  1. Basketball 2012 has a pretty good baseball pedigree. I know the Franklin boy will be taught to pitch pretty well because his dad has been around the game forever. That being said if you're gonna throw mid 80"s you better have movement AND location or you'll be in for a long day.
  2. I have attended these games for years, leaving work early and standing in line to get tickets and I don't live in either community. Over the years I have sat on each side just to get a feel for how each side feels about it's club. That being said it lost it's luster in Ford park from a fan standpoint.I think the better solution is pregame ticket sales with an allotment for the visiting school. As far as the parking goes there was some nut in a jacked up brown ford at Ford park that felt the need to take up 3 SPOTS so I'm not sure the parking lot will be big enough :)
  3. Warren will be solid this year , no doubt about it with an experienced player returning at every spot. They hit well, field very well and have tons of speed. The missing ingredient may be the one that allowed Woodville to get their regional appearances and the state title in 05 and that's DOMINANT pitching. The Beck brothers gave Woodville a legitimate mid 90's hurler and you just don't see that often at the 2-a level. Warren also has a very good young coach so they should be fun to watch.
  4. He hasn't been at it long enough to be on this list but the kid at WOS will turn some heads before it's over. Also English works wonders with the talent he has.
  5. Last years game at Silsbee was standing room only for a VERY intense JV boys game.I've been in every type gym in the world and had never seen that. You just can't replace that type feeling in high school hoops.
  6. There is nothing like the feel of the crowd at a good high school ballgame. For the last several years you couldn't talk to the person next to you at either Silsbee or HJ. Last night you didn't even have to raise your voice.I don't like to get to the gym at 5 but I think it's worth the trade off /JMO
  7. Read my post Soulja. I didn't say the outcome would have been different I said the arena hurt the game. I don't have a dog in this fight from either side but the atmosphere was dead compared to years past in both Silsbee and Sour Lake.I have seen a ton of basketball in my lifetime and this was far from a good basketball game. The game tightened up in the end but when you look at shooting percentages, free throw percentages and turnovers it wasn't a real well played game. Both clubs can play much better and I believe they will in the rematch.
  8. I thought the arena hurt the game last night. You couldn't feel the same atmosphere that the game usually brings.
  9. I gotta agree with Dickie V about the arena taking away from the game.I know it's a pain to stand in line and have folks turned away at the gate but this game had no emotion at all.The biggest difference I saw last night in the play of the two team was HJ playing a relatively soft 2-3 zone.I know the coaches know their personell better than anyone and I look forward to seeing the adjustments they make in round 2.
  10. That's the beauty of high school basketball, even the good clubs are subject to poor shooting at times.I know this may sound like blasphemy but even Yates ( GASP) could have an off night shooting the ball. Just in case no one has noticed WOS who has always had a stable full of horses has a very good young coach running the show these days.
  11. I know the scoring didn't have anything to do with coaching, Travis does a great job. I know HYCA is a good club with a sensational recruit but 27 points isn't gonna win ya many.It just seems to me like the area big schools struggle to put points on the board.
  12. You're not gonna win many scoring 27 points a game.Just curious how a school the size of Memorial with that collection of athletes can only score 27 points. I've seen the successful small school systems put up big numbers in this area but our bigger schools seem to struggle putting points on the board.
  13. Call me old fashioned but I always at least like to see them play a district game before I vote them as MVP.
  14. Duane will have them playing ball in a few weeks, no need for concern in either camp
  15. HJ always plays team basketball and pressures the ball.It won't be any different this year.
  16. Warren will probably be pretty quiet until baseball season starts :)
  17. Folks give the Warren kids a little credit, they hung in there for years when they were getting pounded and never quit. Glad to see them get some district wins.Congrats guys gotta feel good walking out of Eagle Stadium with a W.
  18. Congrats to the Warriors on the win. These kids have shown a lot of heart over some pretty tough seasons the last few years.Good to see them on the winning sideline.
  19. Actually had the opportunity to play against Terry in the old Broaddus gym,Guy was in a league of his own.
  20. Ditto, winner gets the 3rd spot and I think it will be the Wac.Woodville has a really good club but there will be 1 really good one left outta the playoff hunt.
  21. I've known the Kountze coach since he was playing PeeWee ball and he'll have his club ready.I think Woodville has played the tougher schedule so far with both clubs beating Shepherd (there only common opponent by 8).That being said I like Woodvlle in this one. Woodville-24 Kountze- 20
  22. No one wants to win worse than the coach. That being said the 4th string running back at a 1-a school probably shouldn't see a lot of action.I don't know if I ever saw a 1-a club with a 4th string.
  23. This won't come as a surprise but Newton has one of the best 2-a programs in the state and has had for years.Warren on the other hand has struggled with only a handful of playoff appearances in their history.Neither statement has anything to do with class.Newton did what it should do, play to the last whistle with the kids that are on the field. The kids from Warren should also be commended. They have gone 0-20 over the past 2 seasons but have managed to win 3 ballgames this year and continue to play hard whatever the score.Success isn't always measured on the same scale.Good luck to both clubs the rest of the way.
  24. Tall and lanky works great in high school ball and shooting is a bonus at any level however at the D1 level they recruit by position and even the 2's an 3's are stout. It doesn't take long to see their are no players on the opposite side that you can just dominate physically.
  25. SLC doesn't lose many.Unreal to spend that kinda money on a high school stadium.
