Amen and just a fraction of the new coach at Texas' salary. The sky may be the limit. -
What do people think of Buna Coogs baseball team this year
whsalum replied to BCoogs06's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
From what I hear they are pretty solid, but the district as a whole is not real strong.Probably a couple of teams in 23aa that could give them trouble.Hope I'm wrong gotta back the 24aa bunch. -
Deweyville vs Warren predictions.
whsalum replied to D-villefan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
We finally agree ,just kidding,I would have done that from the get go.I haven't seen Trey pitch in awhile but I think he would have given them the best chance to win.If Brody's shoulder is OK he will do a great job behind the plate.Know disrespect to the young guys,it's just a tough role to fill any position at the varsity level as a freshman or sophomore. For some reason the team seems to play better defensively when Caleb is on the mound. They may want to look at Payden for next year or they could have the same problem again. -
His dad weighed about 150 when he graduated, but that WAS a long time ago ;)
-
Come on lets give credit where it's due.I am a loyal Warrior fan, but they beats 16-1 the first time. This one was close but the first one was a good ole fashion whoopin.Good luck guys the rest of the way.
-
I guess that's my point 7 quality atheletes in a 2-a school would help.Sims would have helped the pitching staff tremendously.I had the opportunity to catch him before the aau bball schedule came out.He has always had good control. He just never would turn it loose. His basketball coaches have changed that demeanor.Carnley is concentrating on tennis but he would have stayed on the baseball team had the playing time been there.Thats probably the only thing I would question in the coaches decision,Scott could have definitely helped him. However that's his call. The key to this club is plain and simple"pitching".Granger,Sims and Swinney in the rotation would have made a difference in the record.Would they have beat Buna?Probably not,but I sure wish we could have had a chance to see.Diego hasn't played in years but with the right coach his potential would be unreal.
-
That's what I said their key would be the weight room.Sims was in the gym and the weightroom everyday last summer. He is as hard a worker as you'll find.He was in the gym at 6am lots of mornings this year before basketball started. His challenge will be genetics, he takes protein works out everyday and has lost about 10 lbs since bball season.Kid eats like a horse.Andrews likes to lift weights and is stronger than he looks. These 2 guys will put in the work and they are both already excellent shooters. If they hit the weights tthe sky is the limit. They may need to hire Swanson as a trainer, that kid is stout.
-
I believe we have a misunderstanding about kids choosing not to play.I know in Sims' case it was a conflict with an AAU basketball schedule, not coaches, he simply wanted to work on his basketball and the schedule happened to conflict with practice and game dates. He did work out some while he was waiting on the basketball schedule and I can promise you he would have helped this pitching staff. He is throwing as hard now as anyone on this staff and has a very good breaking ball. Not sure why Granger didn't play but he would have been the #1 guy.Carnley is as solid a player as they had in the infield and has an exceptional bat,not sure why he left the team unless it was lack of playing time.Kendall Wright and Travis McBee as well as Brent Nash and Diego Huerta could have also filled some roles and added depth. That's 7 players who could have contributed and helped this club, thats a bus load in a 2a school. Not saying all these guys would have started but they would definitely filled some roles and helped the TEAM.That's what's lost here baseball is the ultimate team sport it's not about 9 superstars.I will agree totally about the discipline, this isn't little leauge, learn to do it right or move over for someone that can.The coach will be fine give him a chance. The young guys will get better the more they play and mature, the older ones are gonna have to step up until they do.Go Warriors and good luck Morgan and Willis.

best returning players in 24-2a
whsalum replied to texasbasketballfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No disrespect but Buna's JV coulda beat there varsity. For a school their size their basketball program has suffered since Brewster left.Their JV looked to be well coached and play very good fundamental basketball, their varsity was a completely different thing. -
Come on guys.I wouldn't exactly call getting beat by Sabine Pass,Burkeville,Anahuac,EC,Hardin,Memorial and Buna reaching new heights. There is a lot of baseball talent in Warren, unfortunately a lot of them aren't playing. To be honest about half the varsity club right now should be playing JV ball.Don't blame Coach Morgan for trying to manufacture runs,he doesn't have any choice. The bottom line is the Warriors have no depth on the mound.Swinney is solid as a starter,Wilson and Kelly will be good varsity pitchers its just not fair do expect it out of them as freshmen and sophomores.I've said this about football and basketball in years past"the best thing about freshmen and sophomores is they turn in to juniors and seniors".You don't build a program by changing coaches every year.Give the guy a chance.I also think someone with Willis pitching experience should be given control of the pitching staff. If you want a successful program hire the right guy and give him time to do the job.I still support the Warriors.Good luck guys.
-
I have seen every team in the district except Buna and to be honest I haven't seen a dominate pitcher yet.As a whole I think this district is down a little this year in pitching strength.Lots of kids who can throw strikes but not the one guy that stands out.

Deweyville vs Warren predictions.
whsalum replied to D-villefan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Warren will probably throw Swinney at EC on the 3rd.If they do Deweyville will be the favorite on Thursday. The Warriors will be in every game Caleb pitches, they need to start playing better defense behind the young pitchers.Seems like they are beat before the game starts when the 2 young kids start. -
EC will be outstanding as long as Tramain is there. They will have to replace some scoring however losing Preston and Leday,so they may be down a little from this year. They will still be one of the best in the region.Kountze is always good but they will be down this year from what they have been. You can't lose Busby,Powell,Haynes and Boykin and be as good. They will play pressure D and score off of it but Tramain handles that well.Warren lost Granger this year but I think they will put a better club on the floor next year than they did this year. All this had nothing to do with original question"Can Andrews and Sims lead this club".The answer to that is simply yes they can,how far we won't know until next year.Good luck to everyone in 24aa.
-
After watching the kids returning for HJ the past 2 weeks they are gonna be solid again.Burrell,Jarvis,Sungren,Fontenot,Payen,Weldon and the new kid from Liberty all can play. They will be really quick on the defensive side and will have a ton of shooters. If they get a big man this could be a repeat.
-
Sims and Andrews will definitely be 2 to build on.They were 2 main cogs this year, but Nash,McBee and Swiiney can also step up and score on any given night. Both Sims and Andrews biggest challenge will be in the weight room in the off season. They will both play alot in the summer and that will help.Sims is already playing and Andrews will be within the next few weeks. These are 2 very gifted shooters,Sims from behind the arc(he hit 60-3's)this year and from the free throw line(81.6%)while Andrews can score at will from around 15ft.The key is to get these guys the ball. They both averaged around 13 points a game last year but lots of nights they wouldn't shoot the ball but 6 or 8 times apiece.Blake Riley will help this year along with Robert Hulett and probably the guy they missed the most this year Travis Swanson is coming back .These guys are gonna be pretty solid.I almost forgot Brandon Young probably the most atheletic kid in the program, his key will be playing everytime the team goes somewhere.

I am in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.You need to change your screen name 25,you know less about baseball than you do basketball.Lamar beat Rice twice that season I believe. They also gave the mighty longhorns all they could handle in the regional tourney the previous year.If thats not a national recognized school I don't know what is.Sounds to me like you need to get on the Baltimore Orioles band wagon, they are about as average as they come. -

Somehow you switched sports.Lamar baseball is already a respected national club. They beat Rice for gods sake the year Rice won the national championship. The ladies program can compete with the right recruits,if that's not your goal you need to cut the lights out and forget it.While we do have some good girls players in this area they are not the ones that will take LU back to the elite status they are looking for.Beat the bushes and get the high school all americans, bring back some of the local girls after they have developed at the JUCO level and then you will start seeing results in the Montagne. -
He is good ball handler,no where near the shooter Jarvis is.Your right though he will add depth. Now the Fontenot kid is gonna be the real deal.

Hardin 15 Warren 6 Final/Friday Round (2)
whsalum replied to GoatHerder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
A lot of errors would be an understatement.Hardin played a good ball game. With the Warriors you never know which group will show up.Tonight it looked more like the JV.I knew they would have to hit the ball and tonight they never got untracked.Maybe the other squad will show up Tuesday.I hope so or a playoff will slip away. -
Hardin 15 Warren 6 Final/Friday Round (2)
whsalum replied to GoatHerder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I see where Hardin beat Deweyville 2-1 on Wednesday. While Swinney pitched a complete game for Warren on Tuesday so both clubs will probably go to their 2nd and 3rd pitchers.Warren will have to crush the ball to win this one. They are capable of doing that.If Parker is well enough to play that will help.I'll pick Warren in this one in another 12-10 battle.Go Warriors -
The best player on Liberty's team couldn't play for HJ this year.I hate to say it but after watching HJ 's returning kids Burrell,Jarvis,Weldon,Payne,Sungren and Fontenot he probably won't play much next year either. At least he will be on a better club, not much emphasis on basketball at Liberty.

This is exactly what you said"you got at least 10 girls around here that could help Lamar".I really like the 2 young ladies from Lumberton they are good high school players. They can go the JUCO route and probably contribute one day at a mid major. We are talking about building Lamar into a tourney class team.I have watched high school girls basketball in this area for more years than I care to admit and we have some good players in this area but we havent had 10 that could contribute at that level in the last 10 years must less this year.Fact is it takes players like Brandi McCain and Teresa Weatherspoon to build those type programs and they don't come along everyday. It will amaze you the way the Montagne will fill up when you put a quality program on the floor whethet they are local or not.Ancelot is a great coach but she would not have used 5 scholarships to get local players. She knows what it takes to win at that level.Give the new guy a chance and we'll see how he does.Set down this weekend and watch LSU and Tenn and you'll see how far he has to go.Go big red!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

After Coach Tidwell get's his club together he has educate the fans. It's clear you don't have a clue.10 local girls make a good high school team, not a D1 contender. -
24AA Predictions for next year.
whsalum replied to D-villefan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
AISD that was records from this year not predictions for next year.I hope Buna does well but I don't see it.Warren beat them this year by 15 in Buna and by 26 in Warren.EC and Kountze were harder on them than that.Buna is solid in baseball but there basketball club has a long way to go.
