  3. Well it is finally set: 21-3A Champion Orangefield-BYE 22-3A Champion Tarkington-BYE Tuesday Night @ East Chambers HS 5:00 pm Hardin Jefferson (21-3A Runner Up) vs Huffman (22-3A Third place team) 7:00 pm Liberty (22-3A Runner Up) vs Silsbee (21-3A Third place team) BEST OF LUCK 22-3A !!!!
  4. Huffman +10 (possible 15) Shepherd +5 (possible 15) Cleveland -15 (possible 15) If Shepherd beats Liberty and Cleveland they go to the playoffs. If Shepherd beats Liberty and loses to Cleveland by 10+ points Cleveland goes to playoffs. Huffman beats Tarkington and Splendora, Huffman goes to the playoffs. Huffman, Cleveland, and Shepherd all control their own destiny for two playoff spots.
  5. 1. Huffman (most returners and was 22-3A runner up last year) 2. Splendora (Great Coach who gets her kids to play HARD) 3. Liberty (graduated a GREAT player and several role palyers) 4. Shepherd (Will surprise some people) 5. Coldspring (Got some talent and move ins) 6. Cleveland (Good Coach, but talent seems to disappear at HS level) 7. Tarkington (Will keep the Volleyball nets up all year) This is all just my opinion, but I go to a lot of games.

  14. Built Ford Tough Player of the Week WEEK 6 UPDATE With half of the 2012 season now in the books, the action really begins to heat up.  Everyone at Ford Motor Company and each of our 234 great Texas Ford Dealers are looking forward to a great week of district play.  We've been delighted to honor six great student-athletes each week, young men who have excelled on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.  We're especially grateful to the many coaches who have nominated outstanding players for the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week award.  With that in mind, here are the winners for Week 5, as selected by the BFT Advisory Board: Class 5-A: Dimitri Flowers, WR/RB, San Antonio Churchill, led the Chargers (then 1-4) back from the brink with an electrifying all-around performance.  The son of former Arizona State star Erik Flowers, Dimitri rushed for 193 yards and four TDs (1, 16, 19, and 58) and caught seven balls for 153 yards and two more scores.  Though football is certainly in his future, he's also a top-ranked centerfielder who's being watched closely by MLB.  Class 4-A: Dru Smith, QB, Sherman, got right into the spirit of perhaps Texas' oldest rivalry (Sherman-Dennison in the Battle of the Axe).  A transfer from Mesquite Horn last winter, Smith completed 20 of 25 passes for an amazing 407 yards and three TDs and ran for another score as the Bearcats took control on the road, 42-21.  A baseball player and track athlete, he also owns a 3.5 GPA.  He's active in both FCA and the FCCLA Club, which is involved in various community projects. Class 3-A: Preston Townley, QB, Huffman Hargrave, missed the halftime pep-talk last week.  He was on the field, finishing second in the Homecoming King competition.  It's the only thing he lost all night.  He threw for 390 yards and eight TDs (42, 22, 19, 29, 20, 15, 17, and 77), tying for second in the all-time Texas record book.  He also ran for 67 yards and another TD in the Falcons 62-13 drubbing of archrival Liberty.  The 3.27 GPA student is active in many church activities as well as Hargrave's theater group. Class 2-A: Ozzie Buckner, QB, Frankston, took over as the Indians' QB when the starter went down early in game 1-and hasn't looked back.  In a 48-8 win over Union Grove last week, the sophomore hit on 8 of 12 passes for 207 yards and two TDs and rushed nine times for 167 yards and two more (92 and 42). "Ozzie simply gets better every week," says Coach Matt Nally.  A 3.07 student in honors courses, he's also the starting point guard in basketball and plays baseball. He's active with FCA and his church youth group. Class 1-A: Blake Hutchins, RB/LB/K, Cross Plains, is the catalyst of a football revival (0 wins in '10, 3 wins in '11, 3 already in '12) for the Buffaloes.  In a 27-12 district win at Roscoe (the team's first road win in three years), the 6-1, 200-pounder scored all of Cross Plains' points, rushing 33 times for 230 yards and four TDs and kicking three extra points.  Blake is all-district in football, basketball, and baseball and a key to the Buffaloes' relay teams.  He owns a 3.8 GPA (top 10%) and is heavily involved in FFA. Private Schools: Kade Clayton, RB, Tyler Grace Community, playing virtually one handed because of a wrist injury, carried the ball only 15 times in a 48-7 win over Cedar Hill Trinity Christian but still managed 325 yards (nearly 22 yards per carry) and five TDs.  He also caught a pass for another score.  Kade is even more impressive on the track as the reigning state champ in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.  A 3.4 student, he's active in FCA, the Salvation Army Food Bank, and volunteers at the Azelway Boys Ranch. Will one of your players qualify for a BFT Player of the Week award this week?  The nominating process starts with you, your coaches, and your fans.  If one of your great student-athletes excels this week-or any week this season, be sure to nominate him no later than the following Monday at 11 am.  Just go to www.playeroftheweek.com and complete the on-line nomination form.  Nominating a player is easy.  But if you have a problem submitting your nomination, please notify us by e-mail at [email protected]. Then every Saturday morning at 8:30 am (it re-airs on Wednesday, October 17 at 5:30 pm and again on Thursday, October 18 at 7 am), be sure to tune in to the Built Ford Tough High School Player of the Week TV show on Fox Sports Southwest to get the latest updates on the award winners.  We're looking forward to hearing from you and your fans at www.playeroftheweek.com.  Perhaps we'll be seeing you at an award presentation at your school this year.
