FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference and MYTX 18, My Texas Television, based in Tyler, Texas, have agreed on the station serving as the exclusive East Texas affiliate for the new Southland Conference Television Network, league and station officials announced Tuesday. “We are thrilled to announce the affiliate agreement with MYTX 18, which covers all of the East Texas television market, an area that’s very important to the Southland Conference,†league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “We appreciate the enthusiastic interest shown by the station’s ownership and management, and we’re excited that viewers in East Texas will get the opportunity to view this unique and innovative television offering.†MYTX 18 serves the Tyler-Longview-Lufkin-Nacogdoches Designated Market Area (DMA), and is affiliated with local CBS affiliate KYTX (Ch. 19). MYTX 18 is carried on cable systems in more than 50 communities in the region, which is also home to Southland member institution Stephen F. Austin State University. Also, Direct TV subscribers in the area can see the station’s programming on channel 18. The station will carry all 36 telecasts of the league’s in-house television offering, including nine football games, 16 basketball games and a monthly magazine show, “Inside the Southland Conference,†which debuts in September. More information on the Southland Network is available at www.southland.org. “The Southland Conference has a large following throughout East Texas,†said John Gaston, Vice President/General Manager of KYTX/MYTX. “We are very excited to offer this sports programming to our area. We feel that with the alumni support and fan enthusiasm, the programming will be very well received.†The Southland expects to announce numerous other affiliate agreements in the coming weeks.

I'm not taking up for anyone because I have no affiliation. Do background on the this owner, I did. He bought out two other goof offs that owed $. There's about 100 other minor league sports in McAllen/Edinburg area including a NBAD-League team. That's like two hockey teams in beaumont. One AHL and the other ECHL. Personally I think the arena is way big for a minor league sport but if they are willing to pay, so be it. I know they have already moved in to the WILDCATTER offices.

Three spots will be open, with Ozen taking the 1st of 4... They will have a legit shot but have to learn to beat teams on the road like Vidor, etc.

Jimmy Hicks of RCS Sports adds: After watching Brandon Jennings sign for a nice wad of cash and get even more cheese with a sneaker deal, you can’t tell me that J’Covan Brown hasn’t atleast been thinking about possibly exploring a professional career overseas (if the proper opportunity presents itself). Dozens of whispers have been floating abroad questioning if / when Brown will get academically approved through the NCAA Clearinghouse. Well, one thing’s for certain, Brown is proving he has enough talent to produce very impressive numbers against players who have years of NBA and Major D1 experience. Brown is the starting pg for Team Black in the Nike Pro City Summer Basketball League, coached by Ricky Johnson (brother of Rashard Lewis) who also roamed the sidelines with the Rashard Lewis Southeast Texas Elite this past summer. Last week Brown scored 27pts in a duel against PSP All Stars (feat. fellow amateur celebrity Tack Minor, who netted a game high 34pts). I’m wishing and hoping that Brown indeed received the required written approval / release from the University of Texas compliance officer which enables him to participate in this NCAA approved league which is also populated by professional players currently under contract.

I wrote a big story this week about the new team that will come out Friday. The only problem I see is the new league they will be in...Not, the CBA, but the new league has had it fair share of problems.
