I saw those guys more than I wanted to LOL.There was no doubt with that talent they would be in Austin. The talent level overall in the region may well be down this year but I couldn't compare the club I saw play West Brook last week to the traditional Kountze teams of years past.
-
That's why I said I didn't know anything about the other 2a powers in this region. Some of the teams the Lions played in the regional rounds last year were not very good. If Kountze had a post presence similar to Busby and Powell from years past I would no doubt make them the favorites to win the title but they don't have anyone near that type of player in the paint. Can they make a deep run with Arnold and Stafford? Absolutely . Will Duane get everything they have to give? You bet !! Would it help to have a banger on the block ?? I would think so but that's just me !!

I have seen several issues over the years with official books and score keepers. Unfortunately if they are not corrected immediately the argument falls on deaf ears. I have seen 2 occasions already this year but it wasn't game affecting. -
Why isn't Hardin Jefferson ranked in TABC???
whsalum replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Just gonna throw this out there, it's not unusual for 2 or even 3 teams in the same district to be ranked in the top 25. The question about the guard tandems will work themselves out on the hard wood starting next week I believe Kountze and HJ match up next week and could go head to head next weekend as well in the HJ Marathon. HJ is 2-2 going in to the Aransas Pass tournament with wins against Nederland and Huffman and losses to Big Sandy and Central. One things for sure they are getting better every week . I don't think they would be overly concerned about a ranking in week 2. -
They are definitely 2 solid players but West Brook has no perimeter defense at all. Arnold will be a game changer with his ability to penetrate and dish. I don't know a lot about any other 2a powers in this region but Kountze is lacking the bigger guys on the block they have had in the past. It's hard to make it to the state tournament with any post presence and even harder to win it.

I may be wrong but I think Kountze and EC will be pretty even by the time district rolls around. I don't think anyone else in this district will be strong enough to compete. I know the West Brook game was Kountze's first game and they didn't have Arnold but I have never seen a Kountze club struggle with a team like West Brook in the past. The starters will really have to be in shape because the bench wasn't real deep. I think they dressed 9 but not all of them played. Has Woodville changed coaches ?

Beaumont Ozen 58 Beaumont West Brook 32/Final

I was wondering the same thing TopDawg52. In the loss to Kountze they came out of a time out with 4 seconds left in a tie game and dribbled the clock out without a shot attempt, I don't know how you come out of a timeout and not know the game situation ?? -
Arnold is going to get his, kid can create off the dribble and shoot the 3, the 2 guard has unbelievable range and can also take it to the basket. He has a little trouble with longer defenders. I didn't see much inside presence which makes it a lot easier the further in to the season you go. Kountze will beat most people with pressure but teams that don't turn it over in bunches will stay close.

If Graylon is playing the Lions will be able to play with anyone in the field !!
-
One thing I've learned over the past many years, never predict high school basketball When you're talking about 15-16 year old kids, a made three here or a missed FT there can make you look really foolish !!

Not a good shooting night for the Hawks, started out ice cold and never recovered !! -

I have to agree about the phantom travel call against Memorial, that was the difference in the ball game. Ozen didn't have an answer for Memorials #22 at that point. If the ball would have gotten to him on the block the game would have been over. No excuse to foul the 3 point shooter at the buzzer. -

Basketball is and always will be a game of runs. Fun game to watch !! -
I believe Buna lost their entire starting 5. Kountze will compete with EC for the district if Arnold doesn't play, if he does they are the favorite.
-
LOL Then you might have to find a baseball coach also

Dallardsville Big Sandy 62 Hardin-Jefferson 51/Final
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
A really fun game to watch. Big Sandy jumped out to 9-0 lead and the senior dominated club did what it took to pull out the win.Great crowd watching some really good basketball. Sure am glad the season has started !! -
Grayland was injured early in the season last year and the Lions didn't resemble the team they were with him in the line up. I believe that will be 3 starters gone off last years state playoff club. Duane will get everything they have to offer but the battle with EC just tightened up.The shooting guard they have is MONEY but his job will be a lot tougher without Arnold to create for him.Kountze will be a good playoff club just not as good without the best PG in the area.
-
I don't claim to know anything about the Kountze coaching situation this year or in the future. Kountze usually has very strong underclass programs and last year that was not the case. They also have Travis Williams teaching there this year and I have to believe he will be on a bench somewhere in SETX next year. Duane has done a great job at Kountze and probably would be on the top of most basketball list.. That's a long way of saying I have no idea what will happen next year at Kountze
-
I think this is right on the money. The basketball job is going to look a lot different after Graylon leaves town.
-
They seem to play the same system year in and year out with the kids buying in but there is no substitute for experience. were the kids you mentioned for Kountze starters last year? The Lions didn't sub much last year in the games I watched them.Arnold and the shooting guard will keep them in the hunt.
-
I know Ozen and Central are ranked 2nd and 3rd n the pre season poll but Yates looks to be very good this season. The region on the 5A level is going to be tough to advance out of.
-
I haven't seen the pools but I can guarantee Brock will play smart, very fundamental basketball. If they have any size this year they will control the tempo and won't beat themselves. They are a lot of fun to watch. There will be some very contrasting styles of play in this tournament. The teams with the deepest benches will have the edge in the long run with the number of games they play.
-
If fear is the driving factor it must be a delayed fear. The Hawks play both Big Sandy and Nederland before the tourney. I haven't seen the pool bracket yet, where can this be found ?
