I only see one HD thread in the most recent. Is someone not getting the attention they think they deserve or just a HD hater?
I've noticed that everyone who says that HD is not the football gods' gift to East Texas are haters. Can't wait to see who fires up the grease and has to cook up a little crow! How far will your school go in the playoffs?
JesseJames replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Everyone in 1A Region 3 seems to be caught up in the San Augustine dropping to to 1A hoopla. They are extremely talented and will no doubt be a handful for anyone who plays them, and Alto is always strong, and then you have Mart with another Cosby in the backfield waiting in the playoffs. That all being said, West Sabine is a sleeper team that should not be overlooked out of this region. They have one of the best QB's in 1A that nobody seemingly has heard of in Desmond Lacey and an enormous amount of playoff-tested seniors coming back. The young defense which, admittedly, took some lumps last year is a year older and more experienced in the defensive scheme. Overlook them at your own risk, that's all I'm saying.
SA was pretty rough in 2A last year. Losing only three starters and a drop to 1A. Doesn't sound like hoopla to me. Looking forward to the 10/26 matchup! Those next door neighbor games are the most fun to watch! GO WOLVES !!!!!!!!! -

JesseJames replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
After following some of these guys around this summer during 7on7, I am very excited to see what happens this fall. These guys have grown so much, mentally and physically, since the end of school that it is unbelievable. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching their success this summer! Coach Hubbard - San Augustine. In the short time he's been there the program has improved by leaps and bounds. Not only is he an awesome football coach, he is an excellent role model and mentor for these kids. We are blessed to have him. GO WOLVES !!!!!!!!!

The SA 7on7 team played in an NFL sponsored high school player development tournament in Dallas today. The came out victorious over a Dallas all-star team made up of players from several different select teams from the Dallas area. The final score in this match was 41-30. With this win, the Wolves have earned the right to represent the Dallas Cowboys in a national tournament that will be held in Indianapolis in early July. Each NFL team will have a high school team representing them in the tournament. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!

San Augustine 7on7 Results - Marshall Tourney
JesseJames replied to mmccary's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't agree with you. Although it may not be a direct relationship, the skills that these players develop during 7 on 7 can add a dimension to their game in the fall on both sides of the ball. In my opinion these tournaments are the perfect place for teams to work on their passing games. You have to also admit that when a 1A school can go nose to nose with a team like Gilmer and beat teams like Carthage, Crockett, Marshall, and Daingerfield, it has to be a huge confidence builder. On another note, SA 7 on 7 team will travel to Dallas this weekend to compete in a NFL player development tournament and will be representing the East Texas area. Good Luck and safe travels.
I don't think SA wanted to go deep in the playoffs.....they get ready for the roll the basktballs out around this time of year. What good is it to beat CC if you just get wasted in your first round playoff game?
...they get ready for roll the basktballs, really? Please tell me your not an English teacher. Keep your heads up boys, you've got nothing to be ashamed of. You brought home a district title, made it to the second round of the playoffs, and finished two places higher in district than anyone predicted you would. Oh yeah, and completely dominated 7on7 this summer. Not bad for the first year under a new program! GO WOLVES !!!!!!!!! -
Final stats on the Magical Season of Justin Twine

Sorry, but that's true.
False, no comparison. Not even close.
My $$$$ is on Montana Quirante. He should be 20-4A MVP and 1st team all district on both offense and defense. Twine is good but can he say that???
He will be able to say more than that. We will see when the awards come out later this year. He is only a sophmore but he will be getting first team honors and a lot more (likely all state) in football, baseball and track also. Your $$$ can be on whoever you want it to be on but Twine is the best athlete in the region and every coach that has had to find a solution for him will agree.
On one more note, this kid wasn't on the defensive side of the ball near as much as he was during his freshman year in which he made a lot of saving tackles and big plays using his outstanding speed playing safety and linebacker! This kid could have easily gotten defensive honors too!!! He and his brother both contributed a major part of the offense from game to game!
I'll have to disagree with you there. He is an extremely talented athlete, but he is not a defensive player. He does not like contact at all! -
What's it hurting? Just curious..
Exactly, if UIL didn't have it set up this way, football season would be over alot sooner and we wouldn't have anything to do! lol!! Besides, The year that SA won state, we went in as a 3rd place team. Just because you didn't win district doesn't mean you can't compete with them. I don't know about yall but I don't look forward to the end of the season. GO WOLVES !!!!!!!!!

Leaps and bounds worse!
I totally agree!! But Hemphill thought getting rid folks was going to change that!
I do not think that you can have a offense that good, and a defense that bad.... especially if a lot of the kids play both ways.
Some athletes are just not defensive players. You have to be willing to put the hat on someone. The speed that Hemphill exhibits on the offensive side of the ball can't be seen at all on the defensive side. You have to like contact and I didn't see that friday night from Hemphills D. They will have enough stops this week to beat the pirates.

Why can't the same athletes that are successful on offense be successful on defense? It's a 2a school. Surely their best athletes are playing on both sides of the ball? So what's the deal?
Hemphill is the greatest example of a one man team in the history of high school football. They have one athlete that is light years beyond anyone in the region.
I dont see him staying in Hemphill....already a bunch of rumors going around about him moving to Lufkin... He for sure has the talent to excel at the position. Yea, it's a shame that a young man with that much talent isn't even going to see the playoffs. The Hornets have this one in another High scoring affair.
