I have seen them called a violation if contact is not made.It's a completely different call once contact is made and intent is ALWAYS an interpretation.

You are right on CATMAN.The district doesn't even compare with what it has been over the last 4 or 5 years.Evadale is a well coached club,Coach Williams gets everything they have to offer.They have the same problems that all small schools have and that's some holes that will create matchup nightmares once the playoffs start.I think great is an overstatement to say the least.

When they are at full strength I still would pick them as the best 1-a school locally.I knew they would miss Daniel's scoring but I think the miss his leadership the most.

Any club would miss Travis, he's a great coach.I'll be glad to see him return to the bench where he belongs.

Homecoming????? That's almost unfair to have a 3-a school that doesn't play football.

I gotta start paying closer attention LOL.

This will really hurt Spurgers chances at the district crown, Goodrich is alway tough to beat at their place.Is Spurger healthy or do they miss Blankenship this bad? I looked for them to really be strong this year.

Folks the sky isn't falling, you're dealing with 15-16 and 17 year old kids coming off a HUGE game last week.Both HJ and Silsbee will get back to normal.It's impossible for any coaching staff to keep these kids focused 24/7.Look on the bright side, the Tigers played a sub par game and still WON by 7.

When did we start a basketball pick em,I haven't seen that  :(

Warren has gone from doormat to competitive in district (although not on the level of EC or Hardin) Just sayin [/quote]The girls program at Warren has been decent for the past few years however not on the same level as their softball or volleyball programs.If you look at their record they are about where they have been for the last 2 or 3 years.The young lady that coaches them may well turn in to a good varsity coach but it's way to early in her career to put a stamp on her credentials.To say she has turned the program around from a doormat is inaccurate.The lady that coached the club last year has a state title on her resume and knew how to really teach the game.There are a lot of seniors on this club so this should be one of their better clubs in recent years.I hope they do develope and wish them well.

[/quote]Probably not a lot of ex-refs commenting on here, just a lot of folks with an opinion.I am an ex ref but I'm not evaluating just voicing an opinion.I started officiating years ago because I would stop on the way home and watch a football coach and a bus driver call a game and didn't think the kids were getting a fair shake.There are some really good officials in this area.If there is one thing they used to emphasize in all the chapters it was getting in shape before the season started.That still should be a mandate, you need to be able to get up and down the floor to call a varsity ball game.

I gotta question that one, the teams that had Powell,Busby,Walker, Brey etc were about as complete as they get.They had speed and quickness on the press and size to go with it.Tough to pass over that press.

If your gonna lift it needs to be after you've done your shooting.Nothing can affect a shooter like tired arms or legs.

A technical should be a call of last resort.The only one I ever had to call was against a seventh grade girl,if I would have held my whistle her dad would have bailed me out in another few seconds.

The officiating is simply a numbers game, there isn't a conspiracy against any one club.When I first started officiating you had to complete your testing and go thru your floor work under close supervision.Now there just isn't enough officials to do this so you have some thrown into varsity games before they are ready. Mike Simpson is as good at training young officials as anyone could be, unfortunately there aren't alot of mentors like they used to be.You also have several guys calling games now that don't get into any kind of shape before the season starts.I do have one pet peeve that I saw in the HJ/Silsbee girls game last week,it was inbounding a dead ball.The crew which was an experienced one, constantly let the girls with the ball move on the sideline and the base line,on made baskets you can run the baseline on dead ball spots this is a turnover.Overall the officiating I've seen this year has been pretty good.

I predicted an HJ win but I didn't think it would be this lopsided.I knew the HJ group had a ton of potential when they get it together.Congrats girls.

Hudson has one kid that is the real deal.He is gonna get his but the key is not to let him get everybody else involved.I don't believe the pope could beat Hudson at home.

I've seen alot of these clubs play and I would give the advantage to 24aa.While I think the district is down from what it has been the top 2 clubs,Ktz and EC are still better than their counterparts to the north.I think that when you line these 2 districts up Kountze and EC would be clear favorites and then you would have a dog fight for the 3rd spot.Anahuac is improving every time I see them but don't have quite the horses they had last year.CH may play a ball control type game but I don't think they would hold either of the top 2 clubs down south to 40 points.

The big guys for Evadale play very well but they do seem to tire against the pressure defenses.I was just pointing out something that will give them trouble as they play better clubs.

[/quote]I gotta disagree with this one.Kountze and EC are very close this year but I don't see anyone in the north district playing with those 2.Anahuac is improving everyday and would be in the thick of the north district race.No Look Huntington must have got it figured out by 1974,they were in our district that year and they were as good as any club I ever played against.

At HJ I gotta take the Lady Hawks.When they play up to their potential they are pretty dawg gone good.They are really young so the big game atmosphere should be fun.

You missed my point Abraham,I wasn't questioning Coach Williams because I said I didn't know his personnell.I was speaking in general terms.If I had 3 post players I would play 2 and have one coming off the bench to keep them all fresh.I think if you can put more guards on the floor against the pressure defenses you have a better chance of being successful.I'm sure Coach Williams puts the best club on the floor that he has, any coach will do that. I am also sure that a quick ,pressure defense will give it trouble.I didn't know we were going to have a basketball test and I don't claim to be a coach but I have been around this game for a very,very long time.
