  1. Looks like we got off track from the original question so here’s my take on it. Can Silsbee get back to state next year? They lost Adams, McCain, White, Tyler and a couple of more off a great team that didn’t make it to state as seniors so my answer is no. They have a great returning PG but lost to much of the supporting cast to win the region.
  2. My point exactly TxHoops, never have seen Coach Davis be “uppity”. Now if he’d said “intense” I could agree with that lol.
  3. No doubt upsets can happen on any night. That’s why I mention Bridge City, they had some kids that could shoot the ball pretty well. They will win some ball games as the rest of their game develops. Lumberton’s biggest asset I saw last year was their ability to control tempo which is a double edged sword when you play a team that walks it up and can shoot it.
  4. I don’t see anyone in the district beating Silsbee or HJ. I could be wrong but I would be shocked to see either of those with more than 1 district loss.
  5. I ain’t real sure how ya get “uppity” coaching high school hoops. I do know the HJ coach is as good as there is in southeast Texas making in game adjustments . I still think we’re looking at a real good series this year between Silsbee and HJ for the district crown. WOS always has the athletes to make games close and BC had a good young club to build on. LCM lost a helluva offensive player so they’re going to have to find some scoring to replace him.
  6. So are you picking Lumberton to finish ahead of HJ this year? The lines on senior night were long at Silsbee and HJ but both will be very solid this upcoming season . The battle for the district title should be a good one between the Tigers and the Hawks. I think Lumberton, WOS and BC will have a good battle for the last two spots.
  7. Silsbee definitely has a premiere player at the PG position if he returns. Tough to get to the state tournament out of this region especially when you lose two players of the caliber of Adams and McCain plus the rest of the seniors they lost.
  8. So are the HC at Hampshire and the assistant at Lumberton swapping seats or am I missing something ??
  9. Good lord, gonna be tough to make a good hire with that history.
  10. Now that will be a tough act to follow.
  11. So would this be considered a good career move ? Maybe it cuts down on the hours if Coach Pace doesn't have to coach Football or Track but Lumbertons underclass programs weren't real strong. I don't know what's going on at HF. I can remember not to many years ago they were respectable.
  12. I don't know the exact location of this proposed addition but its several miles out FM421 to the HJ boundary.
  13. 1600 acres on each side of FM421 just west of the park will fall entirely in the Lumberton ISD.
  14. Not a surprising move . I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been the Kirbyville asst. Coach Neece is very familiar with both I'm sure. There always seems to be a bunch of athletes in Anahuac, when they turn out they seem to be successful.
  15. I think the conversation about Lumberton / BC etc was for the 4th playoff spot.
  16. I like West Orange and Lumberton to battle it out with LCM for the 3rd and 4th spot. The Silsbee and HJ matchups should be fun to watch.
  17. What are we overlooking with BC? I saw them play Kountze early last season and they didn't look bad. They looked like they regressed as the season went on though. I wouldn't look for them to make the playoffs next year.
  18. Prayers sent to the family. Newton had lost an iconic coach. The world has lost an even better man. RIP sir!
  19. I would put Huffman on this list. They lost a solid player but have some good ones returning. Not sure how solid Lumberton is gonna be. I think they graduated some off their club last year.
  20. I didn't know Tracy was still in this area. Great baseball coach, I've known him since he was a kid ,
  21. Is this Tracy Franklin by any chance ??
  22. PNG had a solid team last year when they played in the HJ tourney and I agree this could be a very attractive job under the right circumstances. That being said the new head coach would have to have the same type of buy in from everyone that the other very successful sports down there get . I hope they land a good candidate.
  23. I was referring to days when sports that are normally practiced outdoors got rained indoors. I don't claim to be a expert on PNG basketball but I was told by a very reliable source that it wasn't uncommon for the varsity basketball program to have to share a gym with these sports. I think the description of this job earlier in this thread may keep it from being attractive. No pressure, no expectations ? No thanks, not many good young coaches will accept that.. I'll say it again, Coach Abel did a great job with the teams he put on the floor.
  24. Not sure there is enough emphasis on basketball at PNG for this to be a real attractive job. Very tough district and almost impossible to prepare a team to play when sharing the gym with multiple sports. I saw PNG several times this year and Coach Abel did a really good job.
  25. Pretty good ballgame it sounds like.
