Listened at the EC game today, great job as usual !!!

Congrats to the Bucs but you gotta tip your cap to Coach Whitmire. After losing a ton to graduation the Cougars were a really good club this year. Great season by both clubs !!

Some of Silsbee's best basketball teams

I think It was the 71 team that had the player who went on to play football for the Detroit lions. I believe it was Hunter. They were very good. -

Scored 6 or 8 in limited time. Great for the Hawks to be getting him back. -

way to go Bucs !! -
I agree with AAW, the young guy that coaches the JV does a great job. Coach Harley has done a tremendous job of keeping LCM competitive but the program won't miss a beat with Coach Jeffcoat.

That's a great shot and a really neat deal for the kid to be named MVP and have his team win a district championship. I know he was a really good player and well liked on his old team. I gotta ask however, what did he gain for himself? Has he signed a full D1 offer somewhere ? Just curious.

LOL I didn't say they won the state championship . I said they beat the press using this method. Two very good teams that season !! -

I saw Tramaine Thomas, Preston Guillory and Vince McDonald beat a very good Kountze team a few years back with The type game plan Moss Hill speaks of. Of course you don't get three like that everyday -

I don't know if Bernard will be back or not. He had a hip injury and then I believe got banged up worse in an auto accident. -

It's tough to win when you give the ball up 37 times against anyone. These clubs could very well meet again in a couple of weeks. Heck of an atmosphere tonight for both games. Feels like playoff time. -
Silsbee vs Hardin Jefferson Round 2 Friday Night

I'm not sure how you could read between the lines of the RCS Sports blog and come up with anything along the lines of Parquet never putting on an HJ uniform again ? While it's way to early to even think about next season I don't see any reason a young man of Parquets talent wouldn't want to lead what the Hawks have coming. The injury bug has been brutal to them this year losing Tilley for the season before it began and Bernard shortly after the start of it. When you return Bernard, Parquet, Zbranek and Tilley. A JV club that has lost 6 games in 2 years and a freshman group that just completed an 18-0 season the future is far from bleak. Once again the demise of the Hawks may be over exaggerated. -
HJ had a tentative game scheduled against Van Vleck on the pre season schedule. I don't know if it will still happen or not. I was surprised at their 4th place finish in that district.

Silsbee vs Hardin Jefferson Round 2 Friday Night

If the game stays in the 62-68 point range it will be a possession game. The key to this game will be rebounding. The Hawks will need to control the boards to slow the game down. Should be a fun game to watch. The HJ Freshman defeated LCM last night to end their season at 18-0 I believe. This group plays together and shares the basketball as well as any young group I've seen . Congrats to the HJ fish on a great season !! -

Joub was fun to watch in those days as a defender. He flat out played the "D" like it was supposed to be played. -

They also suited up 14 in Hampshire a couple of weeks ago, 7 on the varsity and 7 on the JV. I don't think any of the JV guys played last night. -
Settling the "greatest SE Texas coach" debate
whsalum replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
As someone who has attended more than my share of basketball tournaments over the past 50 years or so I have to say the HJ Marathon is second to none when it comes to not only the field it attracts buts also the coaches. Just this year you had local coaches from Big Sandy, Nederland, Kountze, Lufkin Hudson and HJ. Throw in teams from out of town that included Aransas Pass, Tatum and Brock and you have a more than impressive tournament. There may be some teams that don't enter this tourney next year but it will probably be more from a drop off of graduating talent than the way the event was ran. I have taken off work for years and visited this tournament and it has always been ran exceptionally well and will continue as such in the future. -

When I heard the GPA stat last night all I could say was WOW. They are a special group of young men, always a polite "yes sir" or "thank you sir". That's a lost trait in these days. The Moms and Dads should be proud !! -

They shouldn't have lost any to grades since Friday. Watching the warm ups before the last JV meeting it was sad to see what has happened to that program. Looks like there is no longer any emphasis on basketball in HF. If there isn't going to be any effort to put a competitive team on the floor they should discontinue the program.
