  1. The article said he went to the playoffs 14 out of 18 years. There are a lot of schools that would take that record. I saw West Brook a couple of times last year and the talent was not there to make deep runs at the 6a level.
  2. Kelvin McKeyer was a pretty darn good football player so he probably made the right decision.
  3. Regardless of coaching or players it takes a break or two along the way to win a state championship at any level. A silly foul, a bad call or a turned ankle makes an average coach out a hall of famer. On the other hand if none of those occur a good coach with great players can win a title. Coach Boutte is a great coach no doubt about it but with all the fall out in BISD I'm surprised they can meet the salary needed to land such a proven coach at West Brook.
  4. Haven't gotten to see the Warriors this season, seems like the wheels fell off ??
  5. I think by the time next season rolls around the Hawks will be very capable of making a playoff run. They will be young no doubt but very athletic. The record this past season of the Freshman and JV teams I believe was 36-4. They will have 3 players returning on the varsity. I have always loved Parquets game and hope he makes a wise choice. If I had to rebuild with a young club I personally wouldn't mind having building blocks that were 36-4. Go Hawks !!
  6. I don't doubt they never moved, I was just curious what improved academically so much that convinced them to leave Beaumont schools
  7. I gotta ask, when did Silsbee's academics get so good that all these players wanted to enroll
  8. The Tigers had a really good D1 player a few yeas back that played for Lamar. I believe his name was Arline, solid player in college.
  9. That wouldn't surprise me. I would hate to see it not only for the high school game but also the kids making those choices. In spite of all the rumors out there not every AAU player will get a D1 scholarship, sad to see a kid give up such a big part of their youth banking on a dream that more times than not doesn't pan out.
  10. Coach Coleman did a good job with a young club at Memorial and definitely deserves to retain that job, he was a questionable call away from beating Ozen early in the season this year and seemed to have the kids buying in to what he is doing. I know Coach Boutte is a heck of a coach but it's hard to argue with what Coach English has done with programs at Vidor and Nederland. From what I've saw with the West Brook clubs the last few years it may be tougher to get them competitive in 6a than it was Nederland and Vidor in 5a. If that were the 2 choices West Brook had they couldn't lose in my opinion.
  11. Lord those Kountze clubs with Powell and Busby still give me nightmares LOL. How old is this young man and who will he play for in Beaumont ??
  12. They also have Zane Zbranek coming back who got a lot of playing time this year and can really shoot the ball . The young man that suffered the season ending football injury should be a huge addition in the paint . Throw in a freshman group that went 18-0 and a JV group that went 18-4 and I think by next seasons tip off they will be pretty good.
  13. The Tigers should be commended for having a great season and representing region 3 very well in San Antonio. I didn't realize they were losing 4 seniors. They will be very good again next year but it's hard to see them losing 4 off a 10 man rotation and getting better. All that being said they should be the early favorite in the region.
  14. Pressing , trapping defenses will win you a lot ballgames until you run up against a club with really good ball handling guards . If that is your only avenue to score , off turnovers , then you are dead in the water. In a possession type ball game there is no substitute for teams that know how to screen and move, spread the the floor and shoot !
  15. My point exactly Steve Nash and the played it all the way to some titles:)
  16. Glad to hear the young man is going to be OK.
  17. We throw great around way to much these days. They were very deep and very good.
  18. Syracuse is another club that has done pretty well with a matchup zone, I guess Jim doesn't know much about the game either.
  19. Oldschool2 I know you know a lot about the game but if you choose to play man against a team that has 10 players better than your best one you are in big trouble which is easily the case against most teams in Silsbee's district. There is a HUGE difference in knowing how to play man and having the personell to do it effectively. A matchup zone can cover up some weaknesses.
  20. That's a catch 22. The Tigers played a tough non district schedule and saw some good man defenses but that was 3 months ago. Most clubs in their district and in their region had to play zone or get run out of the gym. When you get to the state championship you play what got you there but you have to hit the shots.
  21. It's been a lot of fun watching Coach Fosters club the past several seasons. The have always handled themselves with character and class. Congrats on a fine season to both the Wildcats and there fans, who are also some of the best in Southeast Texas.
