1. Clearly more about the media markets than the institutions: DFW / Denver / Seattle / San Antonio, etc.
 2.
Yes, I read it on katfans this morning and here is my reply. I heard the "where are they now" sigment last night with Billy Tubbs and Bo Brown as I was leaving work. It is funny how two different people can hear the same thing and get a different message. IMO, Billy Tubbs was not dogging the SLC. He did state in his opinion it was a bad decision to drop football and leave the Sun Belt conference. I did not hear him say one bad word about the SLC. He stated in his opinion it would have been easier to go FBS if we never left the Sun Belt and that is true. (See South Alabama) He also mentioned the old rivalries with La Tech, North Texas, SW Louisiana (now ULL) and Arkansas State. Then he stated he thought bringing back football and all the excitement around SE Texas will run over into fan attendance in other sports at Lamar. Asking a honest question here; would you think it would be a mistake to go back to DII for financial reasons it that were to happen at SHSU? (I know it will not happen at SHSU I'm just using a hypothetical.) I say yes it would be a huge mistake and it was a mistake for Lamar to leave the Sun Belt for those reasons. Just my opinion. Coach Tubbs mentioned he and a few other administrators including Dr. Simmons are looking at all situations and monitoring conference realignment at Lamar. We have to get better in our athletic department, fielding better teams including football. Plus, we have to raise money for a move to a FBS conference. I believe I've read on here that you guys are monitoring the situation with conference realignment too. No one knows what the SLC will be if you lose 2 Texas schools and a couple from Louisiana due to budget issues. For TexasTerror, he did resign as AD and is Special Assistant/Consultant to the President. He helped bring back football and has made several great hires as in Coach Tidwell now AD/WBB HC, the strenght and conditioning coach Scott Reeves, Brian White men's golf, Dewi Hardman women's soccer, Ron Wesbrooks director of tennis operations, Justin Gibert volleyball, Trey Clark men's and women's cross country, media relations and other athletic administrative positions. If Coach Roc has a breakthrough season like I heard Coach Tidwell state he believed was going to happen after watching them practice in the off season program you can add him to the list a good hires by Coach Tubbs. Billy Tubbs has served Lamar University for a total of 25 years. He was involved in the winning of eight conference championships as a coach, and since he returned to the school as athletics director in 2002, Lamar teams have accounted for 20 Southland Conference championships in eight different sports.
This is how I heard it too, but thanks for posting it on anygivensaturday.com
Aren't you an SHSU fan? as in the negative LU posts on Katfans.com: JJWooten Hero Member ***** Posts: 1280 on Katfans.com?   Re: Lamar AD Looking to Leave SLC « Reply #18 on: October 16, 2010, 08:48:13 PM »    Billy Tubbs on the halftime show for the USA game trashed the SLC pretty hard. He talked about how bad of a decision it was for Lamar to leave the Sunbelt for the Southland, and that's the reason why Lamar has struggled so much for the past two decades. He basically explained that his role as "advisor to the president" is to help them get out of the SLC if the opportunity comes up
 5.
It was originally reported that Lamar would play Hawaii in 2012, Oklahoma State in 2013 and Texas A&M in 2014.  Now it looks like Lamar will not be playing Hawaii in 2012, but Texas A&M instead.  If that's true then I hope both Hall and Johnson are playing for Lamar because they'll be needed for that game. I also read that Central Arkansas backed out of their game next year against UH so they could play Arkansas State, but they must find a team to replace them.  I wonder if Lamar may try to take that game with UH but not sure if there's a game already scheduled for that date.  That game with UH would pay Lamar about $275K.
The UH game would be a 'cheap travel' game, but the payout may not be inline with what LU needs from their OOC FBS games each year - that's why OSU and TAMU are on the schedule. I wouldn't put too much stock in the games that are scheduled beyond 2012 with Big 12 teams staying. The conference shakeups will cause a lot of scheduling issues and may create new opportunities or eliminate existing ones. Will be interesting to see how the future schedules play out.

For what? We have had no football for 21 years, now we are back with a great FCS! facility and some good local talent. We can recruit and take athletes from Mcneese and SFA and other schools and in a few years have an opportunity to establish a solid program at the FCS level. We could maybe become like Montana, Appalachian St,and Richmond and have a annually ranked team. In doing so we could have continued local excitement, success, and a full stadium, and compete for a real FCS championship settled on the field.I love texas football at all levels and understand somewhat the desire to play at a higher level , but to what end?  Your dreaming if you think lamar could ever recruit well enough to challenge any big schools. What is the purpose of playing on a FCS level and bringing big schools in to play here.yeah that would be great  TCU 68 Lamar 3,   Texas ATM 51 lamar 10,   Uof H 65 lamar 16  baylor 47  lamar 13, yeah that would be great fun. Hey look at us , look what we did, we went FCS and brought in big name schools for all to see, and in our first three years we went 5-31-0. We beat 2 FBS teams and UL monroe, North tx, and Ark state. wow! now the area fans we could have made happy being a solid FCS team now do not care to support a losing program. Complaints begin, meetings are held, football is to expensive and BOOM right back to 1989. No football. Be glad we are back let us prosper at this level in the SLC. Go Big RED. ;D
this is the smartest post that ive seen so far concerning Lamar football... 8)

Amen
 10. Thanks for sharing Terror. Good article.

"Lastmar to thee we're singing, voices heard on low...."
Or maybe this chant  "We're number 256, we're number 256...." [Hidden Content]
263 now...getting worse
The reason there is lack of support is because the Triangle residents identify with their hometown high school football team. It is not just the Lamar football team that suffered... Any one remember the Beaumont Golden Gators......
BINGO. All the more need to recruit local talent, which Woodard has done a good job with so far.
I do think the # of students living at Lamar has drastically increased since I was there in the late 80's. This can only help the attendance at the football games.
Hasn't helped for Basketball yet. I am very dissapointed in the LU student sections or lack thereof. LU gets 3K-4K at every game of which maybe 200 are students in the student section. SHSU gets 2K-3K every game of which over half are students. If the students would show up (it's free for gods sake) over 1000 each night, that place would be rockin' to the tune of 5K-6K and I promise more wins. I've been there when we have big crowds and it gets loud and the team feeds off of it (BYU, Tx Tech, Both W's)
Doesn't look like the problem is winning at home....their road record s-u-c-k-s.
Duh, college at the end of Dean College is a give away. Ha my fault
Dean College is a 2-year institution. He should not have to red-shirt. Just like Blinn College is 2-yr, Lone Star College is 2-yr, etc. The word college does not mean 4-yr.
 14.
Here's a few annoying things about the LU athletics website: The last entry to the Construction Blog was made on September 16th, almost 4 months ago! The Facilities and Directions link doesn't include the football stadium or the new soccer stadium. North Texas created a website just for their new stadium with drawings and other nice features.  Lamar has done nothing to show off what the renovated stadium will look like.  How will that draw recruits? The Photo Galleries link hasn't been updated with stadium renovations since the summer. Can't they recruit some students to help update the website?
Amen...
