**KOUNTZE @ EVADALE Broadcast**/Kountze wins 56-51!
whsalum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Evadale did a good job of passing the ball to beat the press all night.#21 had the best game I've seen him play.Probably the worst game I've seen Kountze play this season however they did turn up the pressure the last 3 possessions to pull out the win.Don't beat the PG up for the late T/O, thats what happens when you work for 4 quarters to beat the press,it wears you down.Hate to see the big kid hurt for Evadale but they do handle the pressure better with just 2 big guys on the floor.Kountze does miss Lin and someone is gonna have to step up and lead this club,it should be McDaniel but that's still to be seen.Overall a good ball game to watch and Coach Williams had as good a gameplan as you can draw up against the Lions. -
I wasn't just talking about scoring however having 3 guys that combine for 29 pts a game is not huge by any stretch. They seemed to use #32 to give the ball to against the press and let him decide where to attack the press. He is a big stout kid and can demand attention making the defense collapse and thus getting the shooter open looks. In my opinion Evadale is a better club with 2 of the bigs on the floor and the 3rd coming off the bench. That gives them a little more flexibility against pressure defense.Evadale will do very well against most of the local 1-a clubs but I'm afraid they don't match up well at all with Kountze. After watching them I do make them the favorite to win their district.

I wouldn't put much stock in the win over Spurger minus Whittacre.Evadale has a nice inside out game with #32 and #3.The games that I've seen them play #32 has been the key to what they do from beating the pressure to kicking the ball out to the shooter. The blonde headed post player and #21 are good role players. They have a very good coach but have asome holes that will limit how far they advance in the post season.
-
Whittacre is every bit a twenty point difference if not more.Everything they do this year starts with him.McGallion is a very good ballplayer but without Whittacre it severely limits what they can do offensivley. Net I was very impressed with #3 for the Rebels,if they get him an open look he will drain it.
-
Wha's wrong with Whittacre,Spurger won't be anywhere near their best without him.
-
And yes I have seen Evadale play several times this season, they have a very good club.I was just offering my analysis by what I have seen so far this season.I thought that's what you asked for.

Spurger -66 Evadale-60
I dont know if you have seen Evadale this year, but there is no way you can say that Spurger has the edge in the paint.. Evadale has a 6'7'' and 2 6'4 players when Spurger only has Whitaker and 6'2'' Now Spurger has got a large advantage at the point guard. But I will take Evadale with 7 play makers against Spurgers 2. But we will find all this out in about two and a half hours..
I was talking about a single matchup in the paint.#32 for Evadale against Whittacre,if the Evadale player can hold his own the game favors the rebels if he has to have help in the form of a double team the advantage switches to Spurger immediately. The 6'7" kid isn't a force in the paint. No disrespect to him but he is a little light to bang on the boards. The PG match up favors McGallion and the shooting match up favors #3 for the rebels.Coaching is close but there is no substitute for experience.Overall I give the Pirates a slight edge because they are at home, where they are hard to beat.

Kountze vs Goodrich -- Kountze Wins 96-57

It ain't always the size of the dog in the fight,it's the size of the fight in the dog.I watched Cayuga a couple of times this past week and they could darn sure challenge any of the local schools. You're exactly right about the Lions, the only local 3-a clubs that play with them locally are HJ,Silsbee and Cleveland and they have already played 2 of those. No disrespect to Kountze's club this year but I don't think they have Austin potential like some of the clubs in recent years.Duane will schedule what he needs to get them ready and he will get all they have to give. -
I'm all for second chances. If they wanted one they could continue working and get it next year if they were underclassmen. Some times you have to take responsibility and learn from your mistakes.Unfortunately if these kids were seniors they should be done.

I was imprssed with Gonzales,he was alot better than I thought he was.I don't know alot of Kountzes younger players but Lin got hurt in their second game and I don't think McDaniel had a real good tourney. What did Kountze finish in the tourney place and record??
What list? Are you talking about my personal list? If so, that's how I personally see it. Let's see your list.
I'll have to a little more homework to put my top 10 together.I was commenting on you list because the Gonzales kid caught my eye at HJ this weekend.I had heard of him before but never knew he was good as he is.I think Zay has all the tools but has been associated with Walker and Bray in the past and hasn't developed into the kind of player alot folks say he is.One thing for sure DC is the areas best this season.
There is no reason to sugar coat it. I have been with this group of boys sense they were 8 and they all know that I tell it like I see it. Their point guard that they have played sense they were 8 desided that it was more important to be a daddy than play ball his Sr year, what a waist :(
Come on True, you weren't with this group of boys last year.Give the kid a break, once he became a daddy that was the most important thing.Sometimes folks make mistakes, it's good to see them take responsibilty when they do. -

We all get on the officials when we aren't satisfied with their work so I gotta give em props for their work at the HJ marathon.I didn't have anyone playing so I went and checked out several games strictly as a fan.The crew that did the Evadale/Cayuga game was excellent(Mike Simpson,Bubba Bridges and a gentleman I didn't know). As a whole I thought all the crews I watched were very good and deserve to know it.Good jobs guys.

You cant compare scores in the paper or game to game situations. You can get a little info this way but not as much as you would think.
Ah, heres a person that knows basketball. I'll find me a match to stop a spot up shooter in high school basketball anyday. Getting Nash started up again ;)
Amen, but if you don't have a good true PG you have to adapt. I am here and ready to start. I would disagree with you because "some people" forget that basketball is a team game where all five players have a role (at least for the better teams) in making things happen. Some defender might be capable of stopping a spot up shooter one on one, but a decent coach will get that shooter shots regardless of how good the particular defender is. It really isnt that difficult to force "that defender" to cover someone else via screen/multiple screens. Additionally, any spot up shooter who is going to be "shut down" by the defender will have that defender in his face. Even the slowest of the slow that has any kind of basketball intellect has a response to that type of defensive effort. If that defender holds his spot up shooting opponent to no shots taken or very few taken, the spot up shooter has simply provided some of his teammates with additional opportunities they might otherwise not have had.
I knew you would come out sooner. But you make valid points. Lets just hope the "other teammates can score.
IF none of the teammates can score, then your "team" has little chance.
Give me a true point guard with the ability to score (shoot & drive), pass the ball, he'lll make his weaker teammates look good ;)
-

There are many ways to beat pressure on the ball if you don't have a true PG.I can guarantee the Rebels have a coach who can teach them to do it.The biggest problem I saw with the Rebs in the game against Cayuga was the kid who should have been taking the ball at the mid court area.
