turn some heads.
  14. Bray didn't start either game against Warren. He is an excellent athelete no doubt.I don't think he has matured enough yet to lead the Lions.I think Jamesky will be there leader next year.Kountze will be a good club next year, but they won't be as dominant as they have been the past few years. Now Tramain is in a leauge of his own,EC will be tough if someone steps into Preston's role.
  15. Got any details? Will there be a 3-pt contest and who will be in it?
  16. I saw Liberty play 4 times this year and he started every game I saw.He was there best player in those 4 games,no one else was even close.
  17. I'm surprised you didn't ask for twins while you were at it ;)
  18. More like a short story ;) Stay tuned.
  19. Don't get me in trouble D-VILLE.I do a good job of that on my own ;D ;D.Buna did have a solid JV club and will be improved, just didn't see any dominating players. Buna-Excellent baseball team
  20. Thomas was probably the best player in the district this year. The guys from Kountze were very good but they had each other to pick them up when one had an off night.I never saw Tramain have an off night.Bray has a lot of potential but will have to mature as a player. There are several returning players in this district who had better stats. The sky is the limit for him if he works and develops but he's not there yet.Just a few here to keep an eye on. EC-Thomas(just needs to stay healthy)McDonald-(will be better than his brother)Solid' Kountze-Bray(must mature and lead)Had another guard that's gonna be real. Can't remember his name. Warren-Sims(needs to hit the weights,Had 140-3ptrs over the last 2 years and shot over 81% from the free throw line)Andrews-(also needs to hit the weights,Last year was actually his first year of varsity ball.Could have made a strong candidate for"Newcomer"looking at his stats.Nash(developing PG made huge strides last year) Deweyville-Bland(heart of this club, beautiful fall away jumper. If he develops a move to the basket he will be TOUGH.Gotta hit the books.Jackson(haven't seen him since he was a freshman but had ton of potential). Hardin-Marsh(Haven't seen him on any AAU clubs or summer teams,he would really help someone.Kid can play. Anahuac-Rivon(loads of potential, very quick to the hoop.If he develops his shot will be extremely hard to guard) I'm sure I've left some out but these are few that will a very good chance to lead their respective teams to a playoff spot next year.
  21. Definately!! Emillio Zamarrippa is his name!
  22. I would agree they are the top 2.Tramain is the real deal, there are several really good ones coming back in this district.
  23. No disrespect to the small school guys but Woodville is the best team on that list.
  24. No doubt but the topic was players (plural)
  25. No doubt both teams had the same weather to play in.I wasn't blaming the coach just thought it was odd to play the game with that strong of winds and rain.Just an observation most of the games on friday were rained out.Still as stated previously no advantage to either team cause they were both in it.Congrats to Anahuac that should put them in the playoffs.Hopefully the Warriors can regroup and win the last 2,that would put them at 500 for the year in district but a win over Buna will be tough to get.It will be interesting to see how focused the guys are the last 2 games of a tough season.
