This Kountze club is very thin, pretty small and very streaky. They’ll win some they probably shouldn’t when the 3 ball is falling and lose some they shouldn’t when it isn’t.They have a really good little guard but nowhere near the club they used to have. I had them competing with Anahuac for the last playoff spot but they may be on the outside looking in 🏀🏀🏀

I don’t know who it is but he’s correct. Both of these HJ playoff losses came in the first round after they lost their best player. I’m not very well informed on Lumberton basketball but I worked down there for many years. I know I started seeing the basketball courts fill up with kids since Coach Mitchell got there. That’s a good sign when you are trying to change the culture.

I think the older Connell kid is an assistant over there now. I’m pretty sure that was him on the bench earlier this year. If so that’s a good move.

Somewhere around 06. The first year Leland Hand was there. Beat Mart and eventually lost to a very good EC team. They were competitive for the next few years but had some really good teams in the same district. There’s just not much enthusiasm up there these days around the program.

I can remember when they were at least competitive. Won a district championship and made the playoffs a few years. I don’t think they play much up there anymore. I have seen em a few times this year. I think EC wins the seeding game this year against Orangefield and Buna finishes 3rd.

Kountze will probably be fighting for the 4th spot. They are young and small. The nights the long ball is falling they’ll be competitive when it’s not they’ll struggle to compete. Their biggest shortcoming is lack of depth. They are thin in that department. I don’t know what’s happened to Warren, It doesn’t look like they play much in the off season. OF/EC are the class of the district this year followed closely by Buna/Anahuac/Kountze

San Augustine won state in football a few years ago and almost immediately got rid of the coach. I don’t think it’s lack of athletes 🤷‍♂️

I was very impressed with Lufkin last week over at HJ’s tournament. #1 was almost perfect from behind the arc, the big kid on the block was very impressive and their 2 guards handled pressure really well.

I think you may be overly optimistic.

If Warren would have gotten #11 the ball down the stretch last week against Onalaska they win that game going away. He didn’t touch late and some questionable 3’s cost em. Not sure what grade he’s in but he’s pretty solid.

HF had a really solid JV group moving up but there’s a huge difference between playing at 5:30 and 7. I gotta think the Hawks are still the favorite in this district!!

Probably not any more common than anywhere else, Joub holds em accountable . Good for him, if stuff isn’t addressed it always comes back to haunt you.

I don’t think they have a lot of length on that pressure defense this year. They’ll have some games where they blow people out when the 3 ball is falling and some where teams will beat them that shouldn’t.
