Houston Yates 81 Hardin-Jefferson 69/FINAL
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Heckuva 1st half. No one in serious foul trouble. Tempo will be the key. -
HJ 16 Yates 15 end of 1st

Guard play wasn't the biggest factor last year on Silsbee beating Yates. The Yates big man spending over half the game on the bench in foul trouble and fouling out early in the 4th was the biggest factor in last years regional final. The Hawks are gritty and have played Silsbee twice, Pt Arthur Memorial, Lufkin, WB, and several more ranked clubs. I look for them to show up and play well.

Dallardsville Big Sandy 60 West Hardin 32/FINAL
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I know for a stretch Big Sandy was short a couple of players. If they got those kids back you can't look at records and previous matchups. The guy on the end of the bench at Big Sandy is as good as they get in high school hoops. Coaching is extremely important but you still gotta have the pieces on the floor, no better example of that than this years Kountze and Anahuac squads. Two great coaches with a shortage of players this year. -
Kicking back the recliner, this might get interesting Lol

Hardin-Jefferson 93 Livingston 52/FINAL

The Yates matchup should be a lot of fun to watch. Yates loves to shoot the long ball which can be a blessing or a curse. HJ is certainly battle tested. Playoff basketball, gotta love it!! -
The last 7.7 seconds Woodville had two fouls to give to put Buna in the bonus . They would have had to foul immediately on the inbound and then hoped for a missed free throw but it would have at least been an option. In the coaches defense he was calling for his team to do this but some of them were frustrated it appeared and didn't respond. My only question would have been use of timeouts. Overall it was a good ballgame to watch.

Lumberton 38 West Orange-Stark 35/FINAL

He's a solid player but let's not get carried away. Bush is definitely in the top 3 conversation along with Adams and McCain. -

I've seen a lot of basketball games where the 5 best athletes didn't win the game. In the Lumberton vs WOS matchup Lumberton had to control the tempo to win which they did. If the game had been a fast paced one I would have liked WOS chances. From what I saw this year if you put both these clubs through an athletic combine the Mustangs I think would score the highest. That's JMO, that and a dollar would buy you a cup of coffee. -
What time do they tip?

#1 Shelbyville (22-2A) vs #2 East Chambers (22-3A)

This will be a great game. Shelbyville has a really good club. The key to this game is depth. Advantage EC and I think they win by 10. I wish it was closer -
Hardin-Jefferson 77 Hamshire-Fannett 34/FINAL
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
HJ subbed 5 in 5 out at the 4 minute mark each quarter. It looked like it could have been whatever they wanted it to be. -

I didn't see that in this one. I can remember when HF was competitive. The score at the end of the first quarter was 30-2. They have a lot of kids on their teams and the Freshman group looks pretty decent. I hope they do get their program turned around. They did start a pretty young group so that should help. -

I agree with no shot clock 100% at the high school level. I guess it's just different strategies but if I e got one of the best offensive players in the district and the five best athletes on the floor I think I would have pressured the basketball and tried to get as many possessions as possible. -

I'm not a fan of a high school shot clock at all . I do know WOS has one of the best players in the district, I'd want the basketball in his hands as many times as possible in OT. -
Could there be an upset by Warren?

Could there be an upset by Warren?
whsalum replied to XXPLAYAXX's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I haven't seen Warren but twice this year and lord knows I can't get a handle on them. In the Woodville tournament they had all their players in a game against Woodville they had every chance to win and they lost by two. Against Hardin they were short handed and behind and won a game they should have lost. Then they get blown out against Kirbyville, I can't figure this group out. -
Silsbee 81 Hardin-Jefferson 55/FINAL
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
HJ has a pretty good looking Freshman group, not sure what they have in Junior High. That being said you don't often see ball players like Bush, Adams and McCain all come together in a school the size of Silsbee. It may be a long time before the Tigers put a trio like this together again. -

I like EC by 12 in this one. Twenty five games into the season you don't worry about injuries. EC. 76 Shelbyville 64 -
Silsbee 81 Hardin-Jefferson 55/FINAL
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The officials did not have any bearing on the outcome of this game but at times tonight they looked like they were in over their head . Silsbee is the real deal . -
No doubt about Warren, their inconsistency has been an issue all year. Not sure if Kirbyville improved over the season, I haven't seen them but I would have picked Warren unless they had some players missing.
-
I've always felt like Cleveland underachieved. Lots of talent over there.
-
I thought Hardin lost to Kirbyville by 2 , I stand corrected. AAW picked Warren by 3 on Tuesday.
-
The 32 to 6 reference was free throws attempted in the first game not total fouls. I havent seen Kirbyville play this year so I have no idea if Warren will win or lose that game. I do think that had Hardin prepared a little better schedule they would have beaten Kirbyville last week instead of losing by two and Warren on Tuesday instead of losing by six. Warren and Hardin are pretty evenly matched when all their players are on the floor. At best they are a fourth place team in this district. In my opinion, take it for what it's worth, there is no way this Hardin club should lose to Warren when They have a 4 point lead and Warrens 3 best players have either fouled out or are not playing with less than a minute remaining. I do know Hardins roster shows 5 seniors on their roster so I wouldn't think their confidence would be that shaky. I do have to give the Hardin kids credit, they were a very well behaved group , there was a good crowd and it was a exciting ballgame.
