1. I think DC has all the tools to become a good mid major player. He is definitely on the short list in this area. That being said if you look at the list of the top 25 players in our corner of the state over the last several years not many even play at the mid major level. There are a ton of good players in Houston and the Dallas area. Some things working in his favor are good size, shoots the ball well from mid-range and handles the ball well.I could see him playing the 3 spot in a couple of years in the Southland conference.
2. Not sure where this one was played but both of these teams are TOUGH to beat at home.Sounded like a dandy.
3. Forney is a huge is a huge piece of the Nederland puzzle but they will be very well coached and playing at home so that evens things up.I'm taking HJ by 3. HJ-83 Ned-80
4. You could tell Bosha is gonna be something special by watching friday night. If the Hawks get Anderson back the district race is gonna be a dandy.Watching the HJ staff friday night looking down the bench for combinations, due to foul trouble, was like working a rubics cube. They desrve a lot of credit for that win.I was really surprised how good a game it was this early in the season.
5. The key to playing Kountze tough is not a big man, it's having a PG who can push the ball in the middle of the floor and not turn it over. On the other end it's about having defenders RELEASE when their guards do.HJ was shorthanded on depth on friday night due to injury and and foul trouble and that allowed Kountze to score alot of easy baskets off the break.A big man is gonna have to really run the floor well to be a factor against them. After watching them a bunch this summer and on friday I think HJ and Silsbee are probably the only 2 local small clubs that stay within 15 of them.
6. Lin scored several on the break but he also had several 3 "s.He played a good overall ballgame.
7.
Question for anyone who attended the game. Was Zay McDaniel's ineffectiveness tonight a result of H-J's defense? If not, what went wrong with him? 7 points?? :o :o
No.He looked fired up during the pregame and introductions but soon disappeared.HJ went up big in the second quarter and he was non factor after that. The young guns continued to play and if he can keep his chin up could really help them.Linn was by far the best player for the Lions tonight.
8. The mercy rule should go something like this :If you don't wanna get beat, get better.End of story !!!!
9.
Yea I agree zay is prolly tha best
I 've heard that for years but haven't seen it.Larimaine was the best player on the floor for the Lions tonight.Kountze is pretty young so Zay needs to step up.He got frustrated tonight and was a non factor for a long stretch in the middle of the game.
10. Kountze will be fine in district. They need McDaniel to step up.Larmaine played a great ballgame tonight but Zay kinda disappeared.Kountze is pretty small so that may be a problem.Bosha is gonna be a special player and Gus did a good job, Persohn was slowed by foul trouble and Prudhome was money when they needed him.Overall it was a great ball game for an early season game. The difference in this one was HJ'S ability to penetrate and pass the ball. That's a lost art but they done it well tonight.
11. I heard the resident broadcaster informing an official on Monday night that 20  seconds ran off the clock during a dead ball situation in a 50 point game  ;D ;D ;D
12. With all the recent discussion about building the new multi-million dollar basketball complex in Beaumont I have to ask, where are the fans?Since my kids have gone off to college I have been able to look at the schedule the last couple of years and check out the best looking games.Last year on trips to Silsbee,HJ,Kountze,Spurger and EC the places were packed. The atmosphere was great. Now I realize it's early season but last nights crowd at West Brook was terrible.Often when the cameras scan the gym at WB,Central and even Ozan the crowds just don't compare. Not sure how they are gonna justify a 10 million dollar gym when their putting 100 people in the seats.

14. If they played Kountze close without Anderson, Gus and Sutherland that's not a good sign for the Lions  ;D
15. I don't know if Warren has picked up any upper classman since the summer but all they had this summer were freshman and sophs. If they don't pick up some upper classman they will struggle early.May not be a real good gauge of what kinda club West Hardin will have. One thing I know, Coach Henry will get all they have to offer.
16. CHAD IS BACK AT THE POINT !!!!!!!!!!MUST BE BASKETBALL SEASON !!!!!
17. The logic that someone who would not start on a 3-a club and could play at a 1-a school and go to college and play is beyond me.Some of your very best local players are playing D111 ball in college.A kid that could not start on a 3-a club isn't going to play college ball.

I still stick to my guns about being a super star.Just because you transfer to a smaller school doesn't make you a super star.Your skill level will determine how much recognition you get.You may get more playing time at a small school but if you don't have the skills you will just be an average player. How many times should you let a kid transfer for more playing time? There are no guarantees he is going to get anymore playing time, what then? The UIL does a good job of attempting to keep folks honest which is what they are there to do.If a player has the skill to play college ball he will get some opportunities, the size of the opportunity will be directly related to the level of skill.
wh, if you decide to run for office, I will vote for you.....
I'm gonna take that as a compliment LOL, but I'm not sure it would be these days :)
19. True the more you talk the more I realize how little you know about college basketball or basketball in general.First of all the McGallion kid has a very good skill set and would be able to play at the 3a level. That being said he has a few things that would hurt him playing any college ball, the biggest being size. You seem to think Jr colleges are for less talented players which is not true, it usually is for players who have issues becoming eligible or various parts of their game they need to work on.There were some very good high school players in the area last year and not many were mid major players much less D1 prospects. If you have players transferring for exposure in their senior season they probably aren't gonna be playing college ball.

21. TrueBlue your interpretation of UIL rules never ceases to amaze me. Most schools in Southeast Texas allow transfers. Some charge a fee for kids that don't live in the district. Here's where you continue to miss the boat, the kids can not be cleared to play any sport unless they live in the district or they are released by their old school. They can file a waiver with the UIL if they aren't released but very few of these are granted. One more misconception is that kids that can't play at Memorial can become stars at a small school. If a kid can play, he can play ,if he can't he will be average no matter where he goes.Sabine Pass will face the same challenges this year as any school that graduates 3 or 4 of their best players and that is replacing points.I think they will be in the same district as they have been in and I don't see them beating Evadale or BS this year. They could play HD and WH pretty close for 3rd.JMO
22. Just heard that John Elliott, a standout football player from Warren Texas passed away today.John was a standout for the University Texas in the 60's and was a key member of the Super Bowl Champion New York Jets led by Joe Namath. While not being a big guy by todays standards John was a pro bowl caliber player on the defensive line for the Jets.He was a nice guy that will be missed.RIP Big John.
23. DC Stallworth is not a great big kid but he can play above the rim.I think he will be the best player in the area this season and could carry the Tigers a long way in the playoffs.
