Hardin-Jefferson 97 Hamshire-Fannett 35/Final

They also suited up 14 in Hampshire a couple of weeks ago, 7 on the varsity and 7 on the JV. I don't think any of the JV guys played last night. -
Settling the "greatest SE Texas coach" debate
whsalum replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
As someone who has attended more than my share of basketball tournaments over the past 50 years or so I have to say the HJ Marathon is second to none when it comes to not only the field it attracts buts also the coaches. Just this year you had local coaches from Big Sandy, Nederland, Kountze, Lufkin Hudson and HJ. Throw in teams from out of town that included Aransas Pass, Tatum and Brock and you have a more than impressive tournament. There may be some teams that don't enter this tourney next year but it will probably be more from a drop off of graduating talent than the way the event was ran. I have taken off work for years and visited this tournament and it has always been ran exceptionally well and will continue as such in the future. -

When I heard the GPA stat last night all I could say was WOW. They are a special group of young men, always a polite "yes sir" or "thank you sir". That's a lost trait in these days. The Moms and Dads should be proud !! -

H-F @ H-J: Only varisty game tonight!

They shouldn't have lost any to grades since Friday. Watching the warm ups before the last JV meeting it was sad to see what has happened to that program. Looks like there is no longer any emphasis on basketball in HF. If there isn't going to be any effort to put a competitive team on the floor they should discontinue the program. -

Surely there are some Science students at Ozen, Central and West Brook that can hoop it up and transfer to Harmony. After watching what happened with Triple A a few years back the rule has merit regardless of which way it is used. -
Starting next season Silsbee vs HJ
whsalum replied to Pepper Brooks's topic in High School Boys Basketball
HJ has played Huffman routinely over the last few years in non district games. The UIL made a good decision not moving Silsbee north into the Jasper district. They would have had to furnish more than officials. -
All you have to do is set up a playoff preview in the Montagne Center before the playoffs and find out .I know one thing, pressure doesn't seem to bother the Wildcats and they shoot the ball better than the Tigers. The Tigers biggest advantage would be on the boards. Coach Foster usually looks for a tough team to warm his club up after a not so tough district schedule. I would buy a ticket to this one no doubt. Big Sandy will graduate all but one of their varsity so next year will be a little bit of a rebuilding year.

Both the new basketball districts look weak now. I hate to see the rivalry end as well. -

I went over there and watched Jasper that year and they didn't even resemble the club they had been in the past. I think they surprised some folks in the playoffs that year if my memory serves me . -

Clay Davis and Kevin Foster are two of those coaches that can take your 5 and beat you. Both are excellent coaches and would be top 5 anywhere they went. -

A good coach can take his 5 and beat your 5. A great coach can take your 5 and beat you. There are a lot of good coaches around who are blessed with a gym full of great players . In a school the size if Big Sandy you don't get the opportunity to be continually blessed with great players. Coach Foster develops players year in and year out who learn their role and perform it to perfection . He often gets overlooked because of the size of the school. The great active coach list is heavily favored according to which team you watch every Tuesday and Friday. Just a few that come to mind that always get overlooked are Bryan Whitmire from Buna and the young guy from Little Cypress. I never got to see Cotton Robinson teams but the accomplisments speak for themselves. I did get a good close look at Mr Gamble and Mr Williams and they are in rare air. -
After reading his book Charles could probably still recite the stats Attention to detail was unreal !!

A lot of kids start shooting them these days before they are physically strong enough which leads to terrible form that is never corrected. God forbid they make a few early or you have created a monster. As someone else stated earlier, put your fingers in the basket every time.

Silsbee 72 Hardin-Jefferson 62/Final
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I don't believe I've ever seen the Hawks go 4/16 from behind the arc. The game I felt was officiated very well but the fouls on 2nd and 3rd chance points on the boards was the difference for the Tigers and resulted in them shooting 27 FT's to 6 for the Hawks. From where I was sitting a different defensive look in the 2nd half helped the Hawks tremendously. Roberts has turned his game up tremendously over the last few weeks. Good ballgame tonight . -

Coach Harley has a really good assistant so that transition should be a smooth one. The LCM does a tremendous job with the kids they have and will probably get the 3rd or 4th spot. -

If it's only going to affect them for a couple of weeks it can't be that bad. -
Hamshire didn't have a freshman team and I think only 7 on their JV and Varsity clubs. The numbers are really down over there this year.

I don't know what any of them scored but Travis had the hot hand early. Michael took the ball to the hole early and didn't get the fouls called he probably should have. He did what he always does, he went to work and scored the basketball . He would probably be the first to tell you he has shot the 3 ball better than he did the other night. He took what the defense gave him which is the mark of a good player. Twenty one is a good night in anyone's book. -

The foul count looks to be in favor of Silsbee 26-21, judging by the type game each team plays LCM may have a concern about the officiating as well. -
