Straight Up: 9-4 (.692) Spread: 8-5 (.615) NL=no line Sat., Nov. 21 Livingston 91, @ Liberty 52 Liv (1-1) Magnolia Dawg House Invitational Ozen 62, Magnolia 56 O (1-3) McDonald's Texas Invintational Division II Gold Bracket Cinco Ranch 36, Crosby 35 Crosby (3-3) Fri., Nov. 20 Hardin-Jefferson 76, @ Kountze 73 H: 13-21-17-25, 76 K: 17-18-20-18, 18 FTS HJ: 11-35 (.314) K: 10-19 (.526) H (1-0): Jacoby Turner 37 K (1-1): Troy Whisenant 19, Roman Walker 18 1Q: Back & forth, back & forth. Biggest highlight was Roman Walker dunking on someone while getting fouled. H-J PG Garrett Gustafson picked up 2 fouls. Ktz ends 1Q up 17-13. 2Q: Devin Bray dunks it home to make it 21-15 @ 6:27 mark but is called for a tech (hanging on the rim). Ktz struggled from the outside this qtr. Bray sat down with 5:00 remaining due to foul trouble then H-J began attacking the paint. Jacoby Turner got a nice dunk & H-J took a 32-31 lead with 1:04 remaining, their first since the 1Q when it was 11-9. H-J shot 3-8 from FT while Ktz went 0-2. Roman Walker dunked as time expired to give the Lions a 35-34 lead. 3Q: H-J took control early in the 3rd & went up 40-37 with 6:31 remaining. Ktz hit their 1st 3 of the game at the 5:50 mark to tie things up. Gustafson & Phillip Ricossa picked up 4 PFs but Turner took over with layup after layup. Ktz went on a run making things 53-47 with 2:09 left but Gustafson & Ricossa returned. Gustafson picked up his 5th foul & fouled out with 1:50 remaining. Ktz led 55-51 at the end of 3. 4Q: Ktz built a 59-51 lead with 6:09 remaining & it looked as if they would take control but the Lions couldn't make a jump shot & wouldn't drive to the hole. H-J went on a 10-0 run to take a 64-59 lead with 3:39 remaining. H-J missed more FTs down the stretch than I've had kidney stones, which kept Ktz around. With 9.7 left up 75-73, Ktz calls a TO & didn't have one giving them a tech. More missed FTs allowed Kountze a half-court shot, which skimmed the bottom of the net. H-J outscored Ktz 25-18 in the qtr. Notes: 1st things 1st. It was a great game. Hats off to the kids. Officiating wasn't good on either side. On time in the 2nd qtr, one team had 6 players on the court but none of the 3 officials caught it. Bookkeeping error was being talked about some because several of us counted 6 fouls for a player, but that's on the bookkeeper. H-J's turner was the player of the game. H-J struggled from the outside just as much as Ktz did & I stopped counting turnovers for both teams when the total was 25. Ktz shot from the outside too much. If they would have taken the ball to the rack instead of settling for 3s or mid rangers, this would have been a different outcome but none-the-less, GREAT GAME! 15-15 end 1 25-25 half -
Tuesday, Nov. 17 @ PA Memorial 75, Ozen 56 O (0-1): 18-13-5-16, 56 P (1-0): 13-18-25-14, 75 1st: Ozen SR G DeCarlos Frank was not suited up. PAM took the early 2-0 lead but missed several shots in the paint. Ozen them went on 12-3 run & finished out the qtr with a 5 pt lead. At one time, Ozen had 5 underclassmen on the court & I enjoyed the play of sophomore David Green III, which is the son of former SETX head coach & current FB Hightower HC David Green. Both teams arleady in the bonus. 2nd: Ozen built a 7 pt lead early but then the pace picked up & both teams decided to run-n-gun. Ozen hit 14-17 from FT line in 1st half while PAM struggled going 5-14. 3rd: The difference maker. PAM came out with different traps & outscored Ozen 25-6 in the qtr thanks in large to 11 Ozen turnovers. Panthers held to just 1 FG in the 3rd. 4th: Ozen had no 'umph' in their step & PAM kept the Panthers @ bay. WO-S big man Darius Davis was ineffective due to foul trouble the entire game. Vidor had trouble with the WO-S press but made less mistakes than their counterparts down the stretch.
